The Lies Between Us

15 – Get Worse

Every girl has their own memory with every boy that made them feel all sorts of things. There's a memory of the tragic heartache and then there's another one that's almost like a fairy tale.

But neither of those two fit in Lisie's unforgettable memory of Tait Kingston.

It was 4am that Thursday morning when Lisie decided to visit Ross in her rock star tour bus. She figured it's been four days since that heady afternoon when she and her costar almost did the dirty. She had texted Soo about her visiting, so she's confident to see her best friends inside when a half naked couple welcomed her upon entering the bus.

She had her hand on her chest shocked to discover Ross and Jacey were back together again in their natural habitat.

"We seriously have to stop meeting like this!" Lisie rolled her eyes just when Ross kicked Jacey out of the bed.

"I am so sorry, Lis. I didn't know you were visiting." Ross apologized. Lisie sighed in relief when she saw her best friend in a cami and shorts. She didn't know what she'll do if she catch Ross actually naked.

"Hey Lis," Jace grunted after recovering from his fall. In fairness to him, he smiled genuinely at her this time.

"Hiya jerk." Lisie greeted him back.

"I'll leave you guys alone." He huffed pulling his shirt from the floor. Both of the girls eyes followed him out the room.

"Ok before you say anything-" Ross got cut off even before she could continue.

"Tait and I almost had sex."

"What!?"

"Both on and offcam."

"Woah-"

Ross didn't know what to say when she saw Lis' eyes glistened with unshed tears.

"I'm so stupid, I acted like a slut." Lis wailed attacking Ross with a tight hug.

"Okay, tell me everything." Ross sighed patting her best friend's back. Lisie started telling Ross everything that happened that day; from the moment she had a sleepless night to that passionate time in his trailer.

"And then the next days after that were weird." Lisie continued.

....

The next day after that was indeed odd.

She and Tait just finished their scenes that involves horseback riding and chasing. She felt awkward alright but she understands that it's part of their job.

She didn't want to be lectured by him saying she's being unprofessional again. Although, Lisie thinks that kind of thing won't ever happen again any time soon. At least she learned her lesson about getting drunk on set is never a good idea especially if she's too attracted to her costar.

"Great work today people!" The assistant director called.

"Thanks," she thanked the staff who helped her get down from her stallion. Her head automatically turned to Tait when her foot set the ground. She saw him meet her eyes, smiled then walked away.

She was thinking of calling him to to ask about acting advice when he just took off.

He was walking with his bodyguard, laughing at something.

After that day, Lisie had a day off and she thought it was a good idea to visit Tait on set. So she went there to support him like any other costars would.

She saw him shooting a scene with Jeremy Cross. It was intense when the two actors showed everyone how good they are at their craft because Lisie could tell it was very convincing. Hadn't there been any film crew, she would believe Jeremy's character was very much out of his head.

She felt goosebumps when it was Tait's turn to deliver his lines.

"Then kill me motherfucker!" Abe shouted under his cousin's mercy. "Coz I'm sure what you're about to know won't let you live a lot longer"

Alarik's deranged eyes became softer for a second. But then his mad laughter followed when Abe told him a secret.

Lisie's attention was interrupted by a gentle nudge on her arm.

"Hi! I got your tickets." It was Rian who was giggling softly beside her.

"Hey!" Lisie greeted back pulling Rian away from the set as to not cause any trouble to the actors.

"I see you're not busy." Rian raised her brow playfully.

"Yeah," Lisie bit her lip. It was her day off but it doesn't really mean her day is completely free. She has a magazine interview right after this and then she'll have to get ready for tonight's fashion show.

"You liar, of course you're busy. Why you're here isn't really hard to figure out." She teased cutely.

"Okay, why am I here then?" Lisie challenged.

"Girl come on, if you're not Tait Kingston's girl yet then I'm kicking his balls."

"You're kicking his balls because I ain't his girl."

"Not yet at least!"

They talked more about fashion when Lisie brought up the topic taking Rian's head off of her love life. It was when they started talking about hot male models that Jim butt in their conversation. Tailing along with him was none other than his best friend and Lis' secret crush.

