"They made us do all that work for them to just take it" I said in frustration, while Giyu stayed silent "It's fine, we have a new case anyway" I clicked on the files and examined the new case "Another homicide this morning, we will be deployed 2:00 pm" Giyu nods and we go to get our equipment

"Let's get going" an officer tells us while directing us to the cop car

We arrived and look at the scene. We get our gloves and start examining "3 bullets shot, 2 killed, CCTV footage shows the man going north after the shootings, we have been doing a search since noon, but no sign" A cop briefs us in

"It's weird how there are so many homicides with guns nowadays. Last year there were so little" I say to Giyu while he examines the bullets "It's a 9mm bullet and look at this" what Giyu saw surprised me "It's specialized police bullets" he nods while looking at me before I write it down

I call up the headquarters for a list of cops who lives in this prefecture and surrounding prefectures "Nice find" I say to Giyu "Anyone with a brain could've saw that" I frowned "Don't be so hard to yourself" I throw him a playful punch

"Here's the list" I showed the picture to Giyu "It's narrowed down to the people who weren't in morning shift" he nods and takes my phone. He starts swiping on my phone making me confused, but I just shrug it off until I see him have a little smirk

"There were only 2, and I think we know who it is" he shows me a picture of a policeman "How do you know it's this guy" he gives me a cute smile I haven't seen ever "From the footage, he came from the west, then went east, then north. The person's attire is also a white sleeveless and shorts, suggesting he just came from his house, which is from the easy... and also the other one is the from southeast of the prefecture, making it unlikely he was the one" I laugh while still processing what he said "You are silent and antisocial?" I said sarcastically

"We still have to do questioning, unless we get better evidence" he stated, going back to his stone-cold tone and face "But he probably is the one, so let's go back to HQ" I said enthusiastically, it's great to have a genius by your side

"It is probably him" I gave a picture to Chief Ubayashiki "And the explanation is at the back" I pointed at the picture. After a minute he nods and gives back the picture "I've also sent you two more CCTV footage from the area" we nod and bow before exiting his office. Once we left, I gave a fist to Giyu, which we fistbump

After a few hours of scanning CCTV footage. We were able to get enough evidence to say it was Tanaka Haruto, from the police department

At the bus stop, we sat down and talked "Great work" I smiled at Giyu, which he looked down and had the genuine smile he had a few hours ago. "I love doing my job, it's one of the few things I enjoy" he also murmured something else that I couldn't hear, but I didn't ask further

"Why did you become a detective?" I asked Giyu after he stopped smiling "My childhood friend, he was also my partner" he frowned a little making me frown "He gave me this jacket, it's my prized possession" I smiled when he took it off and put it at his mouth

"I also had someone I loved die, she gave me this jacket too" I smiled, trying to cover my sadness from him. It had been 3 years since she died, but I still hadn't moved on. While reminiscing, tears slowly started to form. I was about to wipe it, until he gave me his handkerchief "Thank you" I said after sobbing a little, I coughed and gained my composure

"When you reminisce about your friend, do you also become sad" he nodded, "But it also makes me happy, that he was in my life" his answer gave me new meaning to how I perceived Kanae's death, I had never thought about it that way.
