47. Please

Sirens sounding around them, helicopters flying above them. The ground rounded a corner and skidded onto the ground next to it. "Well, they're definitely pissed." Gally breathed out.

"Well, to be honest I would be too if my life's work went missing." Athena mumbled.

"How far are the tunnels?" Thomas asked.

"Uh, maybe 12 blocks from here."

Hearing a cough, they turned their heads to see Minho couched beside a struggling Newt. Athena shifting uncomfortably. 'How the hell is this gonna work now' she thought, putting her head in her hands.

"We can make it." Gally reassured, putting a hand on Athena's shoulder.

"Newt, how are you feeling?" Minho asked crouching in front of him.

"Terrible" Newt groaned, undoing his uniform. "It's good to see you though." he said grabbing Minho's shoulder.

Minho grabbed his hand and nodded his head. Standing up he walked over to the other three. "Hey. How long has he been like this."

"He'll be ok." Thomas reassured.

Athena walked from the three and went to Newt. "hey." she said softly crouching in front of him.

"Hey, love." he said a small smile on his face.

"You're gonna be okay." she said "I ain't letting you go that easy." she said as a tear slipped down her cheek.

"I'll be alright." Newt said, wiping the tear from her cheek.

"I love you." Athena said, as she kissed Newt's palm that rested on her cheek.

"Te quiero." he replied with a smile, causing a few more tears to fall from her face.

"Hey, Newt." Thomas said walking over, "Come on, bud. We gotta get you up. Let's go." he said as Thomas pulled him up.

"Woah, woah,waoh." Athena said grabbing him and steadying him as he fell forwards.

"You okay?" Thomas, checked.

"yeah. " Newt mumbled.

"Why are you helping us Gally?" Minho questioned "I put a spear through your chest."

"Yeah. Nobodys perfect, man." Gally replied, patting him on the shoulder and standing up.

Minho and Thomas carrying Newt, Athena and Gally at the front, they all flinched as an explosion sounded from the walls of the city. "We were supposed to take down WCKD, not the whole damn city." Gally said as they stared at the explosion.

"Guess that's why they made me do it." Athena said giving Gally a side look.

"Gally, come on." Thomas said.

"Hey! Stay low! Stay low!" Gally warned as they continued to move through the city. Police lining up right next to them. "Damn it!"

"What are they waiting for?" Minho asked.

"More like who." Athena corrected. As an explosion sounded close by. A crowd yelling in the distance.

"We gotta go!" Gally said as the street turned into a warzone.

"Come on. Let's move." Thomas said.

As they turned a corner, Minho, Newt, Gally and Thomas walked by but before Athena could and the explosion stopped her in her tracks as it happened before her and behind the others.

"Thea!" Minho shouted.

"You guys go! I'll go another way!" she shouted. The guys following her orders.

"Brenda, you there!" Thomas said as they hid in a shop, through a walkie talkie.

"Thomas, i'm here." she replied.

"Shit! You okay? We're not gonna make it."

"Wait, what are you talking about?"

"Just take the others. Get everybody out, while you still can."

"No." she replied.

"Brenda."

"I'm not leaving you. Okay? So forget it."

"Even though you should."

"Thomas, don't worry. I'm coming to you." she exclaimed through the device.

"What are you talking about?"

"Our ride's here! Just look for us near the tunnels."

As the door to the berge opened they saw the sight of Vince, Finn and Jorge. "Vice? Finn?" Fry questioned.

"Hey, it's good to see you too." Finn sassed.

"Yeah, I know. I picked up a couple strays." Jorge laughed. "Let's get out of here alright?"

"We're not done yet. Thomas and the others are still inside."

"Well let's go get 'em" Vince said.

"Crap! Crap Carp!" Athena exclaimed as she ran through the city trying to avoid the chaos.

Suddenly coming to a halt. A searing pain in her stomach. "Oh! Not now! Not now you little shit!" she exclaimed leaning on her hand against a building.

Before she could do anything else, she threw up onto the ground. Emptying her stomach. Twice.

"Vas a ser mi muerte." she said, trying to regain herself.

"Newt, we're almost there." Gally informed.

"Just leave me." he groaned. Becoming weaker and weaker.

"Okay, that's them. We gotta go." Thomas said after they saw the berge fly over them.

"Go without me." Newt protested as they tried to lift him up. Only stopping as he threw up black saliva from his mouth. Black veins started to cover his face.

"Minho," Thomas said. "You gotta run ahead, grab the serum, and get back to us as fast as you can. Minho, go."

"He's right. I can cover you." Gally added.

