𝙶𝚎𝚝𝚝𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚁𝚎𝚊𝚍𝚢

When I entered, Grandma was leaning by the stove–tapping her fingers on the counter. The aroma of blueberry pie and coffee filled the fresh air, and the ticking of the time meter filled the empty noise. Grandma was humming to Only You by The Platters as she slowly swayed her hips.

Once the sound of the door closing reached her ears, she turned around, with a soft-warm smile on her face.It was once in a while she heard the door close, but it was alright."Y/n/n sweetheart, good afternoon Dolly."

I walked over to her and kissed her cheek. "Good afternoon G/n/n–How's the pie?"

"Goin' well dear." She looked at me closely and grinned,"Why so jolly my darlin'? Do you have a boy in love?"

I chuckled, blushing, "Ah no...well, I was invited to hang out with some boys G/n/n, that's all."

"Boys?"

"Remeber Sodapop Curtis and his friends?"

Her face softened after hearing about them. She always liked the Curtis boys, she said that the boys had a heart of gold and reminded her of grandpa. She tilted her head and looked me in the eyes,"Well when is it hun?"

"It's today by-"

"Well what are you waiting for dear?"

I hugged her in gratitude. "Thanks G/n/n."

She pulled back and looked at me, rubbing my shoulder. "And please Y/n, next time you don't stay–atleast call me, yes?"

I blushed, smiling faintly. "Sorry, won't happen again."

The oven beeped as a signal for my departure. I quickly ran upstairs and headed to my room to get ready. I showered, double-brushed my teeth and hair, and dressed into something simple.

I was staring into the life-sized mirror in front of me.

White tee, navy jeans, and converse.

I wasn't sure if to pull my hair into a ponytail or leave it down. I mean, my face was kind of puffy.

I finally decided to leave it down before proceeding to walk downstairs. G/n/n was waiting for me at the table–She had placed a slice of warm pie on her china plate. "Eat sweetheart, you need to be full at least until you arrive."

"Thanks Ma."
