The next day...

"Need a spot?"

"Back off Morrison!"

Gabriel added 100 to each side of the bar and layed down on the bench.

"You've got to press three in order for it to count."

Gabriel lifted the bar and easily pressed it three times. He set it on the rack and sat up. Jack nodded.

"Impressive."

"Your turn."

Jack walked over and added 20 to each side of the bar. Gabriel chuckled a bit and watched Jack. He layed down and easily pressed the bar three times. He racked it and sat up grinning mischievously at Gabriel. He shook his head and put 175 on either side of the bar. He layed down and easily pressed it again.

"Are you messing with me Reyes?"

"Maybe."

"Well, the fight ain't over yet."

Jack benched 200 on either side. Then Gabriel benched 250 easily. Jack benched 275 with shaking arms. Gabriel benched 300...easily. Finally Jack attempted 300. He couldn't hold it up. Just as it was about to fall Gabriel grabbed it with one hand and lifted the bar above his head. He stared down at Jack.

"Guess I win...boy scout."

"H-how in the hell Reyes?!"

"Dunno, just happens on its own I guess."

Jack sat up and Gabriel set the bar back on the rack. Jack shook his head in bewilderment.

"C'mon let's go get some lunch."

Today for lunch was sloppy joes. There wasn't much to eat, so Jack and Gabriel didn't end up training. Throughout the day several soldiers, who weren't enhanced kept walking around the facility. There were several cadets that looked worried and rushed about. Jack looked around.

"Reyes, something doesn't feel right."

"You see it too?"

There were several new officials walking around. They were visiting from the US military teams.

"What are they doing here?"

"I dunno, but something tells me that we are going on a mission tonight."

Gabriel was right. That night at dinner almost the whole cafeteria was called to head to the armory. They suited up and grabbed their guns. Gabriel grabbed two shot guns from the wall. Jack looked at him curiously.

"Two of them?"

"Yeah, I'm feeling outrageous."

They loaded into the trucks and headed out. When the door opened there were several onic units in the distance.

"Yes, more tin cans to smash!"

They put on their helmets and ran for cover. They were taking on heavy gunfire. Jack looked out. He knew that they didn't have enough to hold the units back. Ga riel fired several shots taking out two units. More came from behind those ones. He continued firing in fury. Jack shot down several units. All of a sudden Gabriels guard was shot off of his arm. He came in and the guard broke off exposing his coils. Jack looked at him wide eyed.

"Reyes, your coils!"

"It's ok keep firing!"

He turned back around to take a shot when a bullet hit his coils. A pipe burst and blood began to spray out.

"Reyes!"

Jack grabbed him and held him away from the gunfire. He took duct tape feom his belt and wrapped it around the pipe. He was still losing blood and fast. Jack spoke through the com.

"Commander we can't hold them off!"

"The US military should be here with artilary and back up soon!"

Gabriel was fading in and out of consciousness. Jack kept telling him he was going to be alright. He began dragging him back to the truck. Gabriel grabbed his arm and whispered something.

"Jack, just...leave me."

"No! No soldier left behind Gabriel! I'm not going to let you die!"

He finally got Gabriel into the truck. The parametics fixed his coil, but the pipe was still burst. They would have to wait till they got back to base. They finally loaded the trucks and headed back. Gabriel layed in Jack's lap whispering nonsense the whole way back. They got Gabriel to the doctors and they managed to replace his pipe. Jack was waiting for him to wake up. He finally did and looked over to see Jack sitting down next to the hospital bed.

" Hey Morrison. Help me up will ya?"

Jack looked up suprised to hear Gabriel talking, but he was quick to stand up and help him from the bed. Gabriel grabbed at his side and threw his arm over Jack's shoulder. They hobbled to his dorm. Jack got Gabriel inside and shut the door behind him. Gabriel sat on the bed still gripping his side and weasing in pain.

"Reyes what is it?"

Gabriel reluctantly lifted his shirt to reveal a gunshot wound to his side. Jack ran over staring at it wide eyed.

"Jesus Gabriel why didn't you say so before?!"

"How bad is it?"

Jack looked at the wound.

"It's just a through and through."

Gabriel leaned back lying on the bed.

"There should be a needle and thread in the drawer."

Jack opened the drawer in the nightstand and fumbled inside for a needle and thread. He found the wad of thread with the needle in it and strung the needle. He began piercing it into Gabriel's skin. He winced in pain a bit, but didn't move. He pulled the string through and did it again.

"You are so damn lucky Reyes."

"Lucky. You're makin jokes now?"

"I'm serious, Gabriel. You could have died."

"You're right. I was lucky to have you watchin' my back."

Jack looked at him blankly. Gabriel smiled back. Jack shook his head and continued working on the wound. He finished and tied it at the end.

