Chapter 4
20:31, 16 October 2024Estelle POV
Humming to the tune on the radio, I grow closer to Xavier's school. As I do a thought begins to click of who stumbled in my neck of the woods.
An X-Men, Wolverine to be exact.
I heard of them in passing, on the news or articles in the paper, but it never quite clicked until now. Growing nervous, I pull up to the driveway and take a deep breath before slipping out my car. Admiring the building of brick and promise, I smile softly.
Making my way to the front doors, they open revealing Logan. I give him a friendly smile, "Good morning, thanks again for inviting me."
"No problem, let me show you around."
And that he does, from room to room I take in every detail, his friends. Morph, a shapeshifting jokester who seems to be close friends with Logan. Jubilee and Gambit, two firecrackers that bring life and flavor into the room. Jean and Scott a close couple that radiate power and a sense of stability. And Hank the blue man-beast who I've read articles about his findings and study in passing.
His friendly nature is clear, especially as he sits me down to explain how he'll help me learn to control my abilities. But of course, he asks me a few questions, "My name is Estelle Stewart, and my abilities activated the day my parents died, I was 19 at the time."
He looks remorseful, "I apologize for your loss."
I give him a friendly smile, "Thank you. Um, I discovered my ability when I was gripping an empty glass, in my grief I turned the glass into sand."
He writes this down, "Remarkable. It will take some time to see the full extent of your abilities but we can start small."
Handing me a potted flower he explains, "Your goal is to turn back the clock right before its blooming stage. Please give it a try."
So I do, placing my finger on the peddle, I watch it shrink, jerking my hand back as it digs in the soil. Nervous I look at Hank but he shows no ill feelings, "No worries, Logan if you'll show her to the backyard. There are plenty of flowers where you can practice to your heart's content!"
I stand, "Thank you."
I forgot Logan was still here, and while I'm surprised he stayed I'm glad he did. Leaving his lab, Morph is there leaning against the wall. Mumbling something to Logan, which causes the tip of his ears to flush, making Morph laugh. Logan looks at me, "The backyard is downstairs to your left, I'll be there in a minute."
I nod, leaving the two behind, finding my way I see colorful flowers along the edge of the field, "A little big to be called a backyard." Sitting down, I start to practice, over and over again failing in frustration. In all honesty, I'm fearful of powers, but I know I shouldn't. That's why I'm here, concentrating, I take a quick breath. Stroking the flower, I hum softly, watching as it slowly holds itself until it's nothing but a bud.
I smile brightly, only to jump at the sudden sound of Logan's voice, "Looks like you're getting the hang of it."
Looking at him, I stare for a moment, "How long has he been there?"
He crosses his arms, "Not long. I'm impressed, sometimes it takes years to get past the first step."
I nod laughing a bit, "Yeah, but half of the flowers are gone."
He continues, "You can come by anytime."
"Ok, I appreciate you." My stomach growls softly as he walks away, "Come on."
Following him to the kitchen, I see a beautiful woman with white hair and dark brown skin. Storm, a mesmerizing beauty that leaves me a bit stunned. Her friendly words and kind smile allow me to return it before she walks off. Flushed, I can only stare. Logan begins to make a sandwich, allowing me to confess honestly.
"Why is everyone here so beautiful..."
I can't help but feel like a rock surrounded by diamonds, "It's nerve-wracking."
Logan answers honestly, "Then you'll fit right in."
Flushed, I look at him in shock as he hands me a plate before walking past me. Hearing Morph talking to him I notice his flushed ears from the corner of my eyes. Heart squeezing, my attention turns to the southern beauty, Rouge.
We talk as I eat my sandwich, sipping on sweet tea to combat the heat. "So Sugga, how did you and Logan meet?"
Putting my cup down, I answer honestly, "Well, I bumped into him a the mall by accident, and dropped my wallet. He came to my place to return it to me, but he scared me so I accidentally zapped him. Tried my best to patch him up, thankfully he seems fine."
Left out some major details but that's the gist of it.
She smiles, "I'm impressed you took down the big guy. Maybe that's why he's been so calm lately."
This peaks my interest but I don't dig into it. Cleaning my dish, I speak up, "Do you know where I could find Logan, I want to say goodbye before heading out."
"He's probably in the Danger Room training."
Leading the way, we end up in the observatory allowing us to see the wonders of the Danger Room. Watching the screen, my heart leaps at the sight of Logan training. Fighting against foes and robots, I can't help but feel a bit aroused. Flushed, I watch him finish in success, Rouge's words don't reach me.
"You ok sugar?"
Snapping out of it I nod, "Yes, I'm ok! Sorry."
She smiles at me mischievously, making my cheeks burn. We meet him on his way out, Rouge leaves saying she has to do something.
"Logan, I just wanted to say bye, I'm heading home."
He nods, "Ok, see you around."
Walking past him, my cheeks burn as my waking thoughts revolve around him.
What has gotten into me?
