game day

Space Jam played on the large flat screen television in the apartment living room. A loud ass snoring Melo lied on the couch sprawled out, his head in my lap.

He seemed peaceful and innocent while he was sleeping. His mouth was slightly agape. He slept like a baby to say the least.

As the movie played, my eyes began to get heavy because, I myself, was tired so I tried to move Melo's head from my lap so I could move closer to the arm of the long couch so I could lay down.

But before I could even get up, Melo pulls me into him, supposedly still sleep. My back was now against his chest and his left arm was wrapped tightly around my waist. I could smell his cologne it was a delicious scent. I was too tired to fight Melo on this stunt he pulled so I just let sleep engulf me.

Moments like these, I wish could last forever. I was warm and I was having a good ass dream about eating all of the pancakes I wanted. Random? Yes. But was hungry.

A splash of cold water ruined this.

I rub my eyes viciously and sit up on the couch. I could feel the presence of Melo still behind me.

Two very ignorant basketball players came into view, one with a now empty cup of water and another grabbing onto his knees because he couldn't stop laughing.

"What the hell Lonzo, Kuz." Melo's sleepy voice erupted from behind me. His voice was raspy and hot. I contained my emotions.

"Yeah, yaw play too damn much." I added glaring at Kyle the most. This looked to be his idea, I mean he was the one with the cup in his hand.

It was now 7:34 and I didn't even realize that Melo and I had been asleep for about two to three hours now.

"Yaw was lookin comfortable." Lonzo said.

"Yeah too comfortable." Kyle added in. They were both trying to keep a laugh in until they couldn't anymore.

They were laughing so hard and loud. Ignoring them I get up from my place and head to the bathroom. I needed a hot shower.

____Today was Friday.

The week was finally coming to a close and I couldn't be any happier. My school work was slowly piling up and I was little stressed out so I was excited to this small weekend break to collect my thoughts.

When my parents enrolled me into Chino Hills, I was offered to take advanced classes. I couldn't turn down the offer. I was fourteen when I made the decision that I didn't want the basketball life, of course my parents were a little bummed out but, they wanted me to do my best in life no matter what I wanted to do. My goal was to be eligible to go to any college in the country. I loved taking care of people and I wanted to help others but I was also very passionate about traveling. I wanted to get out and explore. Flint had been such a small place and I want to make up for lost time. When I turned fifteen, I had made a decision. I wanted to go to school to become a traveling doctor. It was a small dream and Kyle always teased me about it, but I didn't want to be something so big. I wanted to help out on the sidelines and keep to myself. I wanted to be reserved.

Here I am now, in Chino Hills, California. Yes things change, people change, but that's just life and I'm finna go along with it.

Today I was going to Gelo's practice game for Summer League and I was finally gonna meet Jaden. That's another thing, summer was coming up and I knew that it would be great to take a step back and look at things and take a nice breather. I had a feeling summer 2019 would be amazing. May was around the corner and that just reminded me that June was right after.

Today for the practice basketball game I was wearing a navy blue tank top with white straps and light wash high waisted denim jeans. I decided to flat iron my hair today which means I had to wake up really early. I almost forgot a necklace and the golden M chain was right in front of my so I just put that on. The light through my blinds was really good so I snapped a few pics and I just had to post at least one.

The notifications started rushing in.

A knock on my door made me look up from reading the comments on my recent instagram post.

It was Kyle.

"Hey, M you ready? Let's head out." I nod my head and I grab my nike windbreaker just in case I get cold.

Throughout the whole car ride Kyle and I just talked and we talked a lot just about life in general. With his basketball practice and me drowning in my studies, we haven't been able to do that in a little while and it felt great.

We arrived at the basketball arena. Kyle told me we would meet up with Lavar, Tina and whoever else was coming. This was Gelo's first practice game of the season and he said it didn't matter if we were there or not. Secretly I knew Gelo wanted all of us there. Especially Jaden. We finally made it into the arena and I spotted the Ball family and Jaden.

Jaden and I have talked over the phone and commented on each other's posts but we never met in person so I ran over to her and she ran halfway. When we first talked I knew we clicked. We got along so well and I feel as if she's an older sister to me.

"Oh my god Jaden!" I say.

"Maya! I'm so happy to see you. You look amazing!" She says looking at me. I love when girls hype other girls up. We need more of that in the world.

"Says you! You're so gorgeous!" I laugh.

Melo walks over, "Okay y'all needa chill. You being too damn loud."

I kiss my teeth, "Melo shut up, you got the nerve to say sum. You loud all the damn time at school. Actually lemme go over there and tell Lavar about how you was acting in second hour.."

He cuts me off, "Chill, shawty you ain't gotta do allat." I laugh at his reaction.

I pretend like I'm going to go tell on him and I run over to Lavar.

Melo wasn't slow to run after me, I could feel him right behind me and I just greet Lavar.

"Hi Lavar. How are you?" I say innocently, giving Lavar a hug.

"Fantastic! Big Baller in the building." He yells and I was almost tempted to cover my ears. I just laugh politely and head over to Tina.

"Hey, Tina. How's it going?" I bend down to give her a hug seeing as she's already seated.

"Hey, honey. I'm doing great. How are you?" She says quicker and I smile in admiration. Every time I see her she just gets better and better.

"I'm doing great. Just ready for the summer already." I groan.

"Ugh. Right?" She says and we laugh together.

"You and Melo? Hell yeah." I look at her a little shocked.

"Oh no ma'am we're not dating. We're just friends." I say. She must have gotten the wrong idea.

"Ok.." She nods and gestures for me to come closer so she could whisper in my ear, "You and Melo, hell yeah." I just laugh. Tina is too funny.

I walk back over to where Melo and Lavar where, "What was that about? I saw you and my momma conversing." Melo asks.

"Dang you so damn nosy, back off." I say to Melo giving him a stank face.

Lavars tells us to take our seats and I ended up sitting next to Jaden and Melo both on either sides of me.

Before the practice game starts Gelo runs over to us to say hello.

"Wassup brotha." I dap em up.

"Hey Maya, you already know you finna see me take this dub."

"I'm counting on it." I say and I sit back down in my seat. Somehow my seat was scooted over a little bit more to the left and Melo was grinning big.

I roll my eyes.

"I love you babe. Do good out there practice or not it'll always be a dub to me." Jaden says and I coo.

"Thanks J, it's you and me forever." They hug and the Gelo runs back over the the team.

When Jaden sits back down she tells me, "Ugh he still makes me swoon."

" Yanno, I aspire to have a relationship like that one day." I admitted, truthfully. That was some cute shit right there.

Melo's arm reaches my right shoulder and I look over at him with a confused look on my face. Why is this boy touchin' me?

"You said you trynna be in a relationship, shawty?"

I roll my eyes.
