Golden Girl

We loaded in an armored truck, me and Aspen sitting on a side, and on the other Enobaria and Cato.

" Where did you learn to throw like that? It was amazing." Enobaria states, a proud smile coming onto her lips. " I'm almost mad you didn't tell any of us you could do that."

I didn't want to look at Cato or Aspen, I'm sure whatever their expressions were, it wasn't enthused. And seeing I might be on thin ice, I don't want to see them smile.

" Some of it was from basic in the academy, but most of it was from my dad, we wanted to teach me stuff like that for self defense if I didn't have a gun." I say simply.

" That was a bloodbath. Not just simple things you learned." Cato snapped.

" She trained all the time, her dad would make her wake up early and train along with some other peacekeepers." Aspen says. " Both are perfectionists."

I try my best not to snap my head towards him, he knows what he's doing. Does he now see me as a threat now he decides he needs to tell Cato so he won't help me?

I give him a glare quickly before looking at my wrists, rubbing them.

" Who was there training you, besides your dad?" Cato asked moving a little bit closer. His eyes were trained on me.

I leaned away from him trying to look disinterested. " I don't know Cato, he is one of the head guys, there were some from all over the districts."

Cato continues to look at me, squinting his eyes.

" Normal peacekeepers couldn't teach you that."

" I never said they were normal, I said my dad knew them."

" Then I should know them to,my dad is just as important. Who were they." He pushed.

I could feel my face blush, that happens when I'm nervous a lot.

" I already said I don't know."

" But I think you do know." He says, his eyes never leaving mine. He's trying so hard to find something.

I needed to play it cool, I can't show him I'm nervous.

I laugh, trying to play it off as best as I can. " Don't worry, I'm not going to kill you like your simulation if that's what your worried about."

He half smirked, though his eyes were fuming, " Not worried at all. I saw your little friend from 1 turn it to one of the hardest settings, you did it flawlessly. Though the Capitol fixed your wrists, your form was still perfect. I know I saw it before." He states, though the last part I think he was talking to himself more then he was talking to anyone else.

Though my heart was pounding I still felt a little boastful, Who am I kidding? I don't need his help.. Just looking at the guy he was bothered meaning I am good, good enough for Cato to worry about.

I lean forward giving the same smirk he gives to me "Not to bad for that techy huh? Like I said Hadley.."

I turned to Aspen who was looking at me, " Don't count me out yet."

And with that the Truck was parked and I was the first one out.

I stayed in my room for the rest of the night, I know if I was out there Cato would do more questioning. He doesn't need to figure it out yet.

I did lock my room just in case. Now knowing he is a little extreme I wasn't sure if he would ever do something.

I'm just glad I'm finally able to put actions where my mouth is. Shutting his up...perfect.

The next day was another training day, I hear my alarm, rolling out of bed. I rummage through my drawers for another set of athletic clothes finding a black spandex crop top and legging set.

I walk out to the living room where Cato was already, eating. He probably wanted to be up first to follow me to the training center.

Maybe I can just slip out without him noticing.

" Your up early." He says leaning on the counter. He looks mad already his face was clenched as he watched me put my shoes on.

" I couldn't sleep." I say simply. I don't dare look at him I reach behind him to grab a banana.

" Don't you need to get Aspen up?" I ask peeling the banana.

" Enobaria can go wake him up. I'll go with you to training." Exactly what he wanted to do.

He wants to see if he can find something, whether he knows where I learned from, or a weakness if need be.

He looks at my outfit.

" Your not wearing that are you?"

I look at him." Yes, sir."

" Um, no I don't think you are... that's way to tight, and that shirt shows to much, it's not a strip club Musak."

I took a sharp breath..give me patients.." Cato... it's a crop top. It's supposed to be like that."

" Your here to train, not distract."

" Who would I be distracting?" I question giving a little grin. " Maybe if I distract no one will train, it's a win-win." I say slyly.

He crossed his arms annoyed.He doesn't say anything, " Hmm, that what's what I thought."  I assured.

I thought I saw something on his neck. He said something though I didn't pay attention, I took a step closer to him." What are you looking at?" He asks covering exactly where I was looking.

I looked up at him" I thought you weren't screwing Capitol women 'They all look like clowns' I thought you said." I articulated.

He stammered unsure what to say," I need to keep myself entertained. And it wasn't anyone from the Capitol."

" Who was it then?" I ask leaning on the table behind me, copying his stance, arms crossed.

" Why do you want to know?" He asks.

" Why can't I know?" I question, My smile was wide at his discomfort.

" Are you being jealous Kaylaya... there's plenty to go around, all you need to do is ask." He says,looking down at me licking his lips.

Oh we can so use this..

I purposely bit my lip coming forward, " Hmmmm.. I guess I've been a little bored to." I almost whisper looking up at him though my eyelashes giving a small smile.

He freezes.

I take the opportunity to graze his arm just a little bit, I see goosebumps form. I again look up at him biting my lip just enough.

It seemed like his eyes darkened when I looked back up at him. I think he thinks I'm serious.

I push myself off the table walking towards the door " I'm meeting River for a little pre work out, don't wait up." I say normally making my way to the door.He snaps his head to look at me but I smile and give him a wink before closing the door.

What an idiot.

When I get to the center my team was there already, I tell them good morning, they wanted to see what else I could do. So we decide to go to the swords. They had dummies scattered about so we did that for a little bit, then we threw some axes I wasn't very good with the bigger ones but the smaller ones I hit all the targets.

Cato was right, River and Colin they were always looking at me or standing behind me checking me out, Prim and Lilli thought it would be funny to tease them about it, which it was.

" The Careers have been sending us daggers all day." Lilli says as we went to do one of the survival stations.

