Part 13

January 2017

Dear Diary,New year, new me, I guess. A lot has happened in such a short period of time. Billie uploaded her song Ocean Eyes about a month ago, and wow.The day after Billies birthday, it had already a thousand streams. I still remember a few weeks ago sitting in the O'Connell kitchen when it came on the radio for the first time. Everyone was so excited. But mostly Billie, she held onto my hand the entire time. We went out for dinner that night to celebrate. It was a great day , also because mum and dad came along. It was one of the only nights in the past few months that they both had a night off.After we had said our goodbyes to the other, we had gotten frozen yogurt together . We were like an actual family.

I really missed nights like these. Mom and dad are always working , so I'm either alone at home or at Billies. I wish I could spend more time with my parents, but I know they work hard, so I don't have to worry about anything in the future .

Tonight, I'm alone again, so Billie asked me to come over for a sleepover. Of course, I couldn't say no to that . Anyway, I should probably get going before Billie complains again that I'm late.

Real life

I closed the diary, putting it back in the drawer of my desk. My backpack was already packed , waiting for me by the door. I sighted. Writing about my parents in my diary put me in a mood.

I often thought about not being good enough. I always studied hard to make my parents proud, but they don't even acknowledge it. I love my parents really, but sometimes I feel like a gost , like I dont exist.

But with Billie, it was different. She actually saw me . She listened to what I had to say and was always so proud of me when I got a good grade at school .I really don't know what I would do without her.

I made my way over to the O'Connell home. The porch light was on making it look so welcoming, and it was . Pepper welcomed me at the door as I stepped inside, making the others acknowledge my presence as well. Maggie came out of the kitchen to welcome me.

"Valerie , honey, so good to see you. Have you eaten yet?" Her usually kind smile spread across her face.

" No, I haven't. "  Maggie signaled me to follow her to the kitchen.

While Maggie loaded me a bunch of her delicious food on a plate, I could feel hands snake around me from the back.

"Hey,Val." Billie rested her chin on my shoulder, looking at my plate.

" Hey, B," I simply answered before grabbing the plate from Maggie before she could put even more food on it. After thanking Maggie for the food , I followed Billie to her room.I set down my backpack and made my way over to her desk to eat the food. Her led lights once again casting the whole room in red light.

" Do you want anything of that?" I pointed to my plate, knowing I wouldn't be able to eat it all by myself. " Why are you even asking . You know I could never pass down food"

She came over before flopping dont on my lap because her desk chair was the only chair in her room. I didn't mind , this was totally normal for us.

We ate for a while, as Billie told me about the songs she was currently writing with Finneas. " Oh, and by the way . The song I showed you a few months ago is finally finished."Billie climbed off my lap before sprawling out on her bed.

" That's great. What was it called again?"I asked, following her to her bed.

" Hostage "

I had to think back to when Billie had played me the song and when she had almost - kissed me? Something like that hasn't happened since then. To be honest, I had already forgotten that happened.

" Well, can you play me the full version now?" I looked at Billie with pleading eyes.

" Of course, mamas." I roled my eyes at her words. She smirked before getting off her bed and leaving her room.She came back a few seconds later, her laptop in hand .

" Scootch over," Billie demanded before taking a seat on her bed again.

She played me the full song and wow it's so good . I still can't believe that Billie is so talented. She literally sounds like an angel. She looked at me the entire time to see my reaction.  She always gets a bit shy when playing her songs to others.

She then showed me some more of the songs she's currently working on, one better than the other.

" Wow, Billie. These are amazing, " I exclaimed.

"Thanks, Val." She smiled. It was a genuine smile.

We talked some more about everything and anything before we decided that it was time to get ready for bed.

Billie went to the bathroom first after she won a round of rock paper scissors about who gets to go first. I texted my mum a quick good night before getting my pj's out of my backpack .

I was mid changing when suddenly Billie busted into the room.

" Billie!" Screamed out quickly, turning around because I was practicly naked.

"Ups, sorry," she sounded pretty unbother, and instead of leaving, she just closed the door behind her and went over to her closet. I pulled my tanktop over my head and changed into some small shorts, which look more like boxers but with cute heart on them, matching my top.

I turned back around to see that Billie was still looking at me . Her usual light blue eyes had turned into something darker, and she had an unreadable expression on her face.

I just shoock my head and left to go to  the bathroom .

When I came back, Billie had already changed into some basketball shorts and a loose t-shirt. She sat on her bed scrolling on her phone , looking up at me as I entered. Her eyes scanning over my body .

" You look really cute in your pj's," she said before looking back at her phone.

"Thanks," I said . She had been complementing my appearance more often lately but I know that Billie is just a natural flirty person so I shook it off.

After I climbed into bed next to Billie she turned the light off and pulled me into her. I could feel Billies breath slowly even out against my back signaling that she had fallen asleep and it took me not to long before I followed her into sleep as well.
