Chapter One: Shattered Dreams

Author's POV

The fluorescent lights of the practice room pulsed in time with the pounding bass. Sweat slicked Melody's forehead as she mirrored Bangchan's powerful dance moves, their breaths mingling in the exertion. They were both chasing a dream – becoming K-Pop idols. Melody, a firecracker of energy with boundless talent, had arrived in Seoul from New York a year ago, her eyes sparkling with the same ambition that burned in Bangchan.

Their shared dream had forged a unique bond. Bangchan, the quiet leader of the trainee group, saw a reflection of his own relentless drive in Melody. He'd taken her under his wing, patiently guiding her through the grueling routines. Today, however, the air crackled with a different kind of tension.

The final move of the complex choreography loomed. A high-risk leap, practiced a hundred times before. This time, though, a flicker of hesitation crossed Melody's face. Exhaustion gnawed at her, a consequence of their relentless training schedule. Bangchan, sensing her apprehension, offered a quick, encouraging nod. Trust, their silent pact.

She launched herself into the air, form momentarily perfect. Then, a sickening twist. A choked gasp escaped her lips. Her body crumpled to the polished floor.

Panic surged through Bangchan. He abandoned the routine, a primal scream tearing from his throat as he rushed to her side. Her face, usually vibrant, was etched with a horrifying pallor. Unconsciousness claimed her.

Time warped. The pounding music faded into a distant hum as the other trainees froze, their faces mirroring the terror in Bangchan's heart. He fumbled for his phone, the dial tone a maddening counterpoint to the frantic pulse in his ears.

"Mrs. Lee? It's Bangchan... Melody..." His voice, usually steady, cracked with a tremor he couldn't control. He explained the accident, the words a blur as the enormity of the situation crashed down on him.

The frantic ambulance ride was a blur of flashing lights and sterile beeps. The hospital became a sterile nightmare. Doctors, their faces grim, spoke in hushed tones. A CAT scan. Internal bleeding. Emergency surgery.

Hours bled into days. Bangchan, a pillar of strength for the other trainees, became a ghost of himself. The practiced smile he wore for the cameras as he informed their company about the accident felt hollow. His mind replayed the final moments, the misstep, the fall.

Self-doubt gnawed at him. Had he pushed her too hard? Should he have insisted on a break? The weight of unspoken responsibility settled on his young shoulders.

Melody's parents, notified by the company, arrived from New York, their faces etched with a grief that mirrored his own. He saw the same spark of ambition in Mr. Lee's eyes, a spark now dimmed by fear.

One evening, as the exhausted parents slept in the waiting room, Bangchan found himself drawn to Melody's room again. The rhythmic beep of the life support machine filled the sterile silence. He reached out, his hand hovering over hers, the warmth of her skin a stark contrast to the cold metal bed.

"Melody," he whispered, his voice thick with emotion. "Wake up. We have a stage to conquer."

Tears welled in his eyes, blurring the harsh fluorescent lights. A single tear escaped, tracing a silent path down his cheek. The weight of his unspoken feelings, a mixture of camaraderie and a dawning realization of something deeper, threatened to overwhelm him.

In that sterile room, bathed in the pale glow of the machines, Bangchan grappled with the harsh reality: their shared dream was suspended in a coma, the future uncertain.

The sterile scent of disinfectant clung to Bangchan like a shroud. Days blurred into a monotonous routine of hospital visits, stolen moments of sleep in the waiting room, and the crushing silence of Melody's room. The once vibrant practice room felt like a tomb, the echoes of their laughter replaced by a deafening emptiness.

One afternoon, a familiar warmth broke through the haze. The door creaked open, revealing a worried Jihyo, leader of TWICE. News travels fast in the industry, and the weight of Melody's situation had reached her ears.

"Bangchan," Jihyo started, her voice softer than her usual stage persona. She placed a comforting hand on his shoulder. "We heard."

Following her was JB, the leader of GOT7. His sharp gaze held a quiet understanding. They had both walked the grueling path of becoming idols, and the toll it took was no stranger to them.

The dam broke. Tears, held captive for days, streamed down Bangchan's face. The raw vulnerability in his usually stoic demeanor shook the senior idols. They had witnessed his unwavering dedication to both his and Melody's dreams, the way he'd taken her under his wing.

"It's all my fault," Bangchan choked out, his voice thick with a mix of grief and self-blame. "I pushed her too hard. I should have..."

Jihyo pulled him into a firm embrace. "It wasn't your fault, Bangchan. Accidents happen. We all know how hard you both trained."

JB, ever the stoic leader, spoke with a quiet resolve, "We understand the pressure, the relentless pursuit of perfection. But you can't blame yourself. Melody's a fighter, just like you. She'll pull through. We gotta believe in that."

Their words, though simple, offered a lifeline. The camaraderie, the shared understanding of the demanding life they'd chosen, resonated with Bangchan. He wasn't alone in this.

News of Melody's situation had spread within JYP. The next day, a familiar figure entered the waiting room. It was Jackson Wang, another member of GOT7, known for his infectious energy.

"Bangchan!" Jackson boomed, his voice a stark contrast to the somber mood. He placed a playful arm around Bangchan's shoulder, momentarily breaking the tension. "Heard about Melody. Tough times, man. But you gotta stay strong, just like she would want."

Jackson, known for his optimistic spirit, brought a much-needed spark of light into the room. He shared stories of his own struggles, the moments of doubt, and how he overcame them. His words served as a reminder that even the most successful idols faced challenges.

Days turned into weeks. The once vibrant trainee room remained silent, a stark reminder of the hole Melody's absence had left. Yet, the support system within JYPE held firm. Jihyo and JB continued to check in, offering words of encouragement and sharing their own experiences.

One evening, amidst the monotony of the waiting room, Bangchan stumbled upon a forgotten notebook in his backpack. It was Melody's, filled with sketches and song lyrics, each page an expression of her burning passion for music. A single tear rolled down his cheek as he traced a familiar melody she'd been working on.

A faint flicker of determination ignited within him. He wouldn't let her dream fade. He would keep her spirit alive, not just for himself, but for her. Looking up, his gaze met the doorway where a familiar figure stood - Mark Tuan, another member of GOT7, known for his dedication and work ethic.

"We need to get back to practice," Bangchan announced, his voice firm for the first time in weeks. "Melody wouldn't want us to stop."

The statement hung in the air, a promise not just to himself, but to Melody and the dream they shared. The weight of grief remained, but a seed of hope had been planted. They would continue, carrying the weight of their shared dream, a testament to the unwavering bond forged in the pursuit of their K-Pop aspirations.
