Chapter 42 - Final Chapter

Everyone sat in the waiting room of the hospital. Ann was still in a coma and they awaited news about her and the baby. Joe was sitting in one of the chair looking blankly in front of him. He didn't want to speak with anyone. Some people offered him coffee or water, but got no response from him.

Ann's mom sat next to him and was traumatized as well. Losing her daughter meant she was going to stay all alone and she knew she wouldn't be able to do that. Her whole body was shaking as Jazz tried to comfort her.

"It's going to be okay." Jazz whispered to Sophie, causing Joe to nervously tap his leg on the floor.

He hated hearing that. It was the love of his life. Carrying his baby girl. The thought that they may not be okay was destructive. He tried to push it away, but he knew it was a possibility. And it was his fault. He would never forgive himself.

Suddenly Sophie ran into the room, wearing a red suit and a red lipstick. She scanned everyone and rushed to Joe as soon as she saw him.

"I got here as soon as possible." She said, crouching in front of him.

The realization hit him that she was the only person in the room that didn't know about the baby. But at that moment he gave zero fucks. He didn't care about her or her opinion. All that mattered was Ann and Willa.

She got no response from him, which was not surprising. She took a seat on the other side of him and put her head on his shoulder. He frowned as he noticed he felt... nothing. He finally was over her 'spell'. He was done with her.

"She's going to be okay." She whispered.

"Can you all stop saying that?!" He yelled, making almost everyone jump. His voice echoed in the empty room and it was suddenly dead silent.

"I'm sorry." She whispered, moving a bit back. "What happened to you?" She asked noticing the bruise on his jawline.

He looked up at Nick who was there as well, but just as Joe, sat silently in his chair not wanting to speak to anyone. He was dead mad at him, but at the same grateful that he was there.

"Not now." Joe said through clenched teeth.

"Okay." Sophie said, rubbing his shoulder.

Suddenly the door opened and Joe quickly looked up seeing a man in a scrub. He immediately ran to him, a few people following him including Sophie, Ann's mom, Jazz, Kevin and Jinjoo.

"Mr. Jonas?" He asked.

"Yes, that's me." He nodded eagerly.

"Okay, I'm going to start off with saying that they're fine. Both Ann and the baby are stable." Joe squatted down, hiding his face in his hands and bursting into tears. "But she is still in coma. You may visit her, but one person at a time please." He said, leaving the room.

Joe couldn't help the tears that were falling out of his eyes. All the fear and anxiety was washing off of him and he felt as though he could scream. He was so close to losing them.

"She's pregnant?" Sophie said turning to Kevin with a face that showed million emotions.

"Sophie..." He sighed.

"What the fuck?" She grasped her hair.

"Okay, let me take this." Said Jinjoo, grabbing Sophie's hand and pulling her outside.

Joe didn't even catch that. He was too caught up in his thoughts, Ann's mom rubbing his back as she silently thanked god.

They were fine.

_____Ann started to slowly open her eyes, feeling as though her head could explode any minute. She looked around the room and saw multiple bouquets of flowers and colorful balloons. She looked right and saw Joe passed out on a chair in the corner of the room. She groaned, trying to sit up on the bed. Joe immediately snapped out, running up to her bed and grabbing her hand.

"Ann." He said, smiling from ear to ear with watery eyes.

"Hi." She sighed, feeling pain all over her body. "What... What happened?"

"You got hit by a car." He said quietly.

Ann's eyes grew wide as she now remembered the whole situation. She remembered the fight, she remembered her running out of the building and the blinding lights that hit her.

"Willa..." She chocked on the word, scared to know what happened to her.

"She's fine, Ann. You're both fine." He chuckled, kissing her hand.

"Oh my god." She pushed her head back, letting out a small teardrop.

"Everyone's here for you. The whole band, your mum, Jazz, my brothers..."

"Sophie?" She said a little hesitant.

"She was here, but probably not anymore. And I don't care, Ann." He shook his head. "I was so scared that I'm going to lose you." He said, tears building in his eyes again.

"I'm here." Ann smiled, grasping his hand.

"I can't imagine life without you. You're my everything." He burst into tears as got up to hug her. Ann groaned, feeling as though he could break all her bones. "I'm sorry."

"It's okay." She chuckled. He sat on the side of her bed and caressed her cheek. "I love you."

"I love you too." He chuckled while sniffing. "Okay, I'm going to tell everyone you're awake. Do you want them to come here or not now?"

"Hell yeah I want." She smiled. Of course she wanted to see them. All these people were so important to her. They cared enough to sit and wait for hours in a waiting room for her to wake up. And she was more than grateful.

He left the room and not a minute passed before her mom ran up to her hugging her even tighter than Joe.

"Mom, mom, it hurts." She said, patting her back.

"Oh my god, I'm sorry. I'm just so happy you're okay. You have no idea." She said, her eyes swollen from the crying. "I can't loose you too."

