19:30, 11 January 2020The entire car-drive to the hospital, Jin had softly been talking to Hoseok. He was asking him all sorts of questions to make sure he was still awake. The medics had asked some questions about what happened, but nothing Jin said really helped to clear up why Hoseok had passed out yet another time.
When they arrived at the hospital, Jin had to leave Hoseok with the medics. They went into a room where he would be examined, and Jin had to wait outside. For a moment, he refused, but Hoseok had whispered to him.
"Our Hobi is strong."
So now Jin was waiting on one of the chairs outside the examining room. He'd been waiting for a long time, but during his wait he was texting with Hoseok's parents. He was unsure whether or not they had heard about their son's passing out in the past week, but he knew they would want to know about it. He only told them what was necessary; Hoseok had passed out and the doctors weren't sure why.
"Jin-hyung."
Jin looked up from his phone and saw the five other members standing there. Namjoon was looking fed up, while the youngest three looked exhausted. Yoongi, on the other hand, was deadly serious.
"Jin-hyung." he said again. "What happened before we arrived?"
Jin put away his phone and got up from the chair, putting his hands in his pockets. "They took him into that room." he said, nodding in the direction of the examining room. "They're trying to figure out what happened. Trying to see if he's okay."
"He's not okay." Yoongi said, a little firmer than necessary.
"Hyung..." Jimin said, glancing at Jungkook and Taehyung. They'd been crying.
"I'm sorry." Yoongi muttered, looking away.
"What did the doctor say?" Jin asked, looking at Namjoon. "Any news of the results?"
Namjoon looked angry, but he nodded. Why would he be angry then? Jin thought.
"He said he has an iron deficiency. They call it anemia."
Jin frowned. Iron deficiency...yeah, he'd suspected something like that at first, but that wouldn't explain frequent passing out even after Hoseok had started taking vitamins and eating and sleeping especially well. It wouldn't explain why the boy had been throwing up and feeling sick.
"That...alright...but did they find out what caused it?" Jin asked further.
Namjoon's lips formed a thin line and all of them knew he was trying his best to stay calm.
He shook his head. "That's all they said." he said through gritted teeth.
"But iron deficiency is very common. I know tons of people who've had it. They would just be dizzy often, but it's nothing as bad as this..." Jin said, still rather confused.
"I hope they find out more here..." Jimin said softly.
"They better." Namjoon growled.
"Hyung, please." Jungkook softly whispered at him.
Then, the doors of the examining room opened and all six heads turned to the doctor who walked out of it. The doctor held a concerned expression on his face, which he obviously tried to hide. He miserably failed at that, though.
"Are you here for Jung Hoseok?" the doctor asked.
Everyone nodded.
"I'll need to talk to you and Hoseok. Please follow me."
The doctor walked into the room Jin had seen them take Hoseok to. They all followed him inside, having different reactions to seeing Hoseok in a hospital bed with an IV to his arm.
Namjoon balled his fists, the angry look still in his eyes. However, his eyes became teary. He hated to see his friend like this. He hated the fact that his friend was sick. Hoseok didn't deserve any of it.
Jungkook and Taehyung were completely silent, staring at Hoseok with pale faces. Jimin basically had to guide them into the room, or they would've just stood there.
Yoongi and Jin looked sad, but they were in their roles of responsible hyungs. They were going to stay calm and listen to what the doctor would tell them.
"Is he awake?" Jimin whispered at the doctor.
The doctor smiled and nodded. "Yeah, he's just a little weak. He told us his stomach was hurting so we gave him some painkillers. He'll seem a little drowsy."
"Are you sure this is the right time to discuss what's wrong with him then?" Yoongi asked. "If he's drowsy he might not understand."
"I'm smart, don't underestimate me." Hoseok's soft voice sounded through the room. The six boys turned to look at him and when they saw he had a smile on his face, some of them breathed out in relief.
"How are you feeling, Hobi?" Jimin asked, sitting down on the bed and holding Hoseok's hand. "No pain?"
"No pain." Hoseok smiled, his eyes only half-open.
"Alright, I'm sure you'd all like to hear about what we found out." the doctor said after clearing his throat to get their attention.
"Yes, please." Jungkook said, almost desperately.
The doctor nodded and grabbed a few papers from the desk in the room. He held them up and handed the first one to Namjoon, who stood closest to him. Then, he turned to Hoseok.
"We ran multiple tests on you, Hoseok-sii. Even though Seokjin told us you'd already had a blood test, we decided to do one just to be sure. However, it does seem that you have an iron deficiency. This is nothing major, but at first we thought it could be a cause for the dizziness you are experiencing."
The doctor then took the second paper and handed it to Namjoon again, who was reading every single thing there was to read on the paper.
"This didn't explain why you fainted so often, though. Seokjin told us about your healthy diet and sleeping rhythm, so we were very confused as to why you'd faint and vomit. The pain you were feeling in your stomach also seemed strange. Therefore, we decided to run a few other tests. And we did find out something."
Hoseok stared at the doctor, waiting for him to say what was wrong with him.
Taehyung gulped, fearing the worst.
"Hoseok-ssi, you have a virus in your liver. The liver is a detoxification system for your body, but it seems like it's not working properly. That's why you're vomiting and feeling dizzy." the doctor said.
"A virus?" Hoseok asked, his voice sounding a little confused. "Where did I get that from?"
"Could've been anywhere." Jimin said softly, staring at the doctor though his mind was somewhere else.
"Well, not this virus." the doctor said. "This virus is found often in South-America. Have you been there recently?"
The seven boys looked at each other in shock.
"Y-Yeah, we had a concert in Brazil." Jin said.
The doctor nodded, writing it down on the remaining papers in his hands.
"So, what's next? The virus needs to be killed, right? Will medication help?" Yoongi asked.
"We still need to figure out exactly how long the virus has been attacking his liver," the doctor replied to Yoongi, "because without knowing how much damage it has done and where in the liver the damage has been done, we can't decide how to treat it."
"But it's treatable?" Jimin asked.
"It is." the doctor nodded.
There were six deep sighs of relief.
"However, it's best if he stays here at the hospital for a while. Even after the tests. That way we can monitor his progress."
"Of course." the six of them nodded.
Hoseok had been rather quiet. He'd moved to sit up in his bed - Jimin had helped him - and he had listened.
"Are you okay, Hobi?" Jimin asked him softly.
Hoseok nodded, but the action made him feel dizzy. Still, he smiled his bright, characteristic heart-smile at the boy. "Yeah, I'm good. Gonna be just fine."
"Right." Jimin said, smiling back at him. "The doctors will make you all better."
