Peridot's Lament

... Lapis!

"Lapis..." There was something different about Peridot's voice this time around. Instead of being sober and detached, it was full of warmth and happiness.

Lapis noticed. "Peri...?"

"Lapis!"

They just stood there for a while, shouting each other's names in disbelief.

"Y-you remember me?!"

"I remember you!"

"W-wow..."

Lapis hugged Peridot tightly, and Peridot drowned in the warmth of her embrace. She was so happy, but...

But something was off. As the blurry memories came into view, she remembered Lapis upset. Lapis in pain. Lapis shouting out for help. Did she have any memories where Lapis was happy? On Homeworld, yes, but this Homeworld was different. On Earth, she was only in pain.

And Peridot would never forget that she had delivered the final blow.

"I'm so happy..." Lapis mumbled. Peridot debated whether or not it was true. Lapis' gentle kisses tasted bitter. Saltwater tears flowed from Peridot's eyes as she quickly wiped them away.

"Peri..."

"... Lapis."