"Mom..." Ann gave her a soft smile, taking in her hands.

She looked up seeing all her friends standing around the room, just happy to see her fine.

"Thank you all for being here." She smiled, blowing them all a kiss.

They all talked for a bit, before heading out, leaving only Joe, Ann's mom, Jazz and Jinjoo in the room. To their surprise, one person came back after a while.

"Can we... talk?" Nick said, not being able to look them in the eyes.

"We'll be outside." Jin smiled, gesturing for Sophie and Jazz to follow them.

Nick slowly walked up and leaned against the windowsill, his hands in his pockets. Joe looked at Ann, clenching his fists and Ann grabbed them, trying to calm him down.

"We're listening." Ann said, crossing her arms.

"I need to know everything." He sighed.

"I don't have to tell you anything." Joe scoffed, his frustration rising again.

"Joe." Ann frowned at him. "Can you hide your pride for a moment?"

"I'm sorry for what I said, if that's what this is about." Nick said.

"It's exactly what this is about. I never thought I would hear something like this from you." He said, looking down as he felt the tears coming.

"I was just... shocked and angry. Didn't think about what I was saying."

"Nick, you're my best friend." Joe sniffed. "I thought you'd support me no matter what."

"Come here." He moved closer to him and gestured for him to stand up.

As Joe did, Nick wrapped them in a hug. Joe hugged him back and patted his back. Ann smiled, looking at them. She was relieved that they forgave each other. They're brothers after all.

"Love you, man." Nick said as Ann saw his eyes watery as well.

"Love you." Joe said back with a smile.

"Now tell me everything. From the beginning." He said sitting on one side of the bed as Joe sat in the other.

Ann and Joe described with details everything that happened between them. Their first talk in the conference room, the sneaking around, how Kevin knew all along, the split up, how she found out about the pregnancy and what happened between them when she told Joe and what happened last night.

Ann couldn't help but smile as they reminisced on those memories. She realized how much her life has changed in a matter of few months. This man has changed it. For better. And he was finally all hers.

"Well..." Nick sighed. "Let's leave all that in the past. Right now, it's the two of you and a baby on the way. And I can't wait to meet her." He smiled, placing a hand on Joe's shoulder. "You're going to be amazing parents."

"Thank you, Nick. That means a lot." Ann smiled at him.

"Okay, I'll leave you two lovebirds alone." He rubbed Ann's shoulder, before leaving the room.

"That could've gone worse." Ann chuckled, making Joe smile. "How was the concert?"

Joe frowned. "What do you mean? We canceled it."

"What?" Ann's eyes grew wide. "But... The fans..."

"Ann." He shook his head with a smile. "It wasn't even up for discussion. We all came here and waited. The concert is postponed."

"I feel so bad..." Ann sighed.

Joe was about to say something, but his phone started vibrating. He looked at the screen and then at Ann.

"It's Travis."

Ann sighed and gestured for him to answer it. He did and put it on speaker.

"Hey." He said.

"Hi, Joe. How's Ann?"

"She's woken up and stable." He smiled, taking in her hand.

"Are you with her right now?"

"Yeah, I'm here Travis." She sighed.

"Oh, hey. Look, I know this may be a bad timing..."

"But I'm out of the band?" Ann chuckled. Travis just sighed. "It's okay, I was prepared for that. We were going to tell everyone about it after today's show, so I knew it was going to end like this."

"I'm sorry, Ann." Travis sighed again. "If it was up to me..."

"I know. You don't have to explain yourself. Rules are rules." She smiled at Joe, who had a soft smile as well.

"And congratulations by the way."

"Thanks." She laughed.

"Okay, gotta go. When you get back to Cali we'll do all the paperwork."

"Okay. Bye."

Joe hung up and there was a dead silence between them. She was prepared for that, but deep inside she really wasn't. She worked so hard for that job and she got herself fired. It was important to her, but she knew right now the baby was more than important. She had to start taking care of herself.

"You don't have to stay with me. I know you have a family dinner planned." Ann smiled at Joe.

"Seriously?" He frowned. "I'm not leaving. Even if that means starving to death."

"You're so stupid." She laughed, moving a bit to a side so Joe could lay next to her. She placed her head on his chest and smiled to herself.

All mine.

Jazz and Sophie joined them, informing that Jinjoo didn't want to interrupt and left as well. They sat around and talked for a bit, before they heard a knock on the door.

Ann's eyes widened as she saw Joe's parents, Nick, Kevin, Priyanka and Danielle coming into the room, hands full of platters as the smell of homemade food filled the room.

"What is happening?" Joe laughed.

"Well..." His mom started. "You couldn't make it to our family dinner, so we brought family dinner to you." She said, placing the food on the table.

"Mom, you didn't have to..." Joe said, vividly surprised.