"What's our best girls doin in a corner when yall can hang out inside our trailers?" Jim suggested innocently making Lisie and Tait blush in sync.

"Hey baby," Jim greeted Rian.

Lisie felt weird seeing the couple hug each other especially when Jim pulled Rian closer to him like no one else is around. Rian cleared her throat trying to pull away but Jim was clingy.

"I was just telling Lisie how excited I am for tonight's fashion show."

Jim rolled his eyes.

"Girls." He sighed but it was obvious he was happy about it since Rian is. "You're coming to that right, Tay?"

All their eyes turned to Tait.

His eyes found hers then he hesitated for a bit. "I'd love to but..."

"Bullshit." It was Rian's turn to roll her eyes. "What's more important than your costar's fashion show?"

Tait's mouth hanged open.

"It's my dad's birthday!"

"How lame!" Rian opened her arms like she's a kid who wasn't given a treat by her parents.

Lisie saw how Jim looked at Tait surprisingly. She looked away when Tait caught her looking again.

"It's okay if he can't come. I mean, I'm not expecting him to..." What she said made the couple feel sad for her.

"I'm sure my man's going to make it at your show tonight." Jim decided for Tait hoping it would cheer Lis up.

"Jim!" Tait complained feeling a bit frustrated.

"I'm sure Mr. Kingston will understand." Jim continues to pry.

"I'm sorry Lis, it's just I've been feeling tired lately..." Tait looked in her eyes directly although it doesn't really feel like he meant his sorry. His apology now was different from the way he apologized that day.

"No, don't say that." Lisie said almost annoyed. "It's not your fault."

Immediately, she felt out of place. Like she's almost regretting her decision to visit Tait on set. She pulled out her phone as if someone was calling her and used it as an excuse to leave.

She didn't like how her emotions were overwhelming her. Normally, she wouldn't think rejection was as bad as it sounds but seeing Tait not wanting anything to do with her beyond being a costar made her upset.

She bit her cheek from the inside to keep her tears from coming when she felt a movement from behind. She stopped on her tracks and hastily turned to look if someone was following her. Lisie thought it was Rian or Tait but no one came out.

She thought about the paparazzis but their location was too expensive for paparazzis to reach.

Thankfully, it was just some teenage fans who wanted her autograph. After that she walked straight to the parking.

When she saw Saint getting out of the car not far from where she is, she felt relieved. She asked him to take her to the nearest bar where she can take off her thoughts away from someone.

But Tait did not show up that night.

The Celine spring/summer limited edition collection was a success and Lisie was praised because she's the face of the brand. She met Jim and Rian after the show and even hang out with them at the after party. And even then, Lisie couldn't make herself enjoy the night.

She was getting a bit tipsy talking with her model friends when something pushed her to call someone.

"Dear, why are you using my phone?" Karla, a brunette model with sharp cheek bones asked.

"Oh my phone's dead. I'm calling my assistant." She laughed in a daze dialing Tait's number. Lisie isn't that drunk yet to not know what she's doing. She purposely borrowed her friend's phone just to hear his voice.

"Hello? Who's this?" A deep baritone voice answered.

Lisie bit her lip. Just hearing his voice made her calm down.

"Look if you're a fan, this isn't healthy."

Instead of answering, Lisie found herself listening intently. Ever since that day he apologized, she started to want his attention...

"Have a good night."

The ring of a busy tone could be heard next through the speaker.

"Good night."

Her model friends teased her that it's probably someone she likes since she got shy after that. She tried calling him again but he didn't answer anymore.

A day after that Lisie met Tait in the parking lot. He was getting his bag inside his car's trunk and his bodyguard was already in the driver's seat. Lisie saw a frown on his face but smiled soon after.

They just finished another love scene that day and compared to the first one they managed to follow the script perfectly. Lisie was getting used to it like she's not nervous to do it with him anymore. She followed Soo's advice that now that she's an actress; whatever she does in front of the camera is her own masterpiece. So she needs to take everything into her own account.

