So It Begins
06:02, 4 April 2024The cold rain poured on the soldiers of both armies. The orcs charged to the walls defended by Elves and their arrows.
The orcs that had not fallen and were able to reach the city walls, set up ladders and began crawling up the sides.
The elves and the men drew their swords and the battle continued on the city wall.
Aragorn fought with bravery. He knew his love was watching over him. He knew that a chance of surviving was low, but it was a risk he was willing to take.
And when the orcs destroyed the wall that protected the city, the fear in the Rohan soldiers and elves grew. Everyone fought bravely against the orcs sent from Saruman. They fought for their people and their beliefs.
They fought with bravery and nobility. And when some of the soldiers fell, they were welcome by the White Witch into the afterlife.
"Aragorn fall back to the keep! Get your men out of there!"
Aragorn shouted his orders to his men. He told them to go back to the keep. They fled from the walls and back to the keep. But so many fell, including the general of the elves, Haldir. And when he fell into Aragorn's arms and breathed his last breath. Aragorn sighed and looked up to the sky. It gave his courage. He set Haldir down and fought the orcs that ran his way.
The gates were being swarmed with orcs and the men did not think they could hold for any longer.
"I need some time!" Theoden shouted.
"How long do you need?!" Aragorn yelled back.
"As long as you can give me!"
Aragorn snuck through a door and crawled along the wall with a plan to sneak up on the orcs from behind. Gimli followed him. "Oh! We can take him," Gimli whispered.
"It's a long way," Aragorn said to him. Gimli glanced over Aragorn and looked at the orcs banging on the doors and trying to get through.
"Toss me," Gimli said. "I cannot jump the gap. You'll have to toss me." Aragorn nodded and grabbed Gimli. "Oh wait," Gimli shakily said. "Don't tell the elf."
"Not a word," Aragorn promised. Then he picked up Gimli and threw him over the gap and into the crowd of orcs. Gimli fought the orcs with his axe, pushing many off the side into the deep.
Aragorn shouted as he jumped the gap and landed at the dwarf's side. They protected the gates and slayed many orcs by themselves.
More ladders were placed against the wall, however, allowing even more to climb over.
Theoden and his men worked on barricading the gate. Aragorn and Gimli were still on the other side.
"Aragorn!" Legolas shouted from on top of the wall. He tossed down a rope and Aragorn grabbed onto it. Then he picked up Gimli and Legolas and some other men pulled him to the top of the wall.
The orcs were winning. The men and elves were being defeated. They had no choice but to fall back. The men quickly ran inside into the keep.
Inside the caves with the women and children, was where the men hid. The orcs banged on the doors but the men barricaded it and guarded it.
"Is there no other place the children and women can go for safety?" Aragorn asked.
"There is one passage. It leads in the mountains. But they will not get far. The Uruk-hai are too many," the general replies.
"Send word for the women and children to make for the mountain pass," said Aragorn. "And barricade the entrance!"
"So much death," Theoden muttered. "What can men do against such reckless hate?"
"Ride out with me. Ride out and meet them," Aragorn requested. "For Rohan. For your people."
Theoden had to think. But in the end, he agreed. His confidence grew and they allowed the orcs to break through the doors. The king and his men rode their horses through the group and out of the caves.
It was sunrise and a new sense of confidence came over the men as they rode their horses through the hundreds of orcs and slayed away.
And to the east, and Gandalf had promised, was he and the soldiers he retrieved. Theoden's nephew, Eomer, was in the lead, ready to fight for his people. There were hundreds of them.
They rode on their horses to the Uruk army and joined the soldiers of Rohan.
And with their bravery and skills, it was a victory for Rohan. For the orcs ran into the forest of Fanghorn and were destroyed by the Ents.
