Chapter 22

22:55, 24 March 2020

Cassian's POV:

I was walking to the town house when I met up with Mor and Elain who were also heading that way. Walking and not flying because I actually wanted to see my city from down here, a sight I get to see so rarely these days. Elain got back from her visit to Lucien's grave yesterday. I assumed someone told her and Nesta the news Amren sprung on us.

That's actually why I was on my way over. To tell my high lord and lady the news on what I found regarding their mission they sent me on. And maybe a small part of me wanted to see Gawain's wings. If they decide to send him to the camps I would personally over see his training myself. I saw what Rhys went through, what Az and I went through. And I would damn myself if I sit back and let that happen to G too.

I don't know when I started becoming so protective over him, but I almost feel bad for the kid. That boy isn't going to be able to do anything when he's older thanks to his overprotective family. I smirk and turn to Elain. "Elain how was your visit?" She gave me a small smile and replied. "I was nice actually. Peaceful." I was glad she found peace with the whole situation. And I couldn't help but notice the looks shared between my brother and her. I teased him about it once during training and he blushed and went back to practice.

I sigh as I remember the pit stop between me and Nesta. A few months ago, I almost got her to agree to a date. It was only a god damn date, but she stomped on my foot and walked away with a smirk. It was the last time I ever asked her about it. Not because of disinterest but because I've just been so god damn busy. I'll have to ask her again soon, I may just finally break that shell of hers, and I think she's waiting for me to do it. "And Nesta? How is she"

Elain furrowed her brows while Mor tightened her lips but said nothing. "Well if you are talking about the trip, I think she could have cared less." She actually looks mad, and disappointed. I frown. "But right now, I believe she's still shopping. At least that's where she was when I left her." I nodded and thanked her for the information.

We pass through the metal gates when I hear muffled shouts and arguing and then a vase shatter. We all share confused expressions before hurrying to the door. Only after stepping inside do we realize the mistake we made. Rhys stands in front of us, his back turned to us as Feyre throws the shoe in her hand at him. He quickly winnows away but the shoe comes flying at my head. I only have time to duck as it barely misses my head, hitting the door behind me instead and dropping to the ground in a thump. I whip my head to both of them, my eyes wide, along with Mor and Elain who seem to be sharing the same expressions. I can't remember the last time I saw them fight. It must be bad.

It's only a quick second before Feyre spots us at the door and her eyes open slightly with surprise. She huffs air from her nose and quickly stomps towards us grabbing her coat along the way. She marches by us and grabs the door handle, swinging the door wide exposing us to the winter chill. "I'm going out you prick. Don't follow me." She makes sure to look us in the eyes telling us the same message applies to us and then slams the door behind her. We whirl back around to where Rhys sinks into an armchair, hand over his forehead while his fingers rub smoothing circles.

"What did you do now?" Mor asks as we slowly approach. He throws his arms in the air. "Why does everyone assume I did something." No response, from either of us. My brother was in a special mood, curtesy of my high lady, and I did not feel like making it worse. Elain simply stood up and poured Rhys a hefty glass of liquor which he gladly took and drank from, emptying the glass with a few gulps. Elain was quick to refill it, but Rhys left it sitting on the side table untouched.

After a few minutes he leaned back and ran a hand across his face before turning to us. "I may have mentioned something about G and the camps, it started out as a joke, I knew she wouldn't like what I was going to say." He was rambling, it was unnerving to see him like this. "But of course I took it to far, and she was already on edge from the Amren thing and her mark- "he stopped himself as if realizing he went too far, said too much.

He stood up and shook his head, quickly going up stairs to check on sleeping G before coming back to us. "I'm going to find her; can you watch G for me while I'm gone?" Mor and Elain shook their heads along with me. His eyes went glossy as he headed for the front door and as his hands turned the knob he scowled. "Of course, she's there" and left without another word. I swear sometimes their mind to mind, bond talk is creepy.

I stood from my seat and began to stretch my aching limbs, turning to the girls who still sat in their seats, making small talk. "I guess," I began and they both turned their heads to me. "I guess now's not the best time to tell them that no one in the camps have seen any of the dark creatures for weeks." They both stared at me with wide eyes and I could tell they were both contemplating hitting me. Instead Mor chugged Rhys untouched glass of liquor and Elain covered her head in a pillow, leaning back in the chair. I grinned and walked out the door. Off to tell Az then, if he doesn't already know.
