10:36, 15 October 2023The day of Jisung's departure arrived, and he woke up early, eager to begin his adventure. He had already packed most of his belongings the night before, but he double, or maybe triple-checked everything once more to make sure he hadn't forgotten anything important.
As soon as he was done, he headed to his parents' room to let them know he was ready to go. They were both sitting at a table, sipping on their morning coffee, and reading the newspaper. Jisung hesitated at the door, but his parents quickly noticed his presence and motioned him to come in.
Without wasting any time, Jisung excitedly told them that he was going to visit Seungmin in LA today. His parents listened carefully, but the excitement in Jisung's voice was enough to put a smile on their faces. They knew how long he had been waiting for this trip, and they wanted him to have the time of his life.
However, they had their concerns. Their 17-year-old son would be embarking on an international trip alone, and that made them nervous. They didn't want anything to happen to him while he was away from home, across multiple countries, and time zones. But they couldn't say no to him. Seungmin is a really close friend of his, and he travelled just to see Jisung as well.
Jisung noticed the worry on their faces, and he quickly moved to ease their fears. He told them everything he had planned, from his flight details to his accommodations and transport arrangements once in LA. He reassured his parents that he had enough money and that he would be contacting them regularly, so they always knew where he was and that he was safe.
"Thanks, Mom and Dad," Jisung said, his voice laced with gratitude. "I promise to stay safe and keep in touch with you throughout my trip."
His parents nodded their heads, their expressions still worried but apprehensively proud of their son's independence.
"Just be careful, Jisung," his dad said, looking at him with a serious expression. "We trust you, but it's a big world out there, and we wouldn't forgive ourselves if anything happened to you."
"I understand, Dad," Jisung replied, feeling a pang of guilt in his chest. "I promise to be careful and not take any unnecessary risks."
"Good," his dad said. "Oh, and don't forget to bring back some souvenirs for your little brother." he pointed to their little dog, who was wagging his tail.
"That goes without saying," Jisung replied with a grin, feeling a little lighter with their conversation.
„And no American boys, Jisung! Seungmin is enough," his father joked around, and made Jisung flustered. „Dad!"
Jisung's mom hugged him tightly one last time as he stepped out of the door, wishing him a safe trip and a good time. Jisung took a deep breath, feeling the excitement bubble inside him. He couldn't wait to see Seungmin and explore a city that he had only seen through pictures and movies.
In the end, his parents reluctantly agreed to the trip, albeit with some trepidation. They hugged him tightly, wishing him a fun and safe adventure. They reminded him to be careful and to keep in touch as much as possible.
As Jisung left his house to start his journey, he felt a mixture of excitement and nervousness in his chest. It was the first time he was traveling this far alone, and the experience was new to him. Still, he couldn't wait to be reunited with Seungmin and explore the beautiful city of LA.
„I'm on my way to the airport! See you tomorrow Seungmin!" Jisung typed to his best friend, hopping into the taxi, which drove him to the airport. „Take me to the airport please."
Han Jisung arrived at the airport with his heart pounding and his mind racing. He paid the taxi driver, clutching his bag tightly as he watched the car disappear into the swarm of vehicles. Taking a deep breath, he turned to face the throngs of people that surrounded him. It was a dizzying sight - bustling crowds, bright lights, and the constant hum of chatter and activity.
For Jisung, it was all a bit too much. He was used to the quieter pace of life back at home, and the overwhelming noise and chaos of the airport was a stark contrast. He felt slightly out of place as he wandered through the crowds, scanning the signs and announcements for his flight details.
As he made his way towards the check-in desks, he felt a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach. He had come here alone, leaving behind his family and friends to make memories in an unfamiliar place. It was both scary and exciting at the same time.
Jisung took a deep breath and trudged onward, determined to make the most of this new adventure. He checked in his bags, went through security, and settled into a seat near his boarding gate, watching the other passengers as they milled about. Some of them were on business trips, others with their families on vacation. But Jisung was here all alone, embarking on a thrilling and uncertain journey.
He let out a heavy sigh, feeling both anxious and exhilarated by the prospect of what lay ahead. But no matter what, he knew he had to keep moving forward.
As Jisung stood in line waiting to check-in for his flight, he couldn't help but overhear the argument between two English-speaking travelers behind him. Apparently, they were debating about having to throw away their drinks, since they hadn't finished them before heading to the airport.
Jisung's English was quite good, mainly due to years of reading and writing books, so he understood them perfectly. As he listened to the two males bickering, he couldn't help but turn around and watch them with an amused face.
They seemed so preoccupied with their argument that they didn't even notice Jisung watching them. He tried to contain his laughter, feeling a little guilty for eavesdropping on their conversation.
In the meantime, the line slowly moved forward, but Jisung was still distracted by the English-speaking travelers and their petty bickering. He wondered how often these little disagreements occurred in airports all over the world.
As he finally reached the check-in counter, Jisung couldn't help but smile at the irony of the situation. Despite being a successful author with plenty of fans around the world, he still found himself stuck in line, listening to strangers argue over something as trivial as an unfinished drink.
But maybe that was the beauty of travel - seeing how different people from all walks of life could come together, even if it was just in a crowded airport.
Jisung felt a sudden burst of generosity and decided to offer his own drink to the two bickering English-speaking boys. He stepped out of the line and walked over to them, chuckling at their surprised expressions.
"Here, take mine," he said, holding out his half-full bottle of water. "I haven't opened it yet and it would be a shame to let it go to waste."
The boys looked at each other, still in shock at Jisung's sudden approach, but they quickly realized the kindness behind his offer. They gratefully took the water and thanked Jisung in Korean, their accents clearly revealing their Australian heritage.
Jisung laughed and started chatting with them in English, making them even more surprised. Not many people in Korea spoke English, especially not fluently like Jisung did.
They asked him how he had learned to speak English so well, and Jisung shared his lifelong love of reading books in English and how it had helped him learn the language. They talked about their travels and interests, and before they knew it, the line had moved forward considerably.
Jisung could have easily stayed there for hours talking to his new English-speaking friends, but he knew he had to get back in line to check-in for his flight.
„Hey Jisung-ah! where are you flying to?" the older Australian said, before Jisung left. „Meeting my best friend and attending a fanmeeting in LA!" he said, as the two Aussies shared a glance. „What?" Jisung asked, but before the two could answer, it was Jisung's turn to the check-in.
„Gotta go! Nice in meeting you Felix, Chan! Safe flight!"
As Jisung continued on his journey, he couldn't help but reflect on how a simple act of kindness had led to such a delightful conversation. He made a mental note to always be open to meeting new people and spreading positivity wherever he went.
He hoped that another people like Felix and Chan will walk across his way again.
