Chapter 12: Ties That Bind

* Jay and Melissa went back to work on Monday and happy to be at work. Hank and everyone were happy to have Erin and Xander helping them. With the cases they were getting hit with it was something.

Melissa was proud to see Amber sitting where Nadia sat and answering the phones for them. She is helping Amber to get into the police Academy. *

Melissa: Good Morning one and all!

Amber: Good Morning!

Hank: Good Morning!

Jay: Good Morning * holds a box of doughnuts and random pastries. *

*Melissa brings the huge tray-like box lid full of different Starbucks coffee cups to the coffee room and places it on the table.

Jay places the pastries down on the other side of the table with the doughnuts. Then they both come out to the bull pen and talk to everyone.*

Melissa: Jay and I want to thank you all for helping us move into our new place.

Jay: So since you didn't let us while you were helping us we brought you your coffee order.

Melissa: with a whole bunch of doughnuts and pastries.

Hank: you two did not have to do that were family.

Antonio: we are here for each other.

Melissa: we just want to show you we appreciate your help.

Jay: we love you guys.

Adam: I sense a big Melly sized hug coming.

Melissa: get over here you goofball.

Adam: you gonna hug me too Jay?

Kevin: boo and Jay we love you too!

Hank: alright call it in for a group hug attack Jay and Melissa!

* Jay and Melissa hug everyone. What touched Melissa was Amber hugging her. Melissa was moved to tears by what Amber said. *

Amber: Melissa, I have been meaning to tell you this.

Melissa: what is it Amber? * smiles*

Amber: Thank you for helping me and never ever once giving up on me.

Melissa: I do it because I truly care. You're a good person.

Amber: You always was in my corner.

Melissa: I'm always gonna be in your corner.

Amber: I just want to say thank you and I won't let you down.

Melissa: I have every faith in you that you wont let me down.

* They worked hard that week no cases thank goodness but a lot of paperwork to do. Thanksgiving was that week.

Melissa couldn't wait to see her family her dad would be home and home for good. She was going to pick him up at the airport Wednesday with Jay.

They then we're going to drive straight to South Bend after taking Angel to their place to change and they could grab their things they were going to stay the weekend in South Bend.

Mouse was gonna head down there right away after he grabbed Gretchen from work.

Erin and Xander were gonna beat them down there to talk with Melissa's mom and grandmother.

Melissa was powering down everything and then left work with Jay. They went straight to Ohare to pick up her dad. Melissa was so excited to see her dad. She knew his gate.

Her and Jay walked hand in hand together inside the airport after parking. Once they got inside Melissa and Jay stood near her fathers gate. They talked while they waited. *

Jay: You need to chill babe.

Melissa: My dad comes home to stay!

Jay: * smiles* I would do anything to keep that smile on your face forever if I can.

Melissa: * smiles and kisses Jay* Anything?

Jay: * smiles kissing Melissa back* Anything.

* Melissa looks at the time and smiles her dad would be coming out of Gate D any minute now.

She and Jay watched as people walked out of the gate and it felt to Melissa like forever till she saw her dad. She smiled and ran over to her dad.*

Melissa: Papa!

Ángel: Mi Princesa!

Jay: * He walked over right away and greeted Angel* Welcome home sir!

Angel: * looks at Jay and let's go of Melissa. He smiles when he replies to Jay* Sir?

Jay: * Nods* Yes.

Ángel: * shakes his head gently* I think you have been dating my daughter long enough to call me dad.

Melissa: Papa!

Ángel: * looks at Melissa* Im serious. I approve.

Jay: * smiles and nods and hugs Melissa's dad* Welcome home dad.

Angel: thank you son* smiles*

Melissa: Come on papa! Let's get you to our place.

Angel: I can't wait to see your place.

Jay: It's really awesome!

* Angel places his hat on Melissa's head he has been doing that since she was little and she left her dads hat on her head.

They all walked out of the airport and to Jay's truck and then headed to Jay and Melissa's place. Once Jay and Angel got all his stuff they didn't let Melissa carry a thing.

Melissa unlocked the door to their place and let Angel walk in and he smiled. He looked around and then back at Melissa and Jay. *

Angel: This is a beautiful place.

