"Boy I oughtta slap yo ass for leaving without sayin nothing."

Lavar wasn't slow to scold Melo as soon as we walked through the door. It was seven in the evening and Melo and I had just got back from Wingstop after he picked me up from the apartment.

More like saved me.

"Sorry big baller, my girl needed me." A wave of warmth washed over my face and I couldn't hide the smile that was now present on my face.

"You do what you need to do son but now it's time to get back to work, you hitting the weights right now."

I look back at Melo and he threw his head back in distress. I let out a laugh and Lavar drifted his attention on me.

"Hey little Kuzma, sorry but I gotta take this knucklehead to the weight room to get him right." Lavar says and shrugs his shoulders.

"It's fine, I was planning on hijacking his PS4 anyway." I explain and set my bag down at the door.

Melo smacked his lips, "You gone do my challenges on Fortnite for me?"

"Hell naw, Im gone buy a new skin with yo vbucks." I smirked, thinking back to the first time I was in his room.

"Ay, you not finna disrespect me like that."

"What why not?" I ask him making my way through the house and he trails behind me.

"Cuz it if you disrespect me imma have to—" he smacks my butt.

"—clap that ass."

"Ow! what the hell?" I turn around and Melo has the cheekiest smile I done ever seen, revealing his dimple on the right side of his face. His smile was blinding as he continued to showcase his teeth to me, laughing up a storm.

After admiring him for a moment, I roll my eyes.

"Melo!" Lavar yells from the from the other side of the house.

"Hold on big baller!" Melo says and steals a kiss from me before running in the opposite direction.

I shook my head, huffed and continued my way throughout the house.

In the living room, Tina was sitting but she wasn't alone. She seemed to be having a lively conversation with a girl.

The floor creaked in a small spot where I was standing and both of them turned my way.

"Hi, Maya. So good to see you!" Tine waves at me with her prominent hand. Her smile was wide as if she hadn't seen me in years. I was delighted that she was glad to see me. The way she perceived me kind of mattered to me, she was my boyfriend's mother after all.

"Hi Tina, it's good to see you too." I make my way over to her for a hug. The girl beside her sent me a small grin as I pulled away from Tina.

"Hi I'm Ally, Lonzo's girlfriend."

Ohhh, so that's who she was. Damn Lonzo didn't take long to recover from his previous relationship I guess.

Her curly brown hair fell to her back as she gave a white teethed smile. You could barely tell she was wearing makeup but it was there, small hints of highlight glimmering from the corners of her eyes. Even sitting down you could tell she was skinny as hell. Her physique was like any other girl you would see in Los Angles, California: smallish boobs, flat stomach and at least some ass. It was hard to find anything wrong about her because she seemed almost flawless.

But those were always the ones who were hiding something.

"Maya." Short and sweet, I introduced myself. She seemed nice but.. there was something off.

"Ally, let's go-" Lonzo paused as he saw all of us in the living room.

"What's good, Zo." I give him a chin up.

"Hey, M." his attention was towards Ally as he moved his head in a motion so she could get the memo that they were leaving.

Before he left he gave his mom a kiss on the cheek.

"What's wrong?" I hear Ally murmur to Zo on their way out.

"I leave for one second and you talkin to my momma?"

Tina and I both heard him and we look at each other with same expression, wide eyes.

I had a feeling Ally and Zo weren't serious and that was very clear to see. If the way he rushed her out of here wasn't a dead giveaway then I didn't know what was. You could tell he was ashamed that Tina even met Ally.. ~"Someone in the house next to us I can hear them." I yelled into the mic getting up on the bed.

"Chill we hear em." Eli said from the other side of the mic.

"Right what you so loud for." Bronny let out a laugh.

"Yaw need to to chill on my girl Maya. She just trynna keep us notified." This boy named Mikey said.

After I hijacked Melo's PS4, I went on fortnite and got invited to their party. They thought it was Melo and to their surprise it was me. But they eventually found out I was goated and here we are playing squads. I heard about Bronny before but Mikey? I don't know him.

"Right like yaw need to chill on me honestly." I fired back.

"Who need to chill on you?" Melo asked barging in. He was all sweaty, a SmartWater in hand. His biceps, swollen from his fresh workout.

He looked at me as I still stood up on his bed, and I turned my focus back on the game.

"Damn do you know how to knock?" I ask him, the boys on the other end bust out laughing.

"Last time I checked this was my room lil girl."

"He on me y'all!" Eli yelled and soon after, he was knocked.

Bronny tried to get his reboot card but ended up getting sniped, "Shit!" he yelled.

"Watch yo mouth son!" I heard his dad, Lebron say in the back.

Two guys was on Mikey and I finally made my way over to him.

"Hol up I'm finna clutch this." I say. There was only a full squad left so allowed myself to go try hard.

"Let's go!!" I yell and I jump around on Melo's bed.

"What the hell-" Melo said peaking out his closet.

"Bro, Maya you just took the dub!" Mikey exclaimed, fascinated.

"Melo, I just won with 15 kills too."

"Oh that's good, gimmie a hug." He purposely offered a hug because he was all sweaty.

"Ew no! You all gross right now." But he kept coming closer to the bed so I ripped the headset off and hopped off the bed.

"Nigga move!"

"Mn." he shook his head.

"I'll give you a kiss but not no hug."

Our lips connected for a moment but I then pushed him back.

"Go shower doofus."

"You comin in with me?"

"Maybe." I smirk, jokingly.

Of course he took it seriously, "Bet imma start the water now."

He ain't waste no time running his ass to that bathroom.

I snickered to myself walking back over to the game. I stop laughing when I realized that I was still in the party with the rest of the guys.

"Yaw didn't hear anything did you?" I asked, biting my nails.

"We heard everything." Bronny said and I could practically hear him smiling through his teeth. ~"Maya." There was a small faint whisper.

"Maya, baby wake up." I was shaken gently. His chest rumbled from behind me but I tried to block out the noise and snuggle closer to his warmth.

"I think it's something going on." Melo proceeds to say seriously, rubbing my back so I could awake.

Finally, I flittered my eyes open to see his sleepy ones look back at me in the almost dark room, the only light coming from the cracked bathroom door across the room.

4:30 am the digital clock read from his side table.

"What's wrong?" I asked, my voice raspy and tired.  He brung one of his fingers towards his face in a shushing motion, pointing towards the door.

Then I realized there was faint murmur coming from the other  side of the door, "I don't understand how could this happen-" I could only make out a little bit of what what they were saying.

"Terrible, this is terrible." Was that..Tina?

I turned to Melo with a confused look on my face. He gave me a shrug, scratching the back of his head.

Normally, I wasn't nosy but tonight something felt really uneasy. I could almost feel the tension in the air. Call me crazy but it was definitely there.

So I detached myself from Melo and slipped out of the warm bed.

Slowly pulling the door open, Tina, Lavar, and Gelo were in full view.

"What going on guys?" They're heads whipped toward my direction. The terror on Tina's face didn't make me feel any better.

"Y'all good?" I head Melo from behind, his figure hovering mine.

"Maya, there was a fire."

"Oh no. Where?"

"Here in Chino.. at the apartment complex." Gelo answers, sympathy filled his eyes.

Lavar shook his head and got straight to the point.

"Maya, it's Kyle and Madison they were in the fire, they've been hospitalized."