Grabbing Minho's hand, Newt looked him in the eye. "Thank you. Thank you, Minho."

"Hey, just hang on. You hear me? Otherwise Thea will kick both our asses." he said, making Newt form a small smile. Him and Gally soon taking off.

Newt's breathing became more and more struggled, as if something turned in his brain, he started breathing more angrily. Everything around him is a blur.

"Hey! Hey! Newt! Hey!" Thomas shouted, bringing him back to reality. "We're gonna try this okay? We gotta move now. Let's get you up, come on."

"No. no. Thomas!" Newt protested, as he pulled something from under his shirt and over his head. "Just take it!" he shouted. Thomas listened and grabbed the thin silver chain and a diamond ring connected to it. "Give it back to Thea." he said panting. "Please. Please, Tommy. Please."

"All right." he said putting it in his pocket and zipping it up. "I need you to give me everything you've got. For Athena okay. You and me. Right now. Let's go. You ready?"

"For Thea." Newt breathed out as Thomas pulled him up.

The two struggled their way through the chaos of the streets. Avoiding gunfire and explosions with every step.

"We're almost their Newt. stay with me." Thomas said as they walked through a deserted platform station. "Newt, no, no, hey!" he exclaimed as Newt's body started to tremble on the ground.

"Thomas?" Teresa's voice sounded through the microphones. "Can you hear me? I need you to listen to me. I know you have no reason to trust me. So trust Athena. She was the one that realized first. And you know that. But I need you to come back. Thomas, you can save Newt. Athena was right. There's still time for him. There's a reason Brenda isn't sick anymore. It's your blood. Do you understand? She isn't sick anymore because you cured her. All you have to do is come back."

As the microphone cut off and the lights turned off, the emergency ones turned on. Turning round he was met with a stood up Newt. Newt's back turned to him.

"Newt?" Thomas said warily.

Turning round to look at Thomas, he saw Newt's once chocolate brown eyes, pitch black and his veins matching. Black saliva falling out his mouth.

"Newt?" Thomas repeated.

Retaliating, Newt jumped at his friend, growling inhumanely trying to get to him. Thomas quickly dodging the attack causing Newt to fall to the ground.

"Newt? Newt, it's me. It's me." Thomas cried, as Newt stood right back up and went for him again.

As rolled over and over, finally getting Newt off him a wave of Newt came over the Crank. "Tommy, kill me!" he begged.

"Newt, I'm here." Thomas said softly.

The Crank soon returned, tackling Thomas to the ground. Newt straddling Thomas as Thomas held his arms away from him as Newt tried to bite or claw him.

"Newt, please!" Thomas pleaded. "Please!"

Once again another wave of Newt overcame the Crank, "I'm sorry, Tommy." Newt apologised, stopping his attack "I'm sorry."

"It's okay." Thomas reassured.

The wave almost coming to an end. Newt quickly grabbed the gun from Thomas' holster and loaded it and pointed it at his head. "NO!" Thomas exclaimed.

As the shot fired a weight was lifted off Thomas' body. He looked to the side of him to see Athena had pushed newt off him and the gun on the floor beside her. Newt panting against the floor.

"Thomas. Go." Athena commanded.

Thomas slowly stood up, "Go! You promised!" she shouted at him but not moving her gaze from Newt.

Thomas quickly pulled the chain out his pocket putting it in Athena's hand which she instantly put round her neck. And Thomas followed orders and ran back to WCKD's building.

"Don't make me do this Thea." Newt pleaded. "Just kill me."

"I can't do that." She said tears falling from her eyes.

The Crank returning he ran at Thea, who blocked out the fact that it was Newt and just imagined it as any other Crank, and dodged his running and punched him in the face causing him to fall to the floor.

As Newt slowly stood up he pulled a knife out from his belt. "Newt!" Athena warned.

Before she could say anything else he slashed the knife towards her. Causing her to jump back, loosing her footing she fell onto the ground, Newt climbing over her plummeting the knife towards her chest. Using all the strength in her mixed with adrenaline she held the knife at bay.

Newt growling, and screeching. Using her foot she kicked Newt off her and onto the floor beside her, grabbing the knife from him and in her own hand, she climbed on top of him like he just did to her. "Newt." she warned but he continued to bite at her. And try to kick her.

"Please." he said, another wave of Newt appearing. "If you ever loved me. Please, kill me." he said, making her eyes soften and more tears fall.

The wave of Newt once again was short lived, managing to bite her wrist, her screaming in pain, knowing it was his only option. "I'm sorry."  She did it.

The last thing Newt saw was the woman he loved screaming at pain he caused. And then. All he saw was darkness.
