Chapter 31
10:09, 1 November 2020( Russia's POV)
Russia was crying. It was about 4 in the morning, but Russia had been up for several hours. Russia sobbed into his pillow, letting his tears get soaked up by the pillowcase. He had a dream that Germany didn't love him anymore. It had seemed so real. Russia didn't know why, but he was afraid to lose Germany.
He was scared to be alone again.
He thought about how America had left him. He remembered the moment he had walked into China's house and found them kissing on the couch vividly. He remembered America's shocked eyes and China's wicked smirk. He remembered America telling him that China treated him better and was much more attractive.
Most of all, Russia remembered the feeling of his heart being torn to shreds.
This was the feeling Russia had felt just after his dream. What if Germany really didn't love him anymore? What if he liked Poland instead? Was that why they had been hanging out so much recently? Russia's heart wrenched inside of him. Maybe he would be all alone again.
Russia squeezed his pillow harder and bawled. He didn't even try to muffle his sounds. Most of his siblings were deep sleepers anyway, so he wouldn't wake them. Russia hicced between his sobs. He didn't know what he would do. He would be so lost without Germany...
He heard his door slowly open. He turned around to see one of his siblings at his door. Wiping his eyes the best he could, he looked to see who had opened his door.
It was Belarus.
She had a look of empathy and concern on her face, which was rare considering it was, well..Belarus. She walked over to Russia's bed and struggled to get on top. Once she did, She settled herself to be right next to Russia.
" What's wrong, big brother? " she asked.
" Nothing," Russia replied, trying to keep his voice from faltering.
" Monster Cat can smell your lies," Belarus said, holding her plush close to Russia's face.
" Um-"
" So, what's really wrong?"
Russia didn't say anything at first. Belarus was very young and likely wouldn't understand how he felt. However, no one we awake at the moment, and Belarus was persistent.
" It's... I just... I just don't want to be alone again. The person I'm in love with might not love me back, and I'm afraid.."
Russia was trembling. He didn't want to cry in front of his youngest sister.
" Listen, " she began. " If you love them, you have to tell them. You can never know for sure until you do. You need to."
" But what if they don't love me back?"
" Then there is nothing you can do. But if thst happens, at least you said something and you can let it go, right?"
Russia nodded. He silently wondered how she knew so much about the topic. It didn't matter much though; her words seemed true enough.
" Why don't you go buy your love interest flowers or something like that?" Belarus suggested.
" That's a good idea!" Russia said. " But which ones? "
" Whichever ones remind you of them the most."
Russia nodded again and hugged his sister. She hugged him back the best she could. Everything remained wholesome until Russia heard a quiet snip.
" Belarus!" Russia half yelled. All she did was smile and run off with the strands of hair she had snipped off Russia's head. It wasn't enough to make a visible difference, but it made Russia mad nevertheless.

Russia had arrived at the lake early. He laid out the blanket He had brought on the grass and sat on it. He tried his best to hide the flowers he had bought. They were Japanese Anemones. They were white and beautiful like Germany's eyes, and Russia thought that he might like them.
He had also brought a thick slice of honey cake for them to share. Germany seemed to really like it, and they hadn't had any in a while. He had also brought lemonade with vodka mixed in. Russia really liked to mix vodka in with his drinks, but lemonade was his favorite thing to spike.
There was a faint noise coming from the distance. To Russia, it sounded like the trumpeting of the swan.
" This is perfect, " Russia said to himself.
" What is?"
Russia jumped. He turned around to see that Germany had arrived.
" I-I'm sorry! I didn't mean to scare you!"
" It's okay!"
Russia patted the ground beside him, beckoning Germany to come sit next to him. Germany obeyed and settled beside Russia.
" I was just talking about how your swan friend is here," Russia said, pointing towards the other side of the water. Germany had to squint to see it.
" I may just be seeing things," Germany began. " But is that.."
Russia followed Germany's gaze. He also had to squint to see, but he could confirm that Germany was not seeing things.
There was another black swan.
Russia watched as both birds began to swim over to them. They swam side by side at first. The original black swan stopped a few feet away from them, just like it always did. However, the other one came right up to him and Germany. It climbed up the bank and walked right up to Russia. Upon closer inspection, Russia saw that this swan had a white, heart-shaped marking on its head. It cocked it's head curiously at Russia, then turned around. It honked at the other swan, who slowly climbed the riverbank and went over to Germany instead.
" This is amazing! " Germany said excitedly. " The swan never comes this close! "
Germany fixed his glasses on his face and began looking over the swan. Russia loved how happy he looked as he did so. He looked at his swan, who had taken an interest in his bootlaces. It had gotten a hold of one and pulled, untying his boot. Russia laughed at this before tying it back.
" Did you know that about 1/4 black swan couples are same-sexed?" Germany said suddenly.
" No, I didn't, " Russia replied. " That's really cool, actually."
" Do you think these two are gay?"
" I'm not sure."
" Is the one by you a male?"
" How can I tell?"
" Is it's beak straight?"
" Yeah."
" Is it's tail long?"
" I think so."
" It's probably a male. This one is a male, too."
Russia watched as the swan that was messing with his shoelaces walked over and nuzzled the other one. The other black swan turned its neck around and preened its partner's feathers. Once it had been preened, the swan with the heart on its head went back to Russia. As soon as it got over there, it nipped at Russia's sweater.
" Hey!" He said. " Don't eat my sweater!"
He heard Germany laugh at him. The swan honked at Russia, extending its neck behind Russia's back.
" What is he honking at?" Germany asked.
Russia felt himself getting nervous. He didn't speak swan, but he had a good idea of what this swan was looking at. He worried about how wrong this could go. He remembered Belarus's advice.
Well, he thought to himself.
Here goes nothing.
" H-hey Germany?"
" Yes Russland?"
" Blyat, I'm not even sure how to say this... I admire you. You're super sweet, talented, and you can be absolutely hilarious when you want to be. You always know how to cheer other people around you up. You're an amazing person with the cutest smile and the most gorgeous eyes. You make me the happiest country alive. And, I'm not sure if you have feelings for Poland, and I respect that if you do, but-"
Russia pulled the flowers out from behind his back.
"- Will you be my boyfriend?"
Germany's eyes were glittering. He looked up at Russia in complete and utter shock. Russia was nervous; what was he going to say?
" R-Russland, I don't know what to say..!"
Russia didn't say anything. He sat there holding the flowers, anxiously waiting for Germany's answer.
" ... Yes, I will be your boyfriend!"
Russia couldn't hide his joy. He set the flowers down gently and picked Germany up. He had a wide smile stuck on his face as he spun him around in his arms. Germany held on to his neck and giggled. Russia stopped after a few spins and looked at Germany. His eyes sparkled similarly to the way his did. They really were gorgeous.
Russia kissed Germany. He kept his grip and held him up, though he could feel his arms getting weaker. Germany cradled Russia's face and kissed him back.
" You know," Germany said after their kiss. " Us and the swans have something in common now!"
" What?" Russia asked curiously.
" We both have boyfriends!"
( Hope you all enjoyed the chapter! I'm glad this one is out in the morning and not in the late afternoon like the last one! I liked that this one was fairly wholesome, it was actually very pleasant to write. There wasn't anything super intense, and it was very airy and cute :3)