Melissa: It's huge daddy!

Ángel and Jay: There is potential for the future.

Melissa: don't you both do that to me! * Laughs*

Jay: Dad and I talked about this a lot.

Angel: Yes we did.

Melissa: * Smiles* The two most important men in my life actually get along.

Angel: you didn't make that easy in the beginning Mia!

Melissa: I did it to Rebel.

Jay: She told me stories.

Angel: Jay, did Melissa tell you about the time she lied and said she was spending the weekend at Gretchen's house and instead-

Melissa: * cuts off her dad*-Daddy! Don't you want to freshen up?

Angel: * looks at Jay* we will talk we have the whole weekend to talk!

* Angel goes to freshen up and be ready for the day. Melissa and Jay talk.*

Jay: *laughs* ohhh Babe, your dad and I are gonna bond even more.

Melissa: * looks at Jay* Just know the Melissa he tells you about is no longer me.

Jay: * laughs and whispers in her ear* You're rebellious still in a different way!

Melissa: * blushes* Stop that!

Jay: * pulls Melissa closer and kisses her* I love you.

Melissa: * smiles and wraps her arms around Jay kissing him back.* I love you too.

Angel: * smiles seeing Melissa so happy with Jay* Alright you two lovebirds.

Melissa: * breaks the kiss looking at her dad* South Bend it is.

Angel: Yes indeed*

Jay: * chuckles when the kiss is broken*I'll grab our stuff.

Melissa: I can grab my stuff.

Jay: Oh alright.

Melissa: I want to help you.

Angel: Jay, she is like her mother and grandmothers very independent.

Jay: oh I have learned.

Melissa: I want you and I to be equals we share the walk of life together.

Jay: * smiles* I want that too.

Melissa: You're my partner in life and at work and my best friend and the love of my life.

Jay: We're always going to have each others backs without question.

Melissa: Exactly.

Angel: You two have an intense connection.

Melissa; I told you dad.

Jay: I told you too dad.

Angel: * Smiles*

* They head out to Jay's truck Melissa still has her father's hat on, Jay smiled and thought about if she ever would wear his hat when he came home.

She looked at him and smiled at him and then helped Jay put her dad's stuff and their stuff in the truck.

It was so early in the day they had plenty of time to make it to South Bend and Mouse and Gretchen would be meeting them there. Melissa's childhood home had plenty of room.

The house had several guest rooms. On the way their to South Bend they all talked and listend to music Jay and Melissa told Angel stories about what kind of cases they have been catching lately.

Angel and Jay every now and then shared a look to communicate with eachother in a way that only they knew. Melissa had no idea what was to come New Years Eve and New Years Day.

Melissa was so excited when they pulled into her childhood home. She was so ready to spend time with Jay and her friends and family.

SShe was thankful for everything she had in her life. She had her family and her work family.

She then looked at Jay and smiled and then looked at her dad and smiled when Jay parked the truck and then she unbuckled and hopped out of the truck.*

Melissa; Jay, You're meeting my Dad's parents too.

Jay: Nice!

Angel: My father was a Ranger like us and a high rank general like me.

Jay: Wow the stories he has.

Angel: I am excited to meet Mouse.

Jay: Yeah he is my best friend we did several tours together.

Angel: Melissa speaks highly of him.

Jay: * smiles* Yeah they have a bond too.

Angel: He calls her Melly Bean!

Melissa; Papa! Don't use that nickname only Mouse can call me that!

Jay: Everyone has nicknames for her.

Melissa; Yeah and only the person who gave me that nickname can use that.

Angel: * chuckles* Princessa you're so silly.

* Melissa laughs and walks to the door and unlocks the door and opens the door to see her Mother rushing over to hug her and Jay and her father.

Melissa and her mother share a long hug. Melissa's mother hugs Jay and he hugs her back. Meissa's mother hugs and kisses her father.

Melissa goes looking for her grandmother. She looked at her mom concerned. She then hears Erin and Xander laughing. She nods they are in the kitchen.*

Melissa; I am going to put my and Jay's stuff in my room and then I shall go find Erin and Xander and Ita.

