KAI

04:49, 3 May 2022

A/N I'm sorry in advanced

Kai awoke to the noise of fighting. His mind snapped into battle mode, ready to take out any threats. However, his tired body failed to respond. Kai's eyes fluttered open, but he was not able to comprehend any visuals. He did hear a loud noise... it sounded rough like sandpaper.

There was movement. Definitely movement happening... Green, something green. Kai rubbed his eyes, trying to focus on anything.

Was that Lloyd? Huh, it was Lloyd. About time he arrived and saved the day. He was fighting someone... Probably some Dragon Clan member. Kai's mind couldn't register exactly what was happening, but it appeared as if Lloyd was using Spinjitzu. Maybe some Elemental Powers.

Kai yawned. Alright, time to be useful. Kai willed himself to rise. But nothing happened. Something was weighing him down. Kai glanced to the side to see Cole was sleeping on him. He was snoring by Kai's ear. That was the noise Kai heard.

Lloyd must've won the fight because suddenly, he was extending a hand to Kai.

"Hi," Kai said, taking Lloyd's hand.

"Are you guys okay?" Lloyd said. He stumbled as Kai got to his feet. He didn't suspect Kai to put all his weight on him.

"Sleepy," Kai said. He put his hand against the wall and steadied himself. He had to overcome his tiredness... somehow. Kai took a second to think about the urgency of the situation. If Kai understood the severity, he could overpower his tiredness. Mind over matter, Kai was great at that sort of stuff.

"Where's Jay and Zane?" Lloyd said as he shook Cole awake.

"Zane's not here?" Kai said. He gazed around. Zane was with them earlier. Kai wandered away from Lloyd. He felt dissociated as he stumbled. Time to wake himself up.

"Jay escaped. He went to find you," Kai mumbled. Lloyd repeated that information into his earpiece.

Lloyd finally woke up Cole. He groaned as he came back to consciousness. Lloyd helped him to his feet.

"What happened to you guys?" Lloyd said.

"Dragons," Cole mumbled, "Man, I hope this doesn't ruin dragons for me."

"We just need to sleep it off," Kai offered, "After the mission." He wished he could pick a spot on the floor to curl up and sleep. But he had to find Jay and Zane and escape with his friends. Kai noticed a bottle of water on a nearby counter.

As he approached he noticed a tied-up person on the floor. Kai blinked at him. He looked familiar. He was one of Chief Moses' main henchmen. What was his name? Kai waved at him. He sighed.

"Aren't you escaping?" he said. Kai wanted to say his name started with a... P? Paul? No.

Kai grabbed the water, turned towards Cole, and splashed it in his face.

"Hey!" Cole said.

"Do me," Kai said, handing the water to Cole.

"Gladly," Cole said. The sudden burst of water brought some life back to Kai. Although he still felt exhausted.

"Ready?" Lloyd asked.

"No," Cole said honestly.

"Let's go try not to die," Kai said as enthusiastically as he could at that moment. Lloyd pointed to a far wall.

"There's a tunnel there. We should check the cells under the village," Lloyd said.

Lloyd inspected the wall, searching for a way to open the tunnel.

"You don't know how to... do the thing," Kai said, forgetting what he was trying to say halfway through his sentence.

"It was open when I found it before," Lloyd said.

"Got it," Cole said, his arms beginning to glow. He was activating his Elemental Powers. He punched the wall. It indented. Impressive, but way weaker than what Cole was usually able to do.

"The password is dragon..." Paul said. No, it wasn't Paul. Peter? Patrick?

"What password?" Lloyd said.

"The computer. You can open the tunnel through the computer. The password is dragon." Patrick's said in a bored voice.

Lloyd fiddled with the computer for a bit. Then the far wall displaced itself.

"Thanks," Lloyd said.

"Bye Soren," Cole said. Soren, his name was Soren. Kai was going to guess that name next.

Kai and Cole followed Lloyd into the dark, although they were clumsy. It was a disgrace to stealth. Under any other circumstance, Jay and Nya would've mocked their gracelessness. Kai almost wished Jay was teasing him. He figured Jay deserved to joke around. He'd been through a lot. And if was joking, then he wasn't depressed.

Lloyd must've remembered the layout because he ran the entire time. Cole and Kai trailed far behind him.

"Hurry," Lloyd prompted.