" Probably because they know they let go of the biggest threats this year in the Games, and probably the best fighter here." Colin says as he was doing on of the poisonous plant simulations.

" Pshh, she's good but not that good. I bet I could beat her." River says giving me a cocky smile.

I scoff, " Really?"

He straightens his back challenging me," Yea. Easily."

Does he actually think that? No way.

I give him a look, " We'll have to test that theory out I guess."

He nods, " Fine let's go spare."

" Ok."

We walk out of the station going to one of the open sparring mats. " 2 weapons your choice whoever taps out first loses." River says.

I grab a larger curved sword and a couple knives, while he just grabs a trident.

Classic.

We go to opposite ends of the mat.

" Whenever you ready princess." He teased, trying to get a rise out of me.

Not going to work buddy.

I start walking the perimeter.

He's built, No doubt hand to hand he'd be good in. Plus, he Finnick's brother, no doubt he'll fight just like him. I already know I don't want to be on the opposing side of that trident.

We'll see how fast he is.

I decide to go first. Let's see.

I start running towards him using my left arm to swing my sword while my right threw a knife. I saw his eyes go wide as he discord barely missing the knife.

" Come on Odair, You almost got out in the first 30 seconds." I taunt standing there. We were a good distance away, I just cross my arms looking at him.

" Jut getting warmed up." He spits though he looks a little flustered.

I hummed taking another lunge, I wanted to tackle him When I ran he ducked making me hit the wall behind him.

" Ow." I groaned. He attempts to hit me with the handle if his trident but I roll out of the way getting up.

River was right there, I mentally kicked myself for getting up back away from him. He grabs me about to throw me to the ground but I jump pushing back into him, then throwing myself forward so I throw him over myself.

He slams into the floor with a huge thud. I waste no time lodging my curved sword in the mat above him.

The blade just inches away from his throat.

With a breath I look down at him smiling. " I think that's a win...correct?"

He was breathing heavily looking up at me, almost in disbelief and embarrassment. " I wasn't ready." He

" You need to be, it's embarrassing I took out out in the matter of minutes."

" I couldn't impale you, that makes a difference." He retorts.

I smirk, " All excuses."

I unlodge the knife looking around to everyone staring at us..again. Don't these tributes need to train to instead of seeing what I'm doing?

Cato was close to the at glaring at the two of us. He no doubt watched all that to, I look at River " Come on." I pull him up, he accidentally bumps into me, to close for comfort but I didn't mind entirely.

" Mind if I have a go?" I look to my left to see Aspen stepping up to the mat, taking an axe and a long sword. " You know if your not scared." He taunted.

" Never." I walk to my side quickly grabbing a small knife and slipping it into my sleeve, I have a feeling I might need it. Cato was watching with some of the other Mentors. He looked blank again, just watching.

" Go!" Someone yelled.

I move around causing Aspen to not know what I would do, I guess we never really talked about what I did in my training, I guess that's a good thing now because even the ones closest to you can become the ones most fatal.

He spins his sword around coming at me. He was slower when he's twirling it. He used the light on my side to shine it in my eyes.

Classic daze effect. Now with the small black dots in my eyes I see him coming back at me, I swing my curved sword also going at him. I was a lot faster so he stops backing up.

I swing it again so he'll move making me have my spot back, I do the same trick he did shining it in his eyes. I take another knife throwing it right next to his head. It startled him.

One thing I know about Aspen he can have a real bad temper, especially when things don't go to plan. He sneers and charges me in which I dart away using the back of my elbow to crash on his back.

He grunts in pain, " Come on, that's all you have?" I yell.

He turns getting another knife thrown at him, I chuckle. He dodges it running full force at me, I get out of the way though he catches my leg pulling me down.

He gets on top of me, his hands go directly to my neck. Thanks Cato for the inspiration.

Though I don't think he wa trying to get me to tap out, he was trying to do damage. I felt the same way when Cato was strangling me.

My instinct seemed to kick in, ' do or die' I pushed my hands in his face trying to distract him. I swing my legs around his shoulders pushing down so he falls back.

My turn.

I get on top of him, punching. He tried to block it with one arm, the other one trying to dig for something.

I Take my small knife, digging it in his throat.

" Done." I seethed putting pressure on the blade. He looks up at me just as mad,I was ripped off by someone, and was slammed against the wall.

" What are you thinking that's your partner you Idiot!" It was Cato.

I felt my vision get blurry and I couldn't even respond, I coughed violently getting strangled and now getting the wind knocked out of me.

" Leave her alone! He was the one attacking her first." It was River, he ripped Cato off me, Prim and Lilli came to grab me while Colin was trying to break the two up.

" I can do whatever I want with her! She's my tribute!" Cato said also pushing River.

" She's not yours to make decisions for." River said squaring up to Cato.

" She's not yours either." Cato sneered.

" She's not. But I know damn well, we- I- can keep her safer and more prepared then you Hadley. I heard what you did to her! Your sick in the head, you know that to do that to YOUR tribute!"

He knows about the wrist thing? Why wouldn't he.. Enobaria has been talking to Finnick.

It looked like Cato was about to punch him. Peacekeepers came to separate the two, though they kept yelling and trying to get at each other.

Baria, Finnick and Johanna came over making sure I was ok, or help contain River and Cato.

Enobaria said something to Cato before coming back over to me. " Let's go."

I gave Cato a look before turning around," Yeah go with Fish boy Kaylaya! Be a damn idiot and disrespect your District! Your family would be so dis-"

I don't know what came over me, I pushed off River and Prim, but the knife I had landed in Cato's shoulder.

He grunted in pain. Everyone else looked at me in complete shock.

" Say one more thing about my family Cato." I yell trying now to go at him to but River tugs me out of the door along with the others.