Raquel: Mia, I am so happy Erin is here.

Melissa; She is excited she was coming here too.

Raquel; Xander is cute but not as cute as Jay!

Melissa; * Looks at Jay and Smiles.* Yeah I know I am lucky!

Raquel: You are mia.

* Melissa grabs Jay's hand and leads him to her childhood room. He smiles and looks around and then looks on the wall and sees all her awards from ROTC and then her Diploma from High School, ROTC and Police Academy plus her stats for both on the wall.

Melissa places her stuff on the mini sofa by the window and Jay places his stuff next to hers. Then She looks at him and he gently pulls her close to him. *

Jay: Wow those stats are no joke.

Melissa; * looks at the wall and shakes her head.* Eh! No big deal.

Jay: * Laughs* It's impressive.

Melissa; Thanks! * Kisses Jay and gently breaks the kiss and leads him to the kitchen.* Come on let's go hang with Ita.

Jay: When am I going to meet your other Ita and your Ito?

Melissa: Tomorrow silly.

Jay: Oh travel time?

Melissa; they live four houses down across the street.

Jay: Do they know about me?

Melissa; Yes they are excited to meet you.

Jay: * smiles* Think they will like me?

Melissa; They will love you! Trust me!

* Melissa and Jay head to the kitchen and Melissa's grandmother is teaching Erin and Xander how to make a dessert she is making.

Then her grandmother looks up and sees Melissa and Jay. She comes over and hugs them both happy to see them both. *

Sofia: Melly! Jay!

Melissa; Hi there ITA!

Jay: ITA!

Sofia: You ready to learn how to cook Mio?

Melissa; Ita?

Sofia: Oh please he is calling your father dad and calling your mother mom he better call me Ita and I better call him Mio!

Melissa: Si Ita!

Jay: I am ready to learn whatever you want to teach me Ita.

Sofia: Good come on Mio.

* Sofia and Melissa and Melissa's mother and Father all end up in the kitchen with everyone and they are cooking together.

Laughing and having a good time Sofia wanted a big dinner since so mnay people were going to be in the house that evening and the whole weekend.

The doorbell rang and Melissa's mother ran to answer the door everyone was helping Ita in the kitchen and slowly bringing food to the table.

Melissa saw it was Gretchen and Mouse and she ran to the door and hugged them both. Melissa and Jay introduced Mouse to her Mother Father and Ita.

They were so happy to meet him. Gretchen they had already knew from Melissa's childhood.

Gretchen right away brought Mouse to the kitchen to help Ita bring the rest of the food out. Melissa and Jay helped Melissa's parents set up the table.

Then everyone slowly sat down at the table and then Melissa's mother and Father spoke before everyone ate dinner. *

Raquel: I am so glad we can all be together.

Angel: It is nice that Melissa has wonderful people in her life.

Raquel; Who cares about her and loves her?

Angel: Who add to the potential of her future.

Raquel: Who just add value to her life.

Angel: I want to especially thank Jay for being so wonderful to my Princessa.

Raquel: Jay, You make our daughter so happy and for that we thank you.

Angel: Erin, Gretchen, Mouse and Xander Thank you!

Raquel: You truly are wonderful friends we are thankful for you being apart of our Melissa's life.

* Everyone smiles and begins to eat and talk and tell stories. They enjoyed talking and hearing about Melissa and her life in Chicago.

They loved getting to know everyone. It was so nice to see Melissa so happy and that she was finally at peace.

Once dinner was done they Melissa and the girls help Ita put the dishes and food away.

Angel and the boys were drinking Scotch and talking trading stories Laughing and Angel was happy to know Mouse and Xander and Jay even more than he knew them.

Jay was enjoying himself. Raquel came into the kitchen and then saw the girls cleaning the kitchen and she smiled taking out the dessert Ita and her made.

Melissa was so happy it was one of her favorites it was a strawberry shortcake. The girls were told to bring a piece of dessert to the guys.

Melissa and the girls did just that, Melissa and the girls walked into the living room to see the guys all laughing with Melissa's dad trading stories and war wounds.

Melissa walks over to Jay and the girls follow suit walking to their guy and handing them the plate with dessert on it and sitting next to their guy. They then joined in the conversation.*

Angel: Mi Princesa!