"We just had our Elemental Powers drained," Kai protested.

"So did Jay. I'm sure he was willing to run places," Lloyd said. That was likely true.

When they arrived at Jay's old cell, they found all the cells were empty. Even Eyre's cell was empty.

"Jay must've freed Eyre," Cole said.

"Who?" Lloyd said.

"A friend Jay made in prison," Kai said.

They returned to the observational room.

"Bye Soren," Cole said again as they passed him again.

"Goodbye, Cole," Soren sighed.

Outside, the first thing Kai noticed was the rain. The rain made stealth easier, as well as it easier to stay awake. Kai usually hated the rain, but at that moment, it was keeping him from collapsing where he stood.

As well, they had an advantage. The Bounty was conducting a lot of attention. It was shooting lighting off the deck. And dragons were attacking it.

It hovered over Okuura, receiving quite the beating from two dragons. Villagers were out en masse. All their eyes were glued to the sky.

"Nya?!" Kai said suddenly as he remembered that Nya must be on the Bounty. Kai had to help her. But how could he get up there?

"She's in Okuura. She's helping us find Jay and Zane," Lloyd assured Kai.

"Guys, how many points for the person who finds Jay?" Cole asked. He stared upward, looking completely spaced out.

"Five," Kai responded sarcastically.

"What?" Lloyd said, at the same time.

"Five points for me," Cole said, pointing in the direction of his dazed eye line. Lloyd and Kai looked up. A fire dragon was flying overhead. In its talons, squirming and screaming for his life, was Jay.

It was taking him upward, towards the Bounty.

On the dragon's back was Chief Moses.

Lloyd immediately shared Jay's location with the earpiece. Kai could hear Nya on the other side losing her mind.

"Pix, prepare the cannons," Lloyd said, "You have to get Jay loose from the dragon's grip and have him drop onto the Bounty... I don't care about the statistics, P.I.X.A.L.! We don't have dragons to go up and save him."

Or did they? Kai looked down at his hands. Mind over matter.

At his will, a small fire danced in between his fingers. Even with his power drained, he was still the Master of Fire.

Kai outstretched his hand, took a deep breath, and willed an Elemental Dragon to appear.

"Don't overextend yourself," Lloyd said.

"If I don't do this, Jay will die," Kai said matter-of-factly. That was his reality. He couldn't change that. Master Wu told him that if he couldn't change his circumstance, he should change himself.

He'll change himself into someone who puts his Brother first. Kai opened his eyes. A fire dragon was sitting in front of him.

"How...?" Cole said.

"I'm awesome," Kai said, jumping on the back of his Elemental Dragon, "I'll be back. With Jay." The fire dragon lifted him into the air. His dragon was much slower than it usually was. Kai didn't allow his mind to wander. Although his tiredness knew no bounds, he had to overcome it.

The dragon arrived at the Bounty, Jay still caught in it's clutches. P.I.X.A.L. shot cannons at the dragon but it avoided all the attacks. Kai wasn't sure why Jay was being taken to the Bounty.

Until he saw the metal pole attached to the deck: a Lightning Rod.

It was poetic. Of course, Chief Moses would be poetic.

Kai willed his dragon to go faster but wasn't able to pick up his speed.

"Jay! I'm coming!" Kai yelled. Jay noticed Kai approaching.

"Kai, what time is it!?" Jay yelled.

"What!?"

"I need to know the time!"

"I swear, if this is a set-up for a stupid joke, I'll kill you myself," Kai yelled.

Lightning was striking the pole constantly. At Chief Moses' will, the dragon tossed Jay towards the pole. A massive bolt of lightning struck down. Jay collided with the Element he used to command and fell to the deck of the Bounty. Jay remained motionless.

Kai's dragon slowed in the air and paused. He wasn't fast enough. Kai stared at Chief Moses who now took notice of Kai.

"A death fitting for a snake," Chief Moses said. Anger filled Kai. He charged forward in a rage.

As the two fire dragons collided, Kai thought he heard the sound of Jay's laughter. This caused Kai's focus to waver. His dragon disappeared from underneath him. He was falling. Lightning flashed in front of his eyes.

And all Kai could think at that moment was how he wished he apologized to Jay. How foolish was it that his last conversation with Jay wasn't about fixing their Brotherhood? But about the time?
