Chapter 23

17:01, 25 December 2024

No POV

New Genosha holds a lot of hope, for its people and the future, but above that it holds power. Some of the most powerful mutants live here, those who can warp reality, time, and nature. All are under the watchful eye of Emma, Destiny, and Estelle. Despite the equal power of the council, they would never truly be the inner circle of Mother Mutant.

Emma holds a small research team that helps track the strongest mutants on Earth. Watching over them in case they cause a greater threat that none of them could handle. They usually get offered into a school in New Genosha to teach them how to control it, allowing them to return home in between.

Destiny seeks out the danger of the people, finding what could and what will be. All to whisper in the ear of Estelle and Emma, all to keep things in line. Despite what the world will think, these three were the ones on top, the ones who saw and felt everything through the corners of the mutant race.

The only thing that continues to slip through their fingers is the Anti-Mutant Terrorist. But they didn't worry, that's what heroes were for, that's what the X-Men is for.

Even now, Scott's team infiltrated an anti-Mutant base, freeing those who were kidnapped. Of course, Anti-Mutant members spout their rhetoric, and soon to be locked up. Where they are sent for trial to inevitably wind up in jail. The court is rarely in their favor now that their family could be at risk, their children could be the next ones they snatch away from their fingertips.

They tend to be...harsher.

The team returns, finding their place in the palace they've grown accustomed to. Hopefully, if they desire, they will return to teach children and older to control their abilities. When Logan returns he freshens up soon following Estelle's scent. Making his way through the town he finds her standing in front of a statue of Gambit. A fallen hero who is celebrated yearly for his sacrifice.

Seeing his fiancée standing in the garden, dressed in something casual for once, she stares at the marble and gold.

Walking to her side he speaks sternly, "You know we have somewhere to be."

She looks down at him, clearly confused, "We do? I don't recall scheduling anything."

It's been a month since the X-Men's return, and with that, Estelle has taken the time to breathe instead of grieve in her free moments. So to hear of such a sudden occasion confused her.

"Yeah, let's go."

Leading her to the street his motorcycle stands proud, new, and shinned. Joy fills her eyes, slipping on the back of the bike with him, they ride. Far from the city and into the wilderness they've known to love. Her eyes almost water at the sight of a brick cabin, similar to the one at home.

She hasn't been back to her home in 5 years, accepting the tearful goodbye as the last. So to see this shakes her in the right way. Slipping off the helmet, she smiles, "Logan, what is this?"

Returning her joyed gaze he nods his head, "It's almost the same, you should go in."

She listens, stepping inside to soak in the home. Much like her other, it rests cozy, with instruments and fragments of memories. Hearing the door close, she turns around to see Emma, Ororo, and Jean.

Jean speaks softly, "Come on, we have don't have much time."

Confused, they pull her into the kitchen, placing a long mirror in front of her they work quickly.

"What's going on?"

Ororo smiles, twisting and turning her hair, "Getting you ready for your big day."

Her thoughts ring, cheeks flushed she smiles.

Her wedding day.

A day that she thought would never come is here.

Doing her makeup and hair, Destiny walks in with the wedding dress. "I hope I'm not too late."

Looking at the gown, she takes in every detail, from the pure white color, to the strapless neckline with laced embellishments. All falling, expanding beyond the waist to form the perfect gown, the perfect wedding dress. Helping her dress, Emma hands her a bouquet of sunflowers, roses, and snapdragons.

Smiling at Emma she hugs her tightly, "Thank you."

Emma has been the one person who remained by Estelle's side through her lowest moments. Only in the deepest parts of Emma's mind and heart would she ever admit that Estelle has become someone special to her. A star amongst darkness, much like how she's a diamond among rock.

Emma and Estelle have a bond that has intertwined, far behind fate, to the point that in branches of this single reality, they would find each other to continue such a bond.

A sisterhood.

"Of course. I'll always be here for you."

Leading her to the backdoor, Emma stays by her side. Ready Estelle walks through the door, hand-in-hand with the blond. As the sun begins to set firefly lights adorn the branches, lighting the way as familiar faces of those who she met and stood by her watch from the sides.

Looking at Logan, eyes watering at the sight of her, Estelle feels ecstatic. Emma gives her away, taking her place to the side. Hank officiates it, spreading his words of truth and care.

And as Estelle and Logan look into each other eyes, their worlds collide. Every tear, shred of anger, and moment of joy came together wrapped up in one instant. This moment of unity, and as he squeezes her hand, Hank speaks his final words. Leaning in close, they kiss each other, drowning out the applause of the others.

Food ready and eaten, they come together to enjoy the moment beneath the moonlight.

In similar woods, Estelle feared for her life, only to find a broken man. Healing his mind unknowing the effects, a bond was made.

Estelle and Logan Howlett.

But in this world, a happy ending doesn't last long. But it can wait until after the wedding.