Melissa; Hi daddy! Hi Jay and Mouse and Xander.

Mouse: Hi Melly Bean!

Angel: Mouse how did you come up with the nickname for my Princesa?

Mouse: Well her nickname is Melly and she laughs she is Detective Giggles at the precindt.

Melissa; Trudy calls me Detective Giggles or Giggle bean sometimes it depends on which mood she is in.

Mouse; Right, So I thought oooo Melly Bean!

Angel: So you encorperated two different nicknames.

Melissa; Yeah he did. * Smiles*

Gretchen: He has yet to have a nickname for me.

Melissa; trust me he didn't come up with Melly Bean overnight.

Erin: Hey Dad!

Angel: Yes Erin?

Erin: How good does it feel to be home permanently?

Angel: It is nice but at the sametime it is kind of scary.

Melissa; Because of the flashbacks?

Angel: that and just realizing I missed so much.

Jay: Melissa told me that the only thing guaranteed to us is now nothing is promised after.

Angel:* Smiles* That is cause I told her that.

Melissa: Well it is true papa.

Angel: It will be nice to not miss anything.

Melissa; Mama is so happy you're home.

Angel: I know she missed me a lot.

Melissa; I did too.

Angel: I know

Jay: Would you ever do another tour again?

Angel: I would make one expection.

Jay: Really?

Angel: Yeah if you go with me Jay.

Jay: Really?

Melissa; Why papa?

Angel: I would want him to go with me to make sure I come home again.

Melissa; Papa you're not going anymore.

Jay: You let her talk to you like that dad?

Angel: Yes I have to because she is my Princesa!

Jay: Plus she is the boss as well.

Angel: No her mother is the boss.

Melissa; Papa mama and I and Ita are the boss!

Angel: See Jay?

Jay: I know I get the same attitude.

Melissa; * Looks at Jay* I don't hear you complaining.

Jay: * Laughs* Cause I don't, It does not bother me.

Melissa; * Kisses Jay.* Good!

* Everyone eats dessert and talks and then Melissa is cleaning the kitchen with her mother and Grandmother singing in the kitchen and Jay comes to find her and Angel is right behind him.

Gretchen and Mouse and Erin and Xander are looking for a board game to play when Jay and Melissa join them at the table.

Angel notices how Jay looks at Melissa with adoration. Angel smiles watching Jay walk up behind Melissa and hugging her he smiles watching his only daughter happy with a man he approves of and even gave permission to marry his daughter.

Angel remembers when his daughter had to stand on a chair to help clean the dishes and the counters.

He remembers all the times he spent talking to her when she was little in this very kitchen.

He is so proud of her. He hears Melissa's laugh the loud laugh that fills the room cause her and Jay are being goofy.

Jay and Melissa remind him of Raquel and him when they were the age that Jay and Melissa are now.

Raquel turns to see Jay and Melissa acting like she and Angel when they were the age that Melissa and Jay are now.

She sees her not-so-little girl in the kitchen a grown woman and finds a man that she loves and is so happy.

She can't believe how happy she is to see her only daughter be so happy and she is happy she gave Jay her blessing to marry her only daughter.

Sofia smiles thinking about Edwardo how much she misses him and how much she would love to have him see their only grandaughter be so happy and in love with a man that she knows Edwardo would approve of.

Melissa and Jay forget they have an audience and are still being goofy together and then once they are done with the dishes they turn around to see everyone staring at them. They laugh and then break the ice.*

Melissa; Sorry.

Jay: Yeah sorry.

Raquel: It reminds me of Angel and I when we were your age.

Angel: I was thinking the samething.

Sofia; It made me wish Edwardo was here so he could see the man his only granddaughter has fallen in love with and would approve.

Melissa; * smiles* Aye ya Mama y papa y Ita!

Jay: * Smiles* Mi amor no les digas que dejen de ser tan felices como nosotros de que estemos juntos. ( My love don't tell them to stop being as happy as we are that we are together. )

Raquel: Hija Mia, no me dijiste que Jay habla espanol perfectamente. ( my daughter you didn't tell me that Jay can speak Spanish perfectly)

Melissa; Mama Jay tambien puede hablar otros idiomas. Era un guardabosques del ejercito que realizo varias giras.( Mom Jay can speak other languages as well. He was a ranger in the army that did several tours.)

