Chapter 127
19:24, 10 October 2014I wake up when I feel something fall on my face multiple times. It doesn’t hurt, it’s just god damn annoying.
“Go away” I murmur to whoever it is. It’s probably Eleanor being the annoying little prick she is.
“I got you breakfast” a male voice tells me. My eyes shoot open and I see Jack stood over me, eating a bag of crisps.
“Can you not eat crisps over me?” I snap. “Or chew with your mouth closed”
“Sorry. I made you breakfast” he smiles, throwing me a bag of crisps.
“This is breakfast?” I frown in confusion.
“Yeah, I slaved long and hard for that”
“Aw, your poor legs had to walk all the way into the kitchen for these? How can I thank you enough?” I say sarcastically, throwing the bag to the other side of the room and collapsing back on the bed. I’m hungover. Suddenly, my eyes shoot open when I realise where I am. “Why am I here?”
“I was wondering when you’d ask me that” he smirks. “You were so drunk so I brought you back here. You clearly can’t remember” he rolls his eyes, jumping into bed next to me.
“I can barely remember anything, Jack” I groan. The last thing I remember doing was sitting with Jack and Eleanor on the hammock and I don’t even remember the conversation I had with them. This can’t be healthy for a 15 year old.
“You don’t remember that game of strip poker?” he frowns in confusion making my jaw almost drop to the floor.
“What!?”
“Yeah. Conor had a right fit and started beating some guy up for looking at you. You must remember the police coming to arrest him?” he frowns again. “Knives got involved and everything”
“Jack, please tell me you’re joking” I panic. If Conor’s been arrested I’m going to... Well, I don’t know. I don’t know what I’ll do with myself.
“No” he shakes his head. “Don’t worry. I’m sure he’ll only be in prison for a year or two” he sighs.
“Oh my god” I gasp, holding my hands over my mouth and sitting up in the bed.
“I’m only joking” he rolls his head back in laughter. I should’ve known...
“Jack” I groan, falling back onto the bed. “What time is it?”
“Eight o’clock” he responds like the hour he just said is a normal time to be having this conversation.
“Why am I awake?” I groan.
“We all are so I figured you could join in with the fun” he shrugs.
“What made you think that?” I sigh, falling back down on the bed. I wanted to spend as much time in bed as possible. They’re practically the rules after having a night out. “Ever heard the term ‘sleep all day, party all night’?”
“Yeah but we’ll have a laugh now, I guess”
“At eight in the morning!?” I shriek. “Jack, I’m too tired to even move”
“Come on, get out or I’ll pour ice cold water on you”
I moan, “Jack”
“Please”
“Is Conor downstairs?”
“Yep” he nods and I can tell he instantly regrets revealing this information to me.
“Then I’m not moving” I stubbornly say.
“Right, let me get the ice” he shrugs, jumping out of bed.
“Okay, okay. I’ll come!” I groan, knowing he’s being deadly serious about the ice. I roll over and do the usual mornings stretch, needing to straighten my body out as my mind begins to function properly considering I just woke up.
I slowly stand up and hold my head slightly to try and stop myself from feeling dizzy.
“You look like a cavewoman” he cringes. I roll my eyes and look into the mirror in Jack’s spare room that I’ve slept in. My hair makes me look like I just licked a plug socket. I shrug and tie it up with the bobble around my wrist.
“Who’s are these?” I frown, looking down at my pyjamas.
“Anna’s. It’s worrying that you fit in them” he frowns. “Thank Conor for changing you”
“He did what!?” I gasp.
He rolls his head back in laughter, “I’m joking. You did it yourself”
“Jack, I swear to god. I’m one ‘joke’ away from turning your nose inside out” I threat, instantly shutting him up.
“Come on then, princess” he says, strolling out of the room. How is he so alive? “The painkillers are waiting for you downstairs”
“You know me too well” I smile, following him downstairs.
“Here” he chuckles, popping one into my hand which I immediately swallow with cold water. My mouth’s dryer than the Sahara desert. “Eleanor and Conor have been arguing all morning”
“About what?” I roll my eyes. It doesn’t surprise me to be honest. Pop them two in a room together and you’re guaranteed a full on heated argument. Even if they’re arguing about a bad of crisps, it will end up with something violent happening.
“He didn’t make her a cup of tea” he shrugs, making me chuckle slightly.
“Lucy” Eleanor cheers as she strolls into the kitchen with Conor on her tail.
She’s an attractive girl, but it’s nice to know that even the most beautiful people still wake up looking like heroin addicts. She also looks like she’s licked a plug socket except she’s just dealing with it and is more hyperactive than me. I look dead and my personality is too at the moment.
They both sit on a bar stool and I look at Conor with a bored expression.
“Oh god, it wasn’t a dream” I groan. Course it wasn’t a dream, I just want to wind him up but he does the exact opposite and smirks at me. I turn away and face Jack.