"Not my best work, but you'll live." Gabriel sat up.

"Thanks Jack."

Jack smiled warmly.

"You finally called me Jack, Gabriel."

Gabriel looked at him intimently. They were getting closer to eachother.

"Call me Gabe."

Jack gasped as his lips collided with Gabriel's. It shocked him at first, but went along. He closed his eyes grabbing Gabriel's head. His hair was soft to the touch. He pulled his fingers through it. Gabeiel whispered into Jack's soft lips.

"Besame."

Jack felt Gabriel's hands go to his head and side. He pulled Jack closer. Gabriel broke the kiss for a second, but Jack grabbed his head pulling him back in. Their lips collided and Jack gently sucked on his lips.

"I knew it." Gabriel whispered.

"You knew what?"

"That you were into men."

"Heh, I wasn't.....until today."

Jack kissed Gabriel's neck.

"Oh, you like to go fast too huh?"

Jack smiled into his neck.

"You should get some rest Gabe."

Gabriel sighed in pleasure.

"Say it again."

"Hm, Gabe, you need to rest." Jack said teasing him.

"Fine."

Gabriel layed back down.

"Will you at least stay here tonight?"

Jack sighed and grinned at him.

"Sure Reyes."

Jack took off his jacket and pants and layed down next to Gabriel. In the morning they were both awaken by Gabriel's alarm. Jack woke up forgetting that he wasn't in his own room. He turned over and looked at Gabriel.

"I'm gonna go take my meds." Jack said getting out of bed.

Gabriel nodded. Jackwent back to his room to find a cup with several pills inside. He sighed in relief knowing that it wasn't liquid medicine. He swallowed them with a cup of water and went down to the locker rooms to shower. He turned the corner to see Gabriel about to step into the shower, but was completely naked! Jack felt his face getting hot with blush. Gabriel rurned around and caught his gaze. Jack froze in place.

"Won't you join me Jacky?"

Those words motivated him. He immediately removed his clothes and collided with Gabriel's lips pushing him into the shower. He felt the warm water against his skin. Gabriel's body hit the wall of the shower. Jack positioned his hands against the wall behind him and placed sloppy kisses on Gabe's face. Gabriel grabbed his side and pulled his body against his. Jack gasped when he felt Gabe's rider against his own.

"Doesn't take much to rile you up." Gabe said gasping for breath.

"Shut up."

"I don't know if I like it or not. You seem focused. I like that though."

"I said shut up Gabe."

Jack sucked on Gabe's neck and chest. Gabriel's hands felt the length of Jack's back and the other went through his thin blonde hair.

Gabriel moaned into Jack's ear. He tested his luck and reached for Jack's rider. Jack gasped when he felt Gabriel feeling the length of him.

"You do it better than the girls."

Gabe chuckled.

"I try."

When they got out of the shower and changed they went down to the cafeteria. They were the last ones there. This morning was more of a build-your-own breakfast day. Gabriel made himself a borrito with hot sauce. Jack did the same, but with less hot sauce.

"How do you stand that stuff?" Jack asked.

"Some of my friends in LA made me do stupid stuff like take shots of bot sauce. It wasn't just regular hot sauce though. It was ghost pepper sauce. They gave me a hundred dollars for every shot I took. I ended up getting so used to the stuff that they stopped the trend, because of all the money they were losing."

"Hm. They don't really sound like friends."

"In LA everyone knows everyone. They are more like family then just friends. That was the lifestyle to fit in and survive like everyone else."

They both turned to see a squad leader walk into the cafeteria. She read soldier numbers from a clip board. About 5 of them left. Jack and Gabriel were not called. They finished their trays and went to the lounge. It was quiet today. Not a lot of people were in the lounge. There were two guys at the pool table and one sleeping on the couch. Jack and Gabe grabbed a seat and watched a random football game that was on. Everyone else was training or in their rooms. It was odd though. The only thing you really used your room for was changing and sleeping. Soldiers didn't have to worry about paperwork or anything, so where was everyone?

3 hours later two soldiers walked into the lounge from the armory. Jack and Gabriel looked at them curiously. They looked like they had just gotten back from a mission.

"Where you guys on a mission?"

"Yeah. Apparently the chief needed a bunch of people to go on a last minute mission to a Talon base."

"A Talon base?" Gabe asked. "What the hell does Talon have to do with this?"

Talon was a terrorist operation focused solely on fighting for the freedom of the world.

"The chief should be concerned about the omnics, not Talon."

"Well lately their have been some Talon agents trying to steal stuff from the US military. That's what I heard."

"They just needed a few of us to go in and take them out. They had been killing lots of soldiers, so we came in as backup."

Jack looked at Gabe then back at the soldiers.

"Did the chief say anything about the omnics?" Jack asked.