Jay: Si Mama, es verdad, puedo hablar otros idiomas. ( yes mom it's true I can speak other languages.)

Angel: Mi Princesa, te ves muy feliz con Jay. Prevo muchas cosas buenas para ti y el futuro de Jay. ( My Princess you look so happy with Jay. I foresee so much good for you and Jay's future.)

* They all left the kitchen and then headed to the table. Raquel and Angel and Ita bid the group goodnight and told them not to stay up too late tomorrow was a busy day.

So they smiled and nodded. They played the game called trivial pursuit it was movies and pop culture edition and Jay and Melissa were tied with Gretchen and Mouse.

Erin and Xander were not caring that they were losing they were happy to be playing and soon the group got tired and then put the game away and cleaned up the tabel and headed to bed.

Tomorrow was a big day and they wanted to help all they could and so Melissa and Jay lay in her bed and talk all night.

Mouse and Gretchen lay in the bed in the guest room and talk till they fall asleep.

Xander and Erin talk till they fall asleep. Jay and Melissa were happy to be in the place they were in.

Jay couldn't wait he had Christmas Eve and Day to get through and then his surprise for Melissa could happen he was so excited.

He wanted to ask Melissa to marry him right then and there but he didnt.

Morning came and Melissa and Jay were cuddled close together Jay woke up first and smiled it was Thanksgiving and he wanted to love on his girl.

He gently placed a long deep kiss on her lips and gently let his hands roam her body.

Melissa wrapped her arms around Jay as he gently pushed her to lay on her bed.

The kissing went deeper and Melissa's hands roamed gently under Jay's shirt up and down his chest and up and down his back and the sides of his body.

Resting under his shirt on his back. He smiled into their kiss she smiled into their kiss as well and then they gently broke the kiss and then looked at eacother.*

Jay: Good Morning beautiful.

Melissa; Good Morning handsome.

Jay: Happy Thanksgiving!

Melissa; Happy Thanksgiving My love.

Jay: I know it is still dark out but I was wondering if?

Melissa;* bites her lip* You're bad honestly.

Jay: I can be quiet can you?

Melissa; I can be quiet I just choose not to be quiet.

Jay: I am still in celebration mode of us living together.

Melissa; Trust me we are gonna celebrate Sunday night I got it all planned out.

Jay: Erin and Xander are coming over.

Melissa;* shakes her head gently* Monday night they will.

Jay: I need you now.

Melissa: I need you too babe.

* Jay without warning just pulls Melissa with him to sit up and he gently lifts her tank top up and off and tosses it on the side of the bed and then smiles when he feels Melissa lift his shirt up and off and tosses it next to her tank top.

He gently lays her back down on the bed and then their lips meet again and she moans very softly into his ear as she feels him trail kisses down her neck hitting the spot that always gets her to moan.

Jay gently moves his hands down her body seeing her boobs exposed to him always did something to him.

He gently grabbed onto her shorts pulled them down and off and tossed them onto the pile of clothes they were making on the side of her bed.

Melissa gently pulled down Jay's shorts and off Jay brought his lips to hers and they kissed and then he trailed kisses down her body.

Melissa reacted the way Jay thought she would but she was so quiet having her moan so softly was still a turn on he thought it wouldn't be but it was.

Jay then with his teeth gently pulled Melissa's panties down and off and tossed them on their pile.

Nothing was separating them they were going to be skin-to-skin. Melissa reaching out for Jay caused a smile.

Melissa tried to take advantage of the fact she and her boyfriend at the time had the house empty only to discover her father came home and caught them when they were about to have sex.

Jay: I do want to ask you to marry me.

Jay: I do have a proposal planned I will tell you that.

Melissa; * bites her lip and looks at Jay* Jay, You don't have to tell me.

Jay; you need to know how much you really mean to me and never forget it.

Melissa; You mean so much to me too Jay.

Jay: Without you as my Best friend and partner at work and in life and being the love of my life and my roomate, life is just meaningless without you.