"But I wanted to. Ann is family now." She smiled at her. "And you too, so please stay with us." She said turning to Ann's mom and friend.

"Nice to meet you." Sophie stood up and hugged Denise.

Ann looked at Joe with wide eyes and smile, not believing what she's seeing. Joe smiled and shrugged.

"Welcome to the family." He said as he kissed her forehead.

___The next day after doing some tests, Ann was good to go. Joe stayed the night with her as they were squished together on the small hospital bed.

"You've got everything?" He said, grabbing her bag.

"I think so." She smiled, looking around the room.

"Let's get you home." He said joining their hands as they walked out of the hospital.

She was over the moon. For the first time, she could do what she wanted to do so much. To hold his hand in public without the fear of someone catching it. She was proud to say he was hers. She was smiling from ear to ear like a kid, as they were walking to the car.

"Someone's happy." Joe laughed.

"How couldn't I be?" Ann said. "I can finally tell everyone THAT YOU ARE MY MAN!" She yelled at the hospital parking lot, gaining weird looks from a couple of people.

"You're crazy." He shook his head as he laughed at her. "AND THIS IS MY GIRL!" He yelled as well as they laughed their asses off in front of Joe's car.

"I love you." She said resting her face in his chest.

"I love you more." He smiled, kissing the top of her head.

____They had another concert in New Jersey that night and it was the first concert Ann was going to experience from the audience. She was sad, but at the same time excited to see it from a whole new perspective. She was scared how Priyanka and Danielle were going to take the news, but she was more than shocked how well they were treating her. Danielle kept on saying that she knew from the start, seeing how much Joe talked about her to everyone.

They went to the VIP section and she saw some fans scream and wave at her. They've been photographed outside of the hospital and the rumor of them dating has been going all around the media. She smiled and waved back at them as they settled in their booth.

She had the time of her life, singing and dancing with Pri and Danielle. It was weird to see the whole set happening without her, but Joe didn't seem to be bothered. He kept on staring at her throughout all the songs, just like he did when she was on stage. He even got up to her with a microphone to sing the 'Omg did you hear I'm dating a Jonas Brother? It's so hot!' verse. Everyone laughed and Ann felt like the happiest and luckiest girl in the world.

After "Walls" she knew it was time for the Happiness Begins album and the first song being Rollercoaster. But she heard something else playing. She couldn't wrap her mind around the music, but it seemed familiar. Suddenly she felt Priyanka wrap an arm around Ann and smile down at her as Joe started speaking.

"As you can see, one special person is not on stage with us tonight." He said as all the audience cheered, knowing exactly who he was talking about. "Due to medical issues, she unfortunately had to leave the band. But she's here with us tonight and hopefully will be at every single one of them." He smiled looking at her. "This one's for you."

She widened her eyes, not knowing what was happening. She glanced at Pri, who gestured for her to follow the security guards that were trying to escort her. In full shock she followed them as they guided her towards the stage. As they did Ann heard Nick started the first verse and everything clicked for her.

She locked eyes with Joe as she went up the stairs to the stage, gaining a wink from him. All this time, she thought that song was about Sophie and he wrote that... about her.

Kevin ran up to her and helped her to the middle of the stage. Jin walked up to her with wide arms, hugging her tight. Soon Mark, Gabi and a few other band members joined them in a big group hug. Ann could feel her eyes water as she looked up at all of them. They were her family.

Suddenly they all got back to their places and Joe turned around walking in her direction as he started to sing the second verse.

He took her hand and made her spin around as Ann giggled.

If you're lost on the way, then I'll get lost tooCome back to me, baby, I'll come back to you

He wrapped his arm around her as she hid her face in his chest.

Wherever you are right now, know somehowI'll be on the way like a bat out of hell

She looked around seeing all of the band members singing the chorus.

Heaven knows I'm proud, but I'll turn 'roundBaby, if you stay, then I won't to let you down

Kevin and Nick were standing further down the stage and she locked eyes with Kevin who was happier than ever and than Nick who gave her a smile she found very genuine.

Whatever we've done, whatever we'll doBaby, if you come back now, I'll come back to you

Then she saw all the light going off, expect the ones that lit up Joe and Ann on stage. She saw all of the band going down as they stood in one big line, Joe and Ann in the middle of it. The music stopped and it was just their voices filling the echo in the venue.

She looked up at Joe who was grinning from ear to ear. She shook her head as he whipped the tear going down her cheek and kissed her forehead. Everyone then walked up to them and joined in the biggest group hug possible.

"We love you, Ann. Thank you for making this tour special." Said Nick as they all spread around back to their places. She pouted her lip at him and hugged him one more time. She couldn't believe that he finally accepted her. They are family now, after all.

"We're not going to be the same without you." Said Kevin as she hugged him too. She pulled apart and turner to Joe who stood with a wide smile on his face.

