Chapter 41

01:49, 9 March 2014

I woke up in a strange room, I felt so weak. I couldn't sit up, I could barely move. My eyes looked around this empty room, no one else was in there. Just me. Am I dreaming? What's going on? I wiggled my legs around a little bit, I noticed I was hooked up to machines. Why?

"Oh my baby!" My mom rushed by my side and hugged me, a man in a white coat followed her. "Hello, Miss Miller." He smiled at me, I smiled back. "Hi." I faintly spoke. "How are you feeling? Any pain?" "What happened?" I managed to whispered, the man look at my mom.

"I'll explain in a while, first of all you need to answer my question. Are you feeling any major pain?" "No, my wrist hurts and I have no energy." "And you're struggling to speak, as I can pick up." I nodded and attempted to sit up.

"No, stay laying down." The doctor instructed. "Can we get her another pillow?" My mom asked him, he nodded and walked away. "Mom, what happened?" I asked. "You don't remember?" "Remember what?" "You got into a car accident, sweetie." "Wha- When?" "Yesterday evening, Cody was driving an-" "Cody! Where's Cody?! Is he okay?!" My heart started beating double time, I was panicking like hell.

"Cody's fi-" "Where is he?!" I started to cry, I sat up and used every bit of effort I had to get out of bed. I fell onto the cold, hard floor as soon as I got up. I sat there and cried, I couldn't breathe. "Mom- I ca- Can't breathe." I panted, she started worrying and called for the doctor.

The docter came rushing in and helped me up, he layed me back on the bed. I still couldn't breathe, everything seemed to be going slow motion. "What's happening?!" My mom sounded scared, I looked at her. She had tears down her face as she watched me stare at her motionless.

"She's having a panick attack, she'll be okay." He said before asking her to leave. Once I was back to myself mom came back in, this time others followed her. Angie, Alli, Tom and Lilly.. No Cody. I looked at everyone. "Where's Cody?" I asked worried.

"He's okay, sweetie." "Where is he?" I sat up. "No, lay down. You can't do this to yourself again." Mom layed me back down, I was confused. Why aren't they answering my question? "Where is he, Alli?" I looked her dead in the eye. "He's okay." She reassured me.

"No, where is he?" Alli looked at Angie. Lilly climbed onto my bed with me and layed down, she wrapped my arms around her. "We can't find Cody." She told me, I looked at her confused. "What do you mean?" I asked everyone.

"He was discharged from hospital after a few hours with just a few cuts and bruises. We haven't seen him since he left home. We all thought he'd come to see you but he isn't here." Angie said with hurt and worry in her voice.

The doctor walked back into the room. "Have you seen Cody?" I asked. "The boy you came in here with?" He asked, I looked at the others, they nodded. "He was with you all night, he left early hours of this morning." He said. "Now, can I have a few minutes alone with Lauren?" Everyone got up and left the room.

After the docter had run a few tests on me he left and everyone came back in. "Mom, why don't you go to Canada now? You know I'm safe, you and dad need a break." I turned to look at her. "Sweetie.." She started. "No, that's a good idea." Angie interrupted. "You have your holiday, no need to worry. Brad and I will look after Lauren." She suggested.

"I can't do that, you're going to South America in two days." "I won't go, I'll stay behind and look after Lauren. You need a break." "Are you sure?" "Of course, she's like my daughter." Mom thought about it, I started to fall asleep while watching them.

The next time I opened my eyes, I was alone in the roo- Wait no. Cody. He was asleep on the chair next to me, I smiled at the sight of him. I was relieved he's safe. I watched him sleep. He's my angel and he looked just like one while sleeping.

His phone started ringing, he jumped and then picked it up without noticing me. I watched as he read the caller ID, he threw his phone at the wall. I jumped which caught his attention. His dark eyes grew soft as they landed on me.