"You did great today." She started feeling a bit uneasy because she realized she just complimented his acting skills after kissing him for the nth time that day. "I mean, you're always great in every scene it's just...I think...I never actually thanked you..." She made a face not sure why she's getting nervous.

"I mean, you're always patient with me. I always get my lines mixed up..."

She bit her lip when he started laughing.

"So you're thanking me?"

"Y-yeah. I'm weird right?" She looked away feeling like she needs to exit.

"No." He disagreed. "I think you're cool." Tait felt the back of his head like he's hesitating to tell her something. "I'm sorry I didn't make it to your-"

"No, no it's fine. I don't think I'll even meet up with you there had you went."

"Yeah."

"I mean, I'll be busy with outfit changes and all."

"Yeah..." He pursed his lip.

"I'm sure your dad's birthday celebration was a lot more fun." She continued but then he didn't say anything.

"I-I should probably go." She laughed awkwardly waving her hand at him.

Tait only nods at her not bothering to make any effort to make conversation. But after only a second, he called her back.

"Hey"

Lisie turned to him, hopeful to spend more time with him.

"Um, Eduard Carter's throwing a party tonight. I think it's his birthday today. Are you coming?" He asked.

"Are you?" She asked in an instant not being shy about it.

He shrugged. "Might stop by." His boyish smile was back. "You should go. Some of our costars will be there. It'll be like great for publicity and all that shit."

"Okay. I'll go."

"Cool."

Lisie was more than excited to go that night. She was looking forward to see Tait even though it's not even his party. The thought that maybe she could talk to him like before made her want to dress up.

She called Saint to tell him they're going out tonight. The guy was utterly confused why his superstar put on a smokey eye make up when he met her downstairs at the lobby.

"Wow, you have a date or something?" Saint inquired.

Lisie cleared her throat tossing her ash blonde hair a little. Her dress was black and a bit tiny.

"I'm going to a party." She answered making his eyebrows raised at her.

"Okay. You ready?"

Lisie smiled and nodded. After a few days of feeling like she's being ignored, she's finally redeemed herself because she thinks she and Tait are going back to those days where both of them don't give a damn whether or not they act like a couple.

She hates to admit it but she doesn't like it when Tait acted cold. For some odd reason, it hurt her and it made her overthink things. If she knew things would be like this after that incident then she really regretted drinking that day.

But, come to think of it, she didn't do that because she couldn't help it. Let's just say the alcohol just pushed her to do stuff that normally she'd stop herself to do but other than that, she also wanted it to happen.

When they reached the place Lisie felt like like a real celebrity. Eduard Carter is a rookie actor but the media wants him crazy. He's not as big as Tait and Jeremy is but still, fans and the press are hungry for him. There was a line of paparazzi outside the place and some celebs were even interviewed.

One chubby guy directed his camera on her and asked her basic questions like what brand is she wearing and what gift would she give to the celebrant.

It was easy but the press always made her feel nervous nevertheless. Something about being famous gets very uncomfortable at times she doesn't know if she'll ever get used to it.

Inside the club, there were already a lot of people. There were popular vloggers, some commercial models and b-list actors hanging around the area. Lisie was trying to look for people she knew when the birthday boy himself found her.

"Lisette Moore, you made it!" Eduard cooed putting an arm around her shoulder. "Where's your beau? You guys came together, right?"

Lisie scrunched her nose smelling the alcohol from his breath. "No we did not come together and no he's not my boyfriend."

"Aw, I'll pretend I believe that." He smiled, his eyes drifting slowly in front of them where a paparazzi was taking a picture.

"You guys close or closer than friends?" The paparazzi joked.

"Shut up and just take the damn shot." Ed suggested confusing the other guy if he's serious or not because his voice sounded serious but his face looked like he was joking.

"So while you're alone here. Why don't I just keep you company?"

"Hmm, not exactly my type of company but what choice do I have."

Ed shrugs. He started leading her to the bar where there weren't much people around since most are in the middle of the dance floor waiting for the band.

"Do you have any model single friends you can set me up with?" He started then pulled a chair for her.

