Chapter 3 Part II

07:59, 1 September 2023

Sophie

"Sophiee!!" I hear a voice screech from behind me. "That is your name right? You look good today."

"Oh Lin!" I catch my breath, Lin's screechy voice kickstarting a pounding in my head. If I wasn't actually dead today I would have loved to hear that I looked good, if I'm being honest, I actually tried to put effort into what I'm wearing today.

"You going to the fitting as well?" She asks, tucking her neon green hair behind her ears.

"Yeah I am, what do we do at fittings?" I rub my eyes, trying to keep them open.

"Nothing."

"Yeah, sounds about right," I mutter, looking down at my clipboard to check what room we're in. "We're in this one."

"I know," she assures, opening the door up for the both of us. Inside Chris' members are spread across the room, all on their phones or arguing with each other. Not arguing arguing, but like, playful arguing you know? The members hardly take notice that we walk in, so I continue to follow Lin towards some other staff members.

The other staff members are all gathered around a clothes hanger, rearranging and sorting through every item of clothing. I remain with my head down, looking at my notes from yesterday, the ones before I fell asleep at least.

I'm trying to avoid eye contact or any awkward encounters with anyone to be honest, especially after I spent the entirety of last night working on my prac.

"You." My head springs up as I hear a man behind me. "Take this to..." He searches over a piece of paper in his hands.

Please be Changbin, Han or Chris... please

"Take this to Changbin," he dumps an outfit in my hands and I exhale, letting out all the stress that had just built up in the span of 2 seconds. I begin searching the room for Changbin and find him in the corner, his face planted in a bowl, shoving noodles into his face.

"Here," I passed over the outfit to him, my voice barely above a whisper.

"Hey! You woke up!" He exclaimed sarcastically.

"Barely," I flashed an awkward smile, before quickly walking back over to Lin.

"You got to do something," Lin pouted jokingly, glancing over at Changbin buttoning up the shirt I gave him.

"Yep, the trick is to stand near that scary man over there." I let out a snort, looking over to Changbin, who Lin was still eyeing. "Woah, they don't have changing rooms?" I gasp.

"Nope," Lin grins at me, snatching my clipboard before walking over to stand by the scary man from earlier, leaving me awkwardly standing by a kettle. I lean on a counter behind me, looking around at what the members are doing, avoiding the ones getting changed so as to not be... creepy.

"Soph come here," I look over to Chris, zipping up his fly.

Since when was 'Soph' a thing?

I let out a sigh, walking across the room, directly to him, as he pulls the black shirt he's wearing over his head.

"Yeah?" I ask, stopping a metre away from him, avoiding looking down below his face.

"Why are you being a creep?" He smiles boldly.

"Huh?" I gasp, watching him put his arms through the sleeves of another shirt in the corner of my eye.

"Standing over there, staring at my members," he continues to put the other sleeve over his arm and I shake my head in response, trying to hold back a smile. He beams, watching me struggle to hold a straight face as he puts a tie around his neck.

"Now, do your job, help me," he holds his tie out, gesturing for me to do it up for him. I nod, stepping closer to him, fighting every urge to not gaze down at his unbuttoned shirt. I grasp onto his tie and begin twisting one piece around the other, glancing down at Chris doing his buttons up every so often. I know Chris can tell where I'm looking, he's been holding an unwavering gaze this entire time.

I finish the knot, fixing any little imperfections with the tie as he does the last button up. I flatten the collar down over the tie, Chris watching my hands as I do so, brushing his hair to the side of his face. Once I finish, I take a step back and he looks at me, nodding his head.

"How was work?" He asks lightly, sitting down on a couch behind him.

"Fine," I nod, walking closer to him as he continues the conversation.

"Where's your spongebob sweater today?" He whines jokingly.

"At least I still have the soggy boots on," I glance down at the disintegrated boots.

"Oh fuck, buy some new shoes," his eyes widen as he looks down.

"You don't think I've been saving up for a pair?" I chuckle lightly, tilting my head to the side.

"Oh," his smile drops. "Soph, I could always b-,"

"Sophie, lunch, let's go." Lin shouts from across the room, grasping my attention.

"Sorry Chris, I gotta go," I flash him a light smile.

"Let's talk later, yeah?" He adds right before I turn around.

"Yeah," I smile, following Lin out the door.

We take a seat at the JYPE cafeteria as I hold the biggest bowl ofย  jjigae I could've possibly ordered, I mean, why not, I can buy any food with my fancy new smart card.

"Sophie?" Lin taps me on the shoulder, making me jump a little in response. "Holy shit, I called your name like 5 times, what's so interesting on your phone?" Lin leans over the table to see what I'm looking at.

"Nothing," I tilt the screen to block her from looking at it.

"You're actually a nerd," she cringes, sitting back down. "Making music at lunch?"

"It's my practical," I reply, shifting in my seat, looking back down at my phone.

"Anyway, what's going on with you and Bangchan?" She smirks.

"Hm? Nothing." I reply shortly.

"So, nothing?"

"Yep," I reply, acting uninterested, continuing to look down at my phone.

"God, fine, ignore me, work on your fucking love song for him," she scoffs dramatically, continuing to eat some banana bread she got. I glance back down at the unfinished project on my phone, cringing even at the sight of it, let alone listening to it.

What the fuck have I gotten myself into.