His tense body loosened, why was he just stood there? It was as if he was scared to touch me, I reached out for him. He took a step backwards so I couldn't touch him, our eyes were still locked to each others. "Cody?" I whispered, he looked at my lips and then my hand.

"I'm so sorry." He broke down, I watched as he fell to the floor. Tears fell down his cheeks as if it was a race. "Cody.." I said louder, he looked up at me. "Come here?" I moved to the side, he got up slowly and walked towards me.

His fingers scanned my face lightly, he ran them over the bumps from the cuts. I pulled on his shirt lightly. He followed my movement and layed next to me on the bed, he put his arm under me as I cuddled up to him. I felt his other hand on my thigh, his thumb lightly stroking me.

"I broke you." He whispered. "It wasn't your fault." "Do you remember it?" "I remember screaming at you, I don't remember what I said but I know I screamed at you." "You practically saved our lives. I was too busy looking at you." He held me tighter.

"Thank you." He kissed my head, I held his shirt as tight as I could. "Where were you?" "Thinking." "That wasn't my question." I paused. "You had everyone worried, no one knew were you were and dad, your dad and Trey were all looking for you."

"They still don't know." He said with no emotion. I looked at him. "Is that who was ringing you?" "They all keep on ringing." "Has everyone gone home?" "Yes. They don't know I'm here." "They need to know, Cody. Everyone's worried."

"I heard you had a panick attack." He changed the subject, I rolled my eyes. "Why did you smash your phone?" We both looked over to the smashed phone on the floor. "I was angry." "Angry at who?" "Me." "Why-" "I could of killed you." He said harshly.

"But you didn't, we're both safe and healthy." "You had a panick attack because of me. You passed out, you're broken and it's all my fault." "No, just because you were driving doesn't mean it's your fault." "I'm never leaving your side ever again." He was so closed.

"You're going away in two days." "Was." "No Cody, you are." I sat up, Cody pulled me back down. I couldn't fight him off, I'm too weak and he's so strong. "When I watched you get put onto that stretcher, my heart broke." He started.

"I had no idea if you were even breathing, you looked so lifeless and broken. So delicate. I felt like it was all my fault, I still do. It happened so quick but it happened so slow at the same time, I watched as the car hit us and you flew forwards. I threw my arm infront of you and you slammed back into the seat. Your eyes were closed and you couldn't keep your head up. There was glass everywhere, the other driver drove off as fast as he could. It was just you, I and all the damage the car left behind. Your voice was ringing in my ears." I felt tears escape my eyes as I listened to him.

"I was convinced that was going to be the last time I would ever hear your voice, the last time I was ever going to be able to touch you and hear your laugh. I kept my arm infront of you, my heart stopped beating as I watched the cars around us stop and people getting out. I came to the realisation you were going to be taken from me in a matter of minutes. And I didn't know if I was going to ever see you again." I listened as his voice kept cracking as he talked.

"In those short seven minutes I realised that you are the most special person I've ever met, you're my everything. I can't live without you, Lauren. You are my life and I never ever want to be in that situation again, I hate myself for it. I'm never going to be able to forgive myself for what I did do you, it's all my fault and if you hate me then that's fine. I understand if you hate me, I really do. I hate me." He finished off.

"I love you." Those three simple words said it all, I've never meant it so much until now. I held onto him tighter as he cradled me in his arms. I heard someone sniff, I looked over at the door. Stood there was our moms. Both of them were in tears as they watched us, I knew by the look on their faces that they'd heard his whole speech.

"Mom, I'm not going to South America." Cody said. "Of course hunny, I'll tell Matt later." She sounded so out of sorts as if she was the one he'd just spilled his heart out to. "Sweetie, I'm going to the airport now." Mom broke the silence, I nodded without letting go of Cody.

I guess I'd fallen asleep because I woke up to darkness outside the window. I was alone in the room once again so I sat up and looked around. I felt more able so I decided to get out of bed and use the restroom. Bad idea. The second my feet touched the floor I fell.