"Briefly. She cut herself off saying that she couldn't say anymore. I guess I can respect that."

Gabriel looked at Jack then back at the soldiers.

"I can't."

He quickly stood up and headed towards an 'officials only' door. Jack attempted to stop him. They knew that they couldn't go through those doors without a key card. There was a guard at one of the doors. Jack grabbed at Gabe's shoulder.

"Gabriel, you know we can't go in there!"

"I don't play by the rules Jack."

He went up to the guard and attempted to go through the door. The guard grabbed him and pushed him away.

"Where do you think you are going soldier?"

"I need to speak to the chief."

"You know the rules. Buffs aren't allowed to go passed these doors."

Buffs-n. Slang term meaning 'enhanced soldiers'

"I don't care." Gabe spat. "This is important."

"Doesn't matter to the chief, and it doesn't matter to me, so you better back the hell up soldier."

Gabe took a step back and a deep breath in. He stared at the guard.

"I'm sorry about this." Gabe said.

His arm swung back and slammed into the guards face. He flew back into the door and his body hit the ground. Jack stood back shocked and bewildered. Blood painted the floor. Gabriel knelt down and grabbed the guards key card. He looked back at Jack who was still surprised at Gabriel's actions.

"You'll thank me later, Jack."

He unlocked the door and ran down the hallway. He found the room marked Chief's office and opened it. He immediately saw the chief look up from her desk and stare at him.

"What are you doing here soldier?" The chief said confused.

Gabriel started talking, but was out of breath.

"What's going on? Shouldn't we be fighting the omnics...ma'am?"

The chief stood up and quickly shut the door behind Gabriel.

"What do you know about the omnics?"

"All I know is that the world is gonna be in danger if we don't stop them from revolting. Something is about to happen with these omnics and I don't think it's going to end well."

The chief stared at Gabe for a long time. She sat back in her seat and pulled her hands through her hair.

"Reyes, please have a seat. We need to talk."

Gabriel was suprised. The chief didn't call him by his number, but his name. He sat down slowly and listened.

"The world has already gone to war with the omnics. They are making more of themselves and are enhancing their abilities. The world is losing hope Gabriel. They need heroes. Someone to look up to. They need hope."

"Ma'am, what are you saying?"

"I've been trying to put together a team of enhanced individuals who are willing to be that shining star for the world." The chief explained. "You have shown me a tremendous ammount of bravery and encouragment here at S.E.P. I would like you to lead this new team."

Gabriel froze. He stared at the chieft for a long time. Heat began radiating from his body. He stood up and put his hand through his hair.

"I understand it's a lot to process, but..."

"Ma'am, it would be an honor. Yes. I accept the position, chief."

The chief looked down and smiled. She stood up and shook Gabriel's hand.

"You have a bright future ahead of you...Commander Reyes. You can pack your things and leave by tonight."

Gabe chuckled in bewilderment. He liked the sound of being a commander.

"I need you to put together a team of people you can trust to have your back, train, and lead."

"Jack!"

"Hm?"

"Ah, I would like Jack Morrison to be on the team...ma'am."

"Let it be done then. And I should be calling you sir now, Commander."

Gabriel left the office and went back to the lounge with a smile on his face. Jack turned.

"What the hell happened?" Jack asked.

"I've just been promoted."

Jack looked at him confused.

"Promoted, but we're not..."

"Come with me."

Gabriel motioned Jack back to his dorm room and told him everything.

"From now on I will be Commander Gabriel Reyes. Of the elite team, Overwatch."

"Gabe, that's-that's incredible! Congradulations!"

He patted his back and put his hands on Gabe's shoulders. Gabriel grabbed Jack's wrists and looked intently into his eyes.

"Jack, I want you to be on this team, with me."

Jack gasped.

"A-are you serious?"

"Dead ass serious, Morrison."

Jack gasped and stood back. He grabbed at his mind for words, but was too amazed. His eyes went wide as he threw his arms around Gabriel.

"Thankyou! So much Gabe!"

"We're gonna save the world, Jacky. Pack your stuff. We are leaving tonight."

Gabriel started packing everything he owned into one duffle bag. They met the chief down at the air craft bay. She gave them a ship with everything they needed to start their team.

"The military wanted to give tou a full armory and warehouse to start you off with. It's located in Switzerland. Everything you need to start will be on the jet. Here is a folder of some candidates you might want to look into."

Gabriel took the folder.

"Thanks chief."

"I'll meet up with you soon Reyes."

"I never got your name chief?"

"Gabrielle Adawe." She said.

Gabrielle saluted them and left. Gabriel and Jack hopped onto the jet with their bags and started it up. Gabriel felt professional sitting in the captain's seat. Jack sat in the co pilot's seat and watched Gabriel start it up. They were off to Switzerland.
