Chapter 6
08:32, 2 March 2014When I woke up it was still really dark out. And I was wearing my contacts. Again. I tried to roll over and fall back asleep, but it proved extremely difficult. My cheeked grazed something kinda rough and I remembered that I had fallen asleep at Drew's place. How did I even fall asleep in here? I wondered. I recalled the music was pumping so loud that the bass started to shake the picture frames off the wall. By now though, the house had cleared out and was completely silent. My eyes started to adjust to the darkness and I started to make out the shape of a face. His chocolate brown locks were covering his face, and his head was resting on the armrest of the couch. His arm was draped over my body which was why I couldn't move. Then I realized.
Oh my god. I had literally fallen asleep in Wesley's lap. My head was resting right on top of his knee, and he had wrapped his arm around me so I wouldn't fall off the couch. I would have thought it was sweet if I wasn't so busy freaking out. My mind started racing. How the hell am I supposed to get out of this? I started moving slowly, trying not to fidget too much and wake Wesley.
So much for that. Wes started moving under me and I heard him clear his throat. I tried to sit up so I wouldn't awkwardly be laying on him anymore, but my head started pounding. I groaned. Wesley looked down at me and laughed.
"Well I guess someone had a good sleep huh?" He gave me that trademarked Stromberg smirk and I groaned again.
"Head. pounding." I said as I cuddled into his stomach. I felt him tense up when I touched him, but he relaxed just as quickly. "Ugh. sorry for falling asleep on you." I confessed.
"Haha no worries, You didn't really have any control over it. You passed out." He said. He must have sensed my complete embarrassment because he kept talking, "Seriously Avery. It's fine. I've passed out in worse places."
"What time is it?" I mumbled. He pulled out his phone.
"3:30." I groaned again and he put his hand on the top of my head. If my skull didn't feel like it was cracking in half I would have pulled away. I can't be sucked in by a guy like Wes. I just can't fall for him. "How much did you drink last night anyway?" He brought his hand around to the back of his neck. He had an expression on his face like he was kinda concerned or worried.
"Uhhh I don't know..." I racked my brain trying to remember. Everything was pretty fuzzy. I'm positive I didn't do anything though. I was knocked out for most of the night. "I think 5 or 6." He let out a low whistle as he pushed the hair from my face.
"Ohh. First big party huh?" He looked me in the eye and something told me that he's been there before. Is he... being nice? The alcohol must still be messing with my mind.
"Nah, not really. I'm just not really a big tequila person..." I said. My head started hurting again just thinking about it. He snickered at me, but it was strangely comforting.
"Yeah, that stuff is rough." He smiled at me. Why is he being so cute? Stop. No. What are you doing? Avery pull it together. "I've got an idea." He lightly lifted my head from his lap and got up before gently laying me back down on the couch. He came back with a bottle of water and some orange juice. "Drink." he told me as he handed me the glass. I finished it all, and I felt a little better. He also handed me some crackers. "Here, it's important to keep something in your stomach, it'll make you less naseous."
"Thanks Wes." I told him. Before I could help myself I started to yawn. I was getting tired again. I went to go to sleep again, but Wesley came over and started nudging me awake.
"Oh no. We gotta get you home Avery. It's late. Owen and Adrianna went home to cover for you, but your mom might notice if you aren't in your bed in the morning." My face was smushed against the couch.
"Mrhmmmmmhm." I said into the pillow. I hope he realized that meant 'I don't wanna'. He hesitated, then slipped his arms around my waist and picked me up. He was cradling me in his arms and I rested my head on his shoulder. He had one arm supporting my back, and the other one under my knees. We passed by Drew who had walked downstairs in just a pair of sweatpants.
"Wes, man what's going on down-" His eyes widened. He pointed his finger at Wes, then at me. Wes started shaking his head.
"Drew! No! Dude..." His face turned red and he started biting his bottom lip. "Uh... she passed out on the couch and she's kinda hung over. I was just going to bring her home." Wes said
"Ah. I see." He was eating a container of banana yogurt. "She lives right around the corner, next to Trevor."
"Cool. Thanks man. I'll be back in a few."
"Uh huh. Okay you two..." He shook his spoon at us. I was too tired to figure out what that meant. But Wesley turned red again. He carried me out the door, and soon we were walking on the street. Well, he was walking, I was in his arms with my hands around his neck. When we got to the house, he went in through the back door, which was left open. He stepped quietly on the wooden floor in the living room, careful not to wake Selene and my mother. How is he still carrying me? I must be killing him right now. I looked up at his face, but he wasn't even breaking a sweat. Oh yeah. I forgot. He was completely ripped. I glanced quickly at his arms. His biceps flexed as we started up the stairs.
I couldn't help it. He was gorgeous. There was no denying it. He carried me into Adrianna's room and lowered me onto the bed. He set me up with a cup of water on the nightstand, and pulled the covers over me.
"Let me know how you're feeling tomorrow, m'kay?" He told me, "I put my number in your phone." he said placing my Crackberry on the nightstand next to the water. Yes, Crackberry. It used to be a Blackberry before I dropped it a hundred times and the screen got wrecked.
"Thanks Wesley." I grabbed his hand. He just stood there for a while, holding my fingers in his. He laced his fingers in mine and then released his hand and tucked my arm under the covers.
"Good night Avery." he whispered. He turned to go out the door, but I stopped him.
"Wes?" I asked him
"Yeah?"
"Uhm, can you uh..." I started, kind of embarrassed.
"What is it?" He asked, coming back over to me. He sat down on the corner of my bed.
"Can you sing to me?" I asked. I bit my lip as I waited for his answer. I could see his smile even in the pitch black darkness of Adrianna's room.
"Sure."
"I don't practice Santeria, I ain't got no crystal ball, Well I had a million dollars but I, I spent it all..."
He put this really cool spin on the song. Instead of being so excited and hyped up like he was last night, he was sweet and soulful. It was magical. I couldn't look at him while he sang to me, he made me blush. When he sings to you, he makes you feel like you're the only girl in the world. I shut my eyes, but continued to listen intently. I think he thought that I fell asleep because before the last verse he stopped. I played along and pretended that I was sound asleep.
"Seriously? I can't believe you fell asleep!" He laughed. I felt him get up off my bed, but he didn't leave. I opened my eyes slightly. He was just standing there, biting his lip. I think he does that when he gets nervous. It was kind of cute. Then he bent down and kissed me on softly on the lips. It only lasted for about half a second, but it was long enough to paralyze me completely. "Goodnight Aves." Then he stood up straight and left.
After the door closed Adrianna turned to me. "Holy shit." Of course she was awake. I smiled, the kiss finally setting in.
I was stunned. He likes me? Now I was the one biting my lip. This hasn't happened to me before. Guys usually went for Katie and Talia, not me.
"Oh my God." She said again.
I stared up at the celing.
"I know."
