EPILOGUE

TWO YEARS LATER

"Come on, quick, put this on!! It's gonna be so cold." Niki threw a beanie onto my head, pulling it so far down that it covered my whole face.

I chuckled, fixing the beanie and putting my coat on as he rushed to do the same.

"Why are you rushing so much? It's so dark." I waited, it was the peak nights of winter, very cold, very icy and in general just a rather chilly season.

A knock on the door didn't allow Niki to reply to my comment. I opened the door, since I was already stood before it.

It was Gayoung, or formally known as Miss Hwang. I wasn't surprised at her arrival, after all, we had arranged for her to babysit while me and Niki were gone.

"Here she is." Niki grabbed the hand of our daughter, Yumi. He had a huge grin on his face, slowly leading her towards Miss Hwang.

"Oh! My beautiful child!" Miss Hwang crouched down, arms wide open with a radiant smile as she engulfed Yumi into a huge, gentle hug.

She lift her up as Yumi giggled. I just stared at the two, an irresistible smile written all over my face.

"Alright, alright, take care, goodbye, bye now!" Niki hurriedly rushed Miss Hwang away, slowly shutting the door. I was so confused to why he was rushing so much, and even being so rude.

"Seriously, what is going on." I turned to look at him, he gave no reply, checking the time briefly on his phone and then intertwining his fingers with mine.

We walked out, the cold air greeting us. After every breath, a faint cloud of warm vapour dissipated into the night sky, dotted with families of stars.

I looked at Niki, his cheeks were slightly blushed with a subtle tint of red, he was looking around Jeju. Two years is a while, I suppose. Jeju has changed massively.

Most stores have now a more modern look to them, less of the classic, oriental architecture I fell in love with. Though - majority of them still remain just how I remembered.

The people were still the same, the smiles, the laughter, the stalls with people selling fish. And of course, couldn't forget the haenyeos which I came here originally for. During the winter season, it's too cold to dive, so usually they farm fruit from trees then and there.

It was a prospering community.

As for Saeron? She's long gone. Passing by her house, a light illuminating through the windows, then a few silhouettes, and you could even hear the faint laughter of a family inside.

She'd moved out, left Jeju for probably a good while, right after I announced my pregnancy with Yumi. I suppose it was only for the benefit of her own mental health.

I found it a little funny, how people could turn so evil over a single person, as if many others don't exist too.

I gave a small smile, looking around as Niki dug both of our hands into his pockets, slowly but shortly walking around. It was a peaceful night, quiet and tranquil.

The sky was free from any pollution, only glittered with passionate stars. Even though it was in the minuses too, temperature wise, it felt relaxing. The aroma of baking food from nearby bakeries interlocking with the crisp atmosphere of the wintry winds was a very satisfying combination.

Niki suddenly changed directions, causing us to walk uphill somewhere. It wasn't a tough walk, well, maybe a little, but despite that, we made it to the top. And as we moved closer, I realised this was the abandoned ship that we used to always go to, back when I was only a temporary resident.

I looked at Niki, a little confused to why he'd bring me here. After all, we haven't revisited this place in a good while, especially after Yumi joining us.

He gazed at me back, sparkles shining through his eyes so eagerly, so sweetly. That same signature smile of his brought me back two years ago, when I was a stupid adult, not knowing my actions could hurt people, and him, when he had his beachy, blonde hair along with that teasing attitude he carried everywhere with him.

A slight push of the wind combed through our hair, we just looked at each other for a while, admiringly. Til Niki guided me up to the deck of the ship, I was surprised people still kept it here all this time.

"You remember this?" Niki chuckled, still holding my hand in his warm pocket.

"Are you serious? Of course I do." I replied with a smile, looking around the complete silence surrounding the town. Most of the lights were dimmed in each house, each store, each bakery.

"Can you believe two years have passed, and you were only supposed to be here for twelve weeks." Niki mentioned, staring around the landscape. The moon was full, beaming with a huge smile, radiating on the gentle waters.

He checked his phone, then took my hand out of his pocket, holding my wrists and turning me away from looking at the city. I was so confused to what he was doing.

He continued to check his phone, and I had the biggest urge to just turn around, or ask what he was doing - but did I want to ruin any of his surprises? No.

And then, finally, he looked up at me, a huge smile on his face, his cheeks raised and his eyes barely able to contain the excitement.

"Turn around." He told me, and I turned around immediately, greeted by green, blue, purple swirls painted across the black sky, it was a beautiful sight.

Every colour gently waving in the sky, dancing with such solace and carelessness. I have never seen aurora lights in my life, nor did I expect Jeju to be the place I see them in.

But this sight, this homely city, where the mornings smell of fresh coffee beans, the mornings where the sky is mostly always blue, or the mornings where you see the same people on a mere walk outside.

This was home to me.

After completely being mesmerised by the majestic swirls of colour on the sky, I slowly spun around, wondering why Niki was being so quiet.

I should've seen this coming. I could not contain my smile.

He pulled out a box, already getting down on one knee and opening the box. Despite the darkness, I could see the ring glimmering so eagerly.

"Two years ago, I spent twelve weeks with you. And when you left, it made me realise I didn't see myself living without you." Niki started, I covered my mouth with my hand, tears already forming out of my eyes.

"Niki.."

"It's been two years, and everyday, made me realise that I don't want to just spend weeks with you, or days, or years. I want to be with you every second of our life." He continued, and I was a mess of pure happiness, "So, Yeojin, would you marry me?"

I sniffled, my smile being brighter than the whole moon and aurora lights combined. I odded my head vigorously.

"Are you kidding me? Of course I will." I gave him an immediate hug as he stood up, tightly embracing me and then proceeding to put the glimmering ring on my finger.

I stared into his eyes, my arms around his neck as he held his hands both at the sides of my waist. His eyes sparkled, like they always did, I have never seen a pair of more sweeter, glittering eyes. And I don't want to ever stop seeing those pure, loving pair of eyes of his.

"I love you." Niki pulled into a kiss, an endearing, unforgettable kiss under the rock of the colourful waves behind us.