Melissa; * burries her face in Jays neck and can't stop happy tears from falling.* Damnit Jay Alexander Halstead!

Jay:* blinks while laughing and has happy tears fall too.* Hey come out from hiding or I am gonna get you out of there.

Melissa; * Giggles and is still crying happy tears while burried in Jay's neck.* Halstead you're gonna have to come and get me.

Jay:* Chuckles while crying happy tears too he gently cups her face and looks into her eyes.* I got you Gonalez.

Melissa;* when Jay pulls her out from hiding she wipes away his tears and smiles.* I got you Halstead.

Jay: * wipes away her tears as he locks his gaze with Melissa's.* I will always come back to you.

Melissa:* Inhales and exhales locking her gaze with Jay's.* I will always come back to you.

* Melissa and Jay went back to sleep and soon enough it was time to wake up and get the day going. Melissa and Jay woke up and stayed in their pjs Melissa though had one of Jay's shirts on over her tank top. She saw her Ita in the kitchen making breakfast and Sofia hugged her and hugged Jay.

Melissa smiled and began pouring a cup of coffee for Jay and herself. She smiled and Jay smiled it was really good coffee.*

Melissa; Every year for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Day and New Years Eve and Day and other holidays we facetime eachother.

Sofia: You know your tia your mom's sister is coming with your tio?

Sofia: Alright everyone help me set the table.

Melissa; So will I.

* Melissa and Jay set the table and Melissa's father is awake and greets them with a big hug and once the table is set little by little everyone else wakes up and comes and has breakfast.

They say how thankful they are to be together and how now more than ever it is important to keep those you cherish close to you.

They ate breakfast and then everyone helped out in the kitchen. Sofia was happy to see a full kitchen and house.

It made her happy to cook so much food for so many people. Jay could see how happy Melissa was being home how she felt free.

Soon it was time to start cooking dinner and Melissa was so happy that Jay wanted to be around her family. She was happy she had her friends with her and she was with her family. She was happy just because she had all these wonderful things going for her.

Soon after helping her Grandmother in the kitchen, it was time to get ready for Thanksgiving dinner.

She and Jay rejoined everyone and then the doorbell rang and Sofia was encouraging Melissa to open the door.

So she did and then when she opend the door it was not only her Ita and Ito from across the street but her family that was supposed to be in Cuba but had come up to suprise her and everyone.

Melissa: This is Mouse Jay's best friend and army buddy he is Jay's and my partner at work and he is our IT Analyst. This is My best friend Gretchen and Mouse's girlfriend.*

* Melissa's Grandfather Romeo walks up to Melissa and smiles and then hugs her and looks at Jay with a smile.*

* Melissa introduced everyone to everyone they didn't know. She was so happy to have some cousins and aunts and uncles around that she didn't see in forever.

The doorbell rang again and when Melissa opened the door she smiled she saw her Tia Marisella and Tio Enrique. She introduced them to everyone and they all loved Jay.

What was nice to see was the Richards and Matthews Family come over to join them for Thanksgiving.

They had done that since Melissa was a baby and she was thrilled that the tradition didn't stop.

Melissa didn't know how badly she needed this until it was happening right before her eyes. She was happy that Thanksgiving was turning out to be so happy and wonderful.

She only heard Laughing and saw smiling faces. She forgot how good it is just to come home and she vowed to herself in the moment she would be coming home every weekend no matter what. She needed family more than anything.

She was happy to find out that her family that came in from Cuba would be staying even after the holidays with her Ita and Ito and Mother and Father and Ita, They were going to look for a place to live right around the family.

That made Melissa even more happy. Dinner time came and they all sat around the even larger table now and Melissa was sitting next to Jay but on the other side of Melissa was her favorite cousin who they said they were sisters they both were only children.

Angelica: She is like a sister to me Jay.

Jay: I heard you two were never really apart when you were together.

Angelica: It is true.

Melissa; Angelica, any novio?

* The day went by so quickly soon enough the day was over but Angelica stayed to talk to Jay and Gretchen and Erin and Xander and Mouse. She was happy to get to know the people who worked with her cousin.
