Chapter 77

Jax and the guys rushed to the flat that Ashby said Clay was being kept at. They were assisted by SAMBEL. Both clubs weaved in and out of traffic trying to get to the address before something happened to Clay, hoping nothing had already happened.

Jax had never had too many dealings with Jimmy on his own but he know the Irish bastard could be ruthless.

As the clubs got closer to the flat, they decided it was best to park down the street from the flat so that they wouldn't be heard. They were going to need the element of surprise if they were going to try and Jimmy, Mcgee and O'Neil all at once. They knew they wouldn't only get one shot at this and they needed to make it count.

The guys all walked stealthily towards the building that held the apartment. Scanning the apartment numbers, they walked down the corridor until they found 7B. Positioning themselves, they prepared to enter the room. Jax drew back and kicked the knob knocking it from its hinges.Chibs and Happy stepped ahead of Jax and were the first into the room. They cleared the whole apartment, only finding Clay in a chair bloody and unconscious. Someone had tipped off McGee and O'Neil and Jax had a good suspicion as to who it was. His gut told him it had to be Ashby. Not knowing where McGee, O'Neil, or Jimmy were was not the best scenario considering what had been done to Clay. But if there was one thing for sure, Jax knew if he ever laid eyes on the good priest again, he was sure to go to hell because he was going to kill him. Same when he hit his hands on the others.

Sending up a small prayer that Clay was still alive, Jax walked towards clay and life's his shaking hands. Taking his index and middle finger, he placed them on his neck looking for his jugular and hoping there was a pulse. He didn't want to be the one to have to tell his mom that Clay was dead. To Jax's releif, Jax felt a small pulse. At the feel of that small pulse, Jax released a breath he didn't know he had been holding.

"Call a goddamn ambulance." Yelled Jax to Chibs.

"Hang in there Clay. Your going to be ok." Said Jax. Jax kept repeating it. He felt if he kept repeating it, it would be true. Clay has been beaten damn near to death. Jax was sure of the extent of Clay's injuries but Clay was bloody enough that Jax wondered if it wasn't for Clay's hair and his kutte, would he have recognized even him.

"Ambulance is on the way. Should be here in about 15 minutes" said Chibs.

Before Jax could respond, the sound of a motorcycle cranking caught the guys attention. Happy walked over to the dirt smudged window and saw O'Neil trying to escape. Everyone but Jax ran out the door hoping that they could catch the bastard before he made his escape.

"They will get him Clay. They will make him pay" said Jax. Jax sat on the floor beside Clay just waiting for the ambulance. He kept thinking about what would happen if Clay died. How would his mom handle it? How would Tinsley and the kids handle it? How would he handle losing his mom.

Off in the distance, Jax could hear gunfire. He hoped that the guys were able to take out O'Neil for what he and McGee have down to Clay. He would be lying if he said he didn't want to be the one to kill both McGee and O'Neil but right now, he needed to stay with Clay until the ambulance got there.

Jax heard a sound outside of the apartment and walked over to the dirt smeared window to see what the noice was. Peeping out the window, he saw McGee slinking outside of the apartment. Jax reached for his pistol and walked lightly over to the door. Opening it just a crack, Jax peeped out and saw McGee coming back towards the apartment. Taking a deep breath, Jax steeped out. Jax drew down on McGee.

"Stop right the fuck there" said Jax.

McGee's head came up. He stared at Jax while his pistol was in his hand as his side. Jax could see that McGee was weighing his options.

"Don't do it" said Jax.

Everything seemed to play in slow motion. Jax and McGee both raised their arms holding their weapons. McGee fires one shot at Jax hitting him low in the left shoulder. Jax fired a shot that caught McGee right between the eyes.

McGee's lifeless body fell to the floor and blood looked from the exit wound in the back of his head. Needing to make sure McGee was really dead, Jax walked over to him and checked for a pulse. He didn't feel anything.

Jax sat down on the floor beside McGee. He grabbed his KA-Bar knife and with his right arm, began to cut the president's patch and the First 9 patch off of McGee's kutte. Seeing as how McGee was First 9, the club would allow him to keep his kutte after death but he wouldn't be buried as President or recognized as First 9. He also wouldn't receive the full send off that a SON would receive.

When the patches were removed, Jax slowly made his way to his feet and back into the room with Clay. Checking on him, he could still feel a pulse.

Off in the distance, the ambulance could be heard.

"Hang on Clay" said Jax.

The EMT's checked out clay and carried him to the hospital. Jax and SAMCRO and the guys from SAMBEL followed the ambulance to the hospital. They all set in the waiting area waiting to seen how Clay was doing.

After 3 hours of waiting, the doctor finally came out to the waiting area.

"How is he?" Said Jax as he stood

"He's going to be ok. He has a 4 broken ribs, a broken nose, dislocated jaw, a mild concussion, and second and third degree burns up and down his arms that look to have come from a cigar." Said the doctor.

"How soon can he leave?" Asked Jax.

"I want to observe him for at least a few more hours. Then you are free to carry him home" said the doctor.

"Appreciate that. Will be be ok to fly?" Asked Jax.

"I don't see any reason why not" said the doctor.

"Thanks doc" said Jax.

The doctor shook his head and walked away. The guys settled back into the waiting room chairs and waited for Clay to be released.
