Chapter 26

I woke up around Rhys arms, the sunlight streaming through his wings. Gawain laid spread out in my arms sound asleep as well. He wouldn't fall asleep and kept trying to climb out of his crib, so we brought him here, where he finally went to sleep.

That's when the Itching began. It started slow at first, but then it gradually got worse. To the point where it woke up Rhys. "Feyre what's wrong?" "Their coming Rhys. Their close." He didn't even hesitate. No, he simply gave me a kiss on the head and vanished.

No doubt to warm Cassian and the others. No doubt to get everything ready. I knew my part in this. That's why when Madja came into the house I handed G over to her and got ready in my fighting leathers. I winnowed to where Rhys said he was and prepared with the circle at the front lines.

There was no speech. No time to prepare together other than the planning we had done in the weeks before. But Rhys knocked on that wall in my head. Rhys told me he loved me. He told me that no matter what happens he loves me and G and nothing made him happier. He told me that this was all for a reason and he would do everything again as long as he had me and G. As long as he had his family for even a minute. I could only wipe the tears as the first wave of dark clouds rolled over the mountains of Velaris. Elain had moved the city around perfectly and even though these creatures couldn't speak, I swear I felt their surprise.

I told Rhys I loved him back. I told Rhys thank you, for everything. Words couldn't explain how I felt so I crouched into position and brought the magic to my fingertips. Readying the first impact of a war I wished we wouldn't have to face for at least a thousand years. A war I wished G wouldn't have to face. But for him I would fight. For Rhys. For my family.
