Chapter 136

20:49, 4 December 2014

It’s a couple weeks after my birthday now and summer’s coming to an end. I’ve got my exam results back which were pretty decent and I’ve been accepted into Bellerbys College which Conor unfortunately isn’t going to. He didn’t have the grades for it but I blame him for pratting about all the time in lessons and revising the night before his exams so it ‘stays in his head’.

Instead, he’s off with Alex to Brighton and Hove City College. He’s taking Music, Business and Filmmaking. The only thing he’s taking seriously is Music. There’s no way I can talk him out of it and believe me, I’ve tried. Alex chose to go to that College mainly because Conor was going and those two are two peas in a pod. They even took the same courses except Alex chose IT instead of Music.

We’ll still see each other all the time as we live around the corner from each other. It’ll just be like going to different schools. Lois, Leila, Liv and Charlotte are all coming to the same college as me too.

The courses I’m taking are Business, Psychology and Law. You wouldn’t think it, right? That’s because I still have no idea what I actually want to do with my life and this seemed like my best option.

I can’t say I’m excited about college at all. Yeah, I’ve had an amazing extra long summer but I’m not ready for it to come to an end. It’s going to be weird not seeing any of the boys around school; Jack, Conor, Alex, Ben and Mike.

So today it’s Friday 3rd September – three days before we start college – and Conor, Jack and I have decided to have a sleepover. This has to be our 40th sleepover during these holidays and that’s not even exaggerating. I love them though. Sleepover’s with the Maynard’s are my favourite.

“Jack, cut that out” Conor snaps, interrupting Jack half way through whistling a song. We’re all in my room at the moment, Conor watching TV whilst Jack and I play ‘guess the song’. “It’s fucking piercing”

“Come on, I was nearly at the chorus then” Jack huffs, continuing where he left off. This is hard. I’m beginning to think that Jack’s making this up as he goes along. It’s something that he’d do just to win the damn game.

“It’s not even a song” I frown in confusion. Although, I can’t say that I’m ‘up to date’ with all the latest songs. I usually hear new ones from Conor when he’s doing a cover or something. You know he has 2700+ subscribers now? Insane, right? People think he’s hilarious aside from having an amazing voice... and good looks. And he’s all mine, baby.

“You’ll get it when you hear this bit” he pauses to tell me before carrying on with his high pitched whistling. I chuckle slightly, listening intently.

“It’s Thank Me Now by Drake” Conor mutters, turning the volume up on the TV.

“Aw, Conor!” Jack and I moan in frustration.

“How was I supposed to guess that!?” I raise my eyebrows at Jack.

“He sang it in concert for god’s sake. Did you watch the performance?” he frowns and I roll my eyes.

That Drake concert we all went to was actually really fun. Although I didn’t know any of the songs (well, Conor made me listen to his whole album the week we were going and in the car on the ride there), we all had a laugh.

“My turn now” I smirk, thinking of the most difficult song I can come up with. I’m half tempted to whistle a load of nonsense just to get his brain thinking.

“Fuck, no” Conor turns around in frustration.

“What are you so heated up about watching anyway?” I frown, glancing over at my small TV.

“It’s about ghosts and shit” he explains briefly, concentrating on the screen. Some people are walking around this mansion in pitch black hunting for ghosts... Genius. Jack and I immediately shut up and watch the screen intently. This is our kind of thing. We’re bored of Paranormal Activity now.

“Are you scared?” Jack whispers, scared to annoy Conor again.

“Not yet” I shrug.

“Same” he nods, scooting over to me.

This is literally all we do for the rest of the night until we’re too tired to keep our eyes open. Exciting...

Conor’s POV

“You did not just blue shell me!” I hear Lucy gasp as Jack laughs evilly. I slowly peel my eyes open to see the annoying fuckers playing Mario Kart on the Wii I’ve just noticed that Lucy has in her room. “Jack, you’re such an asshole. I was going to be first!”

“The whole point of the game is to try and win, dickhead. Suck it up, no one likes a sore loser” Jack smirks. “Let’s play again”

“No! You’ve cheated on every game” Lucy groans, turning off the console. Thank fuck for that. I squeeze my eyes shut and try to get back to sleep but their damn bickering about Lucy being a sore loser is slowly making me insane.

“Would you two shut the fuck up?” I groan, slapping the pillow over my head.

“Yay! You’re awake!” Lucy cheers, practically jumping on me.

“Get off” I huff.

“Morning, baby” she smirks, lying down next to me and smirking up at me.

I can’t look at her the same anymore without thinking about how thankful I am that we’re back together. As cringey as it sounds, I’m happy and that’s literally all I care about. I think we just needed time to sort our heads out which is why it took us so long to get back together.

“Morning” I chuckle. “What time is it?”

“Half twelve. We partied hard last night” she nods proudly, high fiving Jack. I roll my eyes and sit up from her bed that Jack’s just sat on the end of. “What are we doing today then?”

“Fucking hell, I’ve just woken up” I frown, running my fingers through my messed up hair.

“We’ve been up for ages now, Conor. Come on” she huffs.

“Five minutes” I sigh, falling back down onto the pillow.

“No way, I’ve waited two hours for this” she shakes her head, pulling me back up by my arm.

“Okay, okay” I groan, standing up from the bed. “I gotta piss first”

“Conor” she scrunches up her nose.

“Two ticks” I chuckle, making my way to her bathroom and going back into her bedroom two minutes later when I’m done. I feel ten times better now.

“We’ve decided to just go back to ours and get Nando’s for tea or something” Jack shrugs as soon as I step foot into Lucy’s room.

“Sounds good” I shrug, glancing over at Lucy who’s nervously playing with her bracelet I got for her. “What’s up with you?” I smirk, sitting down next to her on the bed. Jack immediately turns to watch TV, leaving us in privacy... well, the best privacy we’re gonna get in this room.

“Nothing” she shakes her head, glancing up at me for a split second.

Lies. That always seemed to be Lucy’s first language when it comes to feelings.

“You’re a fucking bad liar” I raise an eyebrow, leaning back on her bed.

“Conor, I’m-“

Before she can finish her sentence, I pull her back towards me on the bed so she’s resting her head on my chest. She smiles widely up at me before looking back down and sighing.

“I’m just worried” she whispers.

“About what?” I mutter, frowning in confusion.

“Us” she shrugs.

“You’ve got nothing to worry about. I thought we were doing alright” I panic slightly.

“No we are” she nods. “It’s just too good to be true”

I frown slightly and just look down at her fiddling around with those damn charms again.

“This is like, the last proper day of our summer and then we’re off to separate collages. What if we don’t work out?” she huffs, completely ditching the charm bracelet and looking up at me for a response.

“I don’t know, Luce” I say honestly. “What can we do except try?”

“Yeah” she sighs, clearly not getting the reply she wanted.

“Look, I love you so much and couldn’t think of anything worse than this relationship going downhill again. If you love me then you should feel the same and I think that’s enough to confirm if we’re going to work out or not” I smirk down at her, playing with her hair.

“Course I love you” she almost gasps.

I chuckle, “Well then you’ve got nothing to worry about have you?”

She frowns, sitting up completely and turning her body to me.

“Promise?” she raises an eyebrow, holding out her pinky.

“I promise” I smirk, linking my pinky with hers.
