Part 33
15:02, 6 April 2021Steve's POV:
Nat kicked me out of her room during the night, saying she needed some alone time and that she'll see me in the morning. I've been tossing and turning all night, I can't get comfortable.
"Friday?" I ask the ceiling.
"Yes, Captain Rogers?" She replies, I sit up in my bed.
"Is Natasha awake right now?" Theres a slight pause before she answers.
"Yes, she is." I thank the AI before grabbing myself a hoodie and one for Natasha as well, I head down the hall to her room.
I stand outside her door for a moment, contemplating whether I should just walk in or knock first. I knock lightly on the door, opening it slightly just enough for me to put my head around. She grabs her crutches and starts making her way to me. I push the door fully open before I ask, "Do you trust me?"
She nods her head slightly, "I do," I would take her hand and lead her to the elevator but she needs both her hands for the crutches, so instead I hand her the sweatshirt before closing the door behind her. We make our way to the elevator, I tell Friday to take us to the lobby. Natasha gives me a slightly confused look but doesn't seem to question it for long as the doors open and we walk out to the lobby. We head past security, nodding at Gary the security guard as we walk by, when we get to the steps leading down to the street I just pick Nat up, she laughs at the sudden gesture. When we get to the bottom I put her down, per her request and my pouting, and I start to lead her away from the tower.
Once she realizes where I'm taking her a huge smile appears onto her face. About a block away I notice a guy has been following us. "Nat, 6 o'clock" is all I need to say for her to understand. I stop walking directly under a streetlight and pull Natasha towards me, she gives me an over enthusiastic kiss which I return, making the guy who was following us turn the corner and walk away. This probably would have worked better if her crutches hadn't fallen down in the process and if her leg wasn't just kind of waving there as the guy comes back a second later.
Nat seems to grimace and I automatically becomes worried, my face clearly showing it, "You okay, Tash?" I put my hands on her waist looking into her emerald green eyes.
"My leg, baby." She half whimpers as she falls into my arms, I pick her up, not really knowing what to do with her crutches I leave them there, Nat leans her forehead onto mine and kisses my cheek. I can't tell if her leg is actually hurting her or if she is just trying to convince the stalker that she isn't interested but either way I walk past the entrance because I don't want to be stuck in there with a psycho following us.
I turn down a random street before quickly stepping to the side and out of view of anyone who comes down the street, hopefully they would just assume that we went into one of the apartments and that he had missed his chance. I smirk when I hear him curse and walk by us.
Once he is farther down the road, Natasha still in my arms, I head back to where we left Natasha's crutches and put her down as she tries to squirm out of my grip. We head back the direction we were just in and make a right, walking down a path until we come to a tree. Our tree.
I sit down against the tree and pull Natasha down as well so she is sitting in between my legs and is leaning against my chest. "I love you." I whisper into her fiery red hair.
Tash turns her head so she is facing me, "I love you too." She whispers before she kisses my lips. "But we need to talk about yesterday." She tells me once we part.
"Not now," I breath, looking deep into her emerald green eyes, "Not now, Tash." She nods slightly, turning her head back around and leaning it against my chest. We watch the sun rise over the lake, the birds start chirping and soon the park is full of tourists and New Yorkers stopping by on their way to work.
"Do you want to stay or go?" I ask her softly, I kiss the top of her head and she turns it so she is looking at me.
"Stay," Nat replies, "I never want to go." I smile and kiss her before she turns back around, watching the trees sway in the wind.
There's some rustling behind us and some whispers. I sigh, without turning around I say, "What do you want?" quite annoyed that whoever was coming interrupted this time with Nat.
There's some giggles behind us, I turn my head around the tree to see a pack of teenage girls, "Sorry, Mr Captain America Rogers, sir. We were wondering if we could get a selfie?" One of them asks me.
Natasha pokes her head around so she can see them. "Does he look like he wants to take a selfie?" Natasha asks them, they start to back up mumbling half hearted apologies. I laugh at the daggers Nat is giving them.
"You're adorable, Nat." I kiss her forehead as she looks into my eyes.
"I'm not adorable, I'm deadly." This time it's my turn to get the Black Widow death stare. It only makes me laugh some more.
"No, you're adorable." She grunts and punches my shoulder before kissing my cheek and attempting to stand up with one leg completely straight and in front of her. I ask her if she wants any help but she refuses so I watch her struggle for a minute before wrapping my arms under her armpits and pulling her up to a standing position. This earns me another glare, I hand her her crutches and we start making our way back to the tower.
Natasha's POV:
The whole time we were at that tree I was thinking about reason why I should get up and leave. Why do I do that? I somehow came up with, I'm mad at him, he's over-protective, I love him, he's annoying. But I'm really not that mad about yesterday, I got out most of my anger on those books in the common room, what was left of my anger left my body after I tore apart a pillow.
Now we're two block from the tower and I point over to a bench for Steve and I to sit down on. "I know you don't want to talk about it." He sighs, "I don't either but-" He puts a finger on my lips, cutting me off before I can finish.
"Then why talk about it?" He asks taking my hand in his, I look into his crystal blue eyes.
"Steve." I say, "Let me finish, please." I add the last part with my eyes searching my face, Steve nods looking worried. "All I was going to say was that I'm sorry and that I over reacted." I smirk at him, his mouth drops open and he stares at me with a blank expression on his face. "Steve?" I ask after a couple seconds where he hasn't moved. My smirk fades when he still hasn't moved or said anything.
He blinks, "You are so mean," He says, my smirk coming back to my face I put one hand on his cheek and lean forward to kiss him.
We stand up a minute later and continue our walk back to the tower, heading towards the side entrance for 2 reasons:1. no stairs2. no press
When we step into the elevator I say, "I really hate this thing," as I'm looking down at my leg in the cast. Steve comes behind me and wraps his arms around my waist.
"I know," He kisses my neck, "I hate it too." I smirk before the doors open revealing the common room completely wrecked. Steve looks at me, "What did you do?"
I bite my lip, "I might have had a slight meltdown after you left and torn out every page of every book in proximity of me." I see him look at me from his place beside me, he has a 'Really?' face on. We walk into the room. Peter seems to be muttering something under his breath while sitting on the ceiling while Tony is poking him with a broom to get him down. Most of the papers are gone but the vase is still shattered on the floor, the wall where it hit is slightly scratched and Lila, Cooper, and little Nate are running around the coffee table.
Steve clears his throat, "Peter, get off the ceiling. Lila, Coop, Nate go play with Morgan. And Tony stop poking Peter with a broom!" Steve calls to everyone in the room. The little Barton's stop running around the table and head up the stairs towards Morgan's play room while Peter gets poked so hard by Tony that he falls off of the ceiling.
"Pete go do, homework or something." Tony says as Peter is getting up off the floor.
Peter rubs his arm, "But I had a field trip yesterday, here! I have no homework." Tony gives him a look.
"Then go do something in your lab I don't care, just go do something." Tony uses his hands a lots to emphasize his point. Peter leaves the room. "Are we going to talk about why there are no more books on this floor or..." Tony trails off, walking over to us.
"No, we're good." I say with a smile. Steve smiles too and kisses my cheek, making me look up at him.
"Well good. Cause this, is not." Tony pulls up an image. My heart stops.