Cody came in with food, he quickly put it on the bed and helped me up. "What were you doing?" He sounded concerned but annoyed. "I'm sorry, I just need to go to the toilet." I said as he sat me on the bed. "Alright, I'll go get a nurse to help you over there." He turned his back.

"Can't you just carry me?" I asked, he turned back around. "I can't take you into the restroom." "Why not?" I kicked my legs. "I don't want someone I don't know helping me go to the toilet." I said and looked at him, he sighed. He knew he wasn't going to win so he came over and scooped me up.

Once we got back we both sat on the bed together, on oppisit ends. "I thought visitors were only allowed for certain hours?" I asked as I looked at the clock. It's 10pm already. "I- Ugh- They just let me stay." "No they didn't. How come you're still here?" I asked in a more serious tone.

"I refused to leave you." He didn't make eye contact as he put some fries in his mouth. "Nothing's going to happen to me over night, Codes." "I'm not risking it." "Oh boy." I leaned back on the pillows, he looked up at me.

"What?" "You're going to be so over protective for-like-ever now." "Do you blame me?" "Cody, it was an accident and it's not going to happen twice." "I don't think it was." He got up and left the room with our trash, I sat up once he left. "I don't think it was." What? What did he mean?

I watched him as he came back in and sat on the end of the bed again. My eyes never left him, trying to work out what he meant. "I just think that the other driver moved away too fast for it to be an accident, I think they meant to hit us." He said, I guess he could tell what I was trying to work out.

"I don't know if it was us they meant to hit or someone esle but I know they didn't crash into our car 'by accident' I just don't believe it." "But Cody, who would want to hurt us? Hurt you or me?" "That's what I'm trying to figure out, who would want to hurt us that bad that they would attempt to kill us? It's so confusing. But I just know it was meant to happen." He looked around the room.

"I can think of one person but I'm sure she wouldn't do this." I lifted the blankets and got under them, he raised an eyebrow. "Carrie." We said at the same time. "She's not capable of that, is she?" I asked worried, Cody shook his head.

"No, she couldn't of done that. She wants you gone but that's only so she can have me. She wouldn't hurt me." "She didn't hurt you." I pointed out, he froze. "You're right. The car hit your side of our car, it was you who got hurt more than I did." He thought out loud as he paced back and forth.

"I still don't think she would of done this. It's too much. We could of died." He looked at me, I shrugged. "It was just an idea." I closed my eyes. "How can you be so careless?" I opened my eyes again and looked at him.

"You don't see it? Someone tried to hurt you, you. They attempted to ki-" "Cody, for all we know it was just an accident. Stop overthinking things." I dismissed. "I think you should go to South America." Cody laughed at what I said.

"I'm being serious." He laughed again. "You must me stupid." "Just go, clear your head and be with your fans." "And what if you get hurt while I'm gone?" "I'll ring you and ask you to come home." I smiled to myself. "Because it's that easy." He said sarcastically. "Mhmm." I hummed as I nodded.

"I just need to know you're safe." He sat down on the chair next to me. "I am, you can see me. Talking and stuff." "I'll go. Only if you can walk by tomorrow evening." He proposed "Deal." I closed my eyes and stuck out my hand. Cody shook it as he copied me. "Deal."

I heard the door open, I looked over at it. "Sir, you really need to leave now. Miss Miller needs to get some rest." I looked at Cody, I knew he was going to refuse. "Go home, have a shower and go to sleep. I'll be fine." I reassured him, he shook his head and grabbed my hand.

"I can't leave you." "Baby, please." I begged him, he looked so scared. "I promise I'll be okay." "I'll be here when you wake up." He said, I nodded. "I know you will be, I love you." He leaned down and kissed my lips and then my forehead.

"Don't try to get up on your own." He said as he walked towards the door, I laughed slightly. "I'm not going to." "I love you, baby." He reminded, I smiled. I watched as Cody and the nurse talked outside the room for a few minutes. What were they talking about?