“Bacon anyone?” he asks, breaking the silence.
“Hell yeah” Eleanor smiles widely.
“How are you so awake?” I frown, turning to her in confusion.
“I’m in Brighton with you lot for god’s sake. What’s not to be happy about?” she shrugs and I smile slightly at how much she actually loves being here.
“You only have today left” I frown.
“Not if I ‘miss the coach’” she winks, using air quotes.
“Oh yeah, my Mum will let you do that” I roll my eyes.
“I have my way of words with Marie” she shrugs. She’s right, she does.
“I didn’t think you were one for getting up early on any morning, never mind a Sunday after a night out” I scoff as I concentrate on Jack throwing bacon into a pan. I think I’ll be sick if I have a piece of that.
“It’s not like I could sleep anyway with you rolling all over me” she rolls her eyes.
“How come you didn’t stay in Jack’s?” Conor frowns in confusion, reading my thoughts. I thought Eleanor would grab the opportunity whilst she could now that she’s here.
“I don’t even remember coming here, Lucy” she shrugs so we all turn to Jack.
“I didn’t want to take advantage whilst she was drunk” Jack shrugs as if it’s nothing.
“Aw! My little brother’s a gentleman!” Conor coos making me burst out laughing. Eleanor’s blushing like crazy although I bet the dirty cow’s wishing he wasn’t such a gentleman.
“Shut up” Jack tuts.
I feel like everything’s back to how it used to be. Like when Conor, Jack, Eleanor and I would hang out before Christmas and stuff. This is how it was. But freaking Conor had to mess things up and now there’s just that little bit of awkward tension between us. I’m trying to put it to the back of my mind but it’s hard to let go of the fact that Conor dumped me in such a harsh way and sodded off with Zac.
“Who wants bacon?” Jack says in an Indian accent.
“I don’t know what accent that was but it sure ain’t when bacon comes from” Conor frowns. “But yeah, I’ll have some”
“Yeah, bet you will” Jack sends him a glare before throwing a couple pieces of bacon on Conor’s plate.
The smell and the look of it is literally making me want to throw up everything I’ve consumed in the past month.
I honestly don’t get it. I get ridiculously drunk knowing full well that the hangover will come eventually, but I tell myself I can handle it. When it does actually come around however, I vow never to drink again for as long as I live. That vow lasts about as long as a sneeze.
It doesn’t really bother me if I know I had a good night the night before but seeing as I can barely remember anything from last night, I’m pretty gutted.
“I’m surprised Ben wasn’t there” I frown in realisation. Believe me, he wasn’t missed.
“He was” Jack chuckles.
“If this is another one of your jokes, Jack, just remember what I told you before” I grit my teeth together, making him laugh.
“No, he actually was there. Even I remember that” Eleanor smirks. I turn to Conor, not quite believing Jack and Eleanor. He sighs and nods.
“He was”
“Oh, he must’ve come late then. Did we talk?” I frown.
“No, he kept his distance” Conor tells me. I have no further questions.
“Here you go, Eleanor” Jack breaks the silence, shovelling some bacon onto Eleanor’s plate. “Lucy?”
“No thanks, I’m good” I nod.
“More for me” he shrugs. “Oh Lucy, I’ve got you something actually”
“What?” I frown as I watching him run out of the room. He comes back in about two seconds later and gives me a card.
“False ID” he smirks, sitting back on his bar stool and taking a bite out his bacon. It’s for the club now that the rules have gotten strict.
“Oh my god, thank you!” I smile, examining it.
“No problem” he says, his mouth full of bacon. I hold my mouth as if I’m holding back the sick that’s about to come up any second.
-
“Sorry we haven’t done as much as you’d probably want to” I apologise as Eleanor pulls her suitcase out of my Mum’s car boot.
“Don’t be daft. I wasn’t expecting a lot. I just wanted to see you all” she smiles.
“Next time you come, there won’t be a day that we’re free” I smirk, meaning it.
“I’m looking forward to it” she chuckles. She actually managed to convince my Mum and Lauren to let her stay another day.
We stayed at Jack’s practically all day on Sunday. Conor didn’t stay with us after he ate his bacon, and I only stayed until 3 o’clock because I was so tired. Eleanor and Jack were left on their own so god knows what happened there.
“I’ll call you later” she smiles, waving as she walks over to her coach. I feel sorry for her having to sit on a coach or 7 hours something, but it has only cost her £5 so who’s complaining? I would be to be honest if I was on that coach.
“Yeah okay, see you!” I wave.
“Bye, Eleanor” Mum smiles, waving her off as she gets on the coach.
I’m gutted that she’s had to go so early. A long weekend with Eleanor just isn’t enough for me. You’d think we’d get sick of each other, living with one another for so long like at Christmas but we never do. We’re so comfortable around each other’s family that it’s hard to get annoyed at one another, or get bored of the other person.