"Joe?" Asked Nick with a raised eyebrow.

He just laughed and walked up to Ann. "Come here."

He said before putting a hand on her cheek and kissing her right in front of everyone. Ann smiled against his mouth and kissed him back as the melody of Rollercoaster started playing.

Nights, flying down the 10, nearly 2 AM

"Happiness begins." He mouthed the last two words of the verse to her. She wrapped her arms around him and hugged him one more time before going off stage.

— 6 months later —

"I'm so full I could die." Priyanka sighed, putting down her fork.

"Same." Ann chuckled. „I loved the pork by the way."

„Oh thank you. My mom's special recipe." She said proudly.

„Why does every mom have a special recipe?" Joe laughed. „Still don't know what your mom put in that lasagna." He said to Ann.

„Wish I knew too." She chuckled, shaking her head.

„Alright, I'm going to clean up." Danielle said, standing up.

„Oh, let me help you." Ann said, trying to stand up.

„Girl, rest. We don't want your water breaking here." She laughed as Priyanka and Denise stood up and helped her instead.

„How are you feeling?" Joe said, placing a hand on her knee.

„Like I could burst any time." She scoffed, looking at her enormous belly.

She was due any day now. It was risky, but they decided to spent Christmas in Tuscany. All of the Jonas family was there and also her mom. She was more than grateful that they agreed to bring her on. She would feel like shit, leaving her alone for Christmas. She knew these were the hardest for her without dad. And she never traveled anywhere outside of America, so she was very excited.

„Wanna go outside?" Joe said.

„Oh yes, I could use some fresh air." She said as Joe helped her to stand up.

Having this big of a baby inside of her was definitely a challenge in most every day stuff, but she was grateful to have Joe around her all the time. He never gave up on the princess treatment, doing everything for her and even giving her a daily foot massage.

They went through the sliding glass doors that led to their backyard area. They had a house just outside of the sea with their own private beach. They sat around the fireplace every night singing and talking till late at night.

Joe grabbed Ann's hand as they walked along to the sea. Ann took off her shoes and started to dip down her feet in the warm water. She closed her eyes and started to spin around, feeling the wind blowing on her face. She was the happiest at that moment. She was the happiest with him.

„You coming?" She asked laughing as she turned around to him.

She immediately stopped once she saw him in front of her on his knee and with a ring box in his hand.

She hold her hands against her mouth as tears started to fill her eyes.

„Yes, this is happening. But please remain calm. Willa is already knocking on the exit doors." He said, holding up once of his hand and laughing.

„How am I supposed... Joe!" She frowned. „You expect me to be calm?!"

„Maybe it was a bad idea." He laughed, brushing the back of his neck as he stood up.

„No, no, no. Jesus, I'm sorry." She shook her head. „That was stupid of me. Please, continue."

He raised an eyebrow at her. „Oh what, did you expect me to have a full speech written for you?"

„Well, duh." She rolled her eyes. „Now I don't know what my answer will be."

„Damn, too bad I have one." He said, taking out a piece of paper out of his pocket. Ann couldn't help but smile. „Sit down."

They sat down on the edge of the sea, the waves lightly crashing into them. Ann closed her eyes and just listened to his voice followed with the sound of the sea.

„If you're reading this, I guess you got to a point where you proposed to her. I'm impressed. This is Joe from the past speaking. I just met you and I'm hooked. I don't know what you think about me yet, but I can see this going some way. I don't know what it is about you, but after the few hours I already know you are my person. Is this weird? Yeah, it's weird. I promise I'm not a psycho. Anyways, say yes to that weirdo. I think he loves you."

Ann pushed her head back and laughed out loud as Joe did too.

„What the fuck is that?" She asked, wiping a tear from her eye.

„I don't know why I wrote it. I just thought you would find it funny." He chuckled, looking down at the paper.

„You are so weird." She shook her head. „You were fucking obsessed with me."

„Still am." He shrugged and smiled.

„Did you wrote one for my funeral as well?" She laughed.

„Getting there." He chuckled. „So... what's your answer? Don't leave the weirdo hanging."

„Yes, yes, yes. Hundred times yes." She laughed, wrapping her arms around him and making them fall down on the sand.

They looked at each other as Joe slowly slipped the ring on her finger. She looked at her hand with the ring and smiled to herself. She looked back at Joe, who had the familiar to him spark in his eyes. Suddenly a smirk painted on his face.

„What?" Ann frowned.

„I think you need some cooling after all this."

„Oh no, no... NO!" Was all she could say as Joe grabbed her waist and jumped into the sea with her.

They laughed, draining their faces from the salty water. Ann swam up to him and wrapped her legs and arms around him.

„Damn, you're heavy." He laughed, gaining a punch from Joe. „Hey, you know what?"

„What?"

„You're mine." He whispered joining their lips into a long passionate kiss.