Lisie snickered. "I have a lot. But I don't think I can sleep peacefully at night knowing one of my good friends are dating you."

"Ouch," He acted as if she pierced his heart with a knife.

"I promise I'll be good."

Lisie rolled her eyes. She and Ed had common friends since they're both models. She thought about it and scanned her friends in her head to see who's compatible with him. One girl popped inside her head. Someone who's based in Rome.

"Fine. But if you mess up even just once, don't even think about asking me a favor again."

"Yes!" Eduard cheered. He called the bartender and ordered her a drink. When some guys arrived he excused himself and left. Lisie was about to finish her drink when she recognized someone walking towards the rest room. From the wave of his hair, the way he walks and to the width of his shoulders and back, she could tell it was none other than him.

Tait Kingston was oblivious to the attention she was giving him. But before she could call him she stopped herself because what she saw pinned her on the spot. She felt like there was a huge chunk of mold stuck down her throat when her eyes darted on the girl Tait was following.

Lisie doesn't recognize her but she was the kind of girl someone who'd get pick up on by boys because she's hot. Bleached blonde hair, fair and voluptuous – those kind of girls who's easy on the eyes.

She saw how the girl pulled Tait by the hand making her feelings compromised.

At that moment, Lisie knew there were two kinds of emotions she has to face. One, shes about to throw a fit because some slutty Barbie-wannabe is touching her crush; and second...

Crush is an understatement. By now, she's realized maybe she likes him more than a crush. That if she knew the emotion deep enough, she knows she's about to fall.

Her next actions were a bit bold even to her own standards.

Tait Kingston turned to her when she caught his hand stopping him from wherever he's going. Her heart beat was faster and she felt dizzy because she was running out of head space.

"Lisie?" His eyes were in a daze as he looked at her. His face a bit red from drinking alcohol.

"Wow, you look...damn." He let out a compliment almost ignoring the other girl who was now annoyed because they were being stalled.

"If you wanted to get laid that badly why not get through it with me?" Lisie shook off the voice in her head. If she let it out, she'd forever be haunted by things she'd say out of impulse. She reminded herself why she's not drinking with Tait around again.

Instead, this is what she said.

"I was just...wondering if you've seen Ed?" She asked letting go of his hand. She felt her knees getting weak after doing that. Like she lost something precious and now it's never coming back.

"Oh...um...I think he went outside with some of the guys." He answered dismissively.

"So I see. Thanks!" She smiled without looking him in the eye turning away even before he could see that something was wrong. Before he notice that she's disappointed how things turned out tonight and it saddened her to realize maybe she's just one of those Tait Kingston girls who's not immune to his charms. Because like most of them, she's hooked too.

"Lis, hey wait! Did you come here alone?" She heard him call but she didn't dare look back. She saw Ed by the entrance hall talking to some latecomers. He was about to come get her but she told him off saying she's got some friendship emergency to attend to so he let her go.

.......

"I don't know what to do anymore, Ross." Lisie sobbed. "I know this isn't professional at all but what can I do?"

Ross looked at her friend with concern. She saw Jacey come in after knocking at the door bringing a breakfast table. He settled it down her bed then stood against the tour bus' yellow paneled wall.

"I saw you at Ed Carter's party. I left at around 12am. I think you just came in that time." He mentioned.

Lisie nodded. "I had a tough night."

Jacey frowned then his eyes found Ross'. They looked at each other for a brief moment when he decided to leave the two girls alone again.

"You'll get over it. I'm sure you do." He said ruffling her hair as he makes for his exit. "Call me back when you guys are down to do some baseball."

Ross sighed. "Can you believe we're back together?" She rolled her eyes after he went out.

"At least you guys are okay." Lisie tried to smile. Ross scooted over giving her best friend a tight hug.

"He's just a guy. Tait Kingston too is only just a guy. It may or may not be forever but having best friends is an eternal contract."

"That's true." Lisie sighed. "But I'm still afraid Ross. Because whatever this is I'm feeling for him may get worse than the heartache I felt for Jacey."
