Chapter 4✨

The light was blinding, all consuming, almost trapping but freeing. Raina hadn't noticed that she was hovering 5 feet above the ground. Her hair was levitating, and it was as though she was being transformed.

The light dimmed down, as she found herself, rooted where she stood. The Pevensies stared at her in wonder. Everything dawned on Raina as her jaw dropped.

'Well. That happened. I was half expecting glowy eyes, a costume change or wings for that matter, but oh well.' She said bluntly.

Edmund and Lucy couldn't help but laugh a little at her reaction.

'You are it.. you're her.' Peter spoke, awe lacing his voice.

'But how is it possible? How could I be someone like that? It's very hard to believe, if I'm being honest.' Raina spoke sadly.

'Raina, we don't have answers for that, I'm sorry.' Susan said, sadly.

'But look at the bright side! You are The Narnian Protector!! That's huge!' Lucy piped up, excitedly. Raina couldn't help but smile, even though deep down she was afraid.

'So, what does this mean? I can control the elements? I can make a storm come around? Ooh, I can-' Raina was speaking before Peter cut her off.

'Whoa whoa, let's take a deep breath here. First, why don't you try using your powers. Just try anything.' He said calmly.

Raina scrunched up her face, wondering how she was supposed to do something like that. She used arm gestures in an exaggerated manner, but nothing happened. She frowned.

'Well, I guess it's something I'll figure out? I have no idea what I am doing right now.' Raina spoke.

Raina and the others changed into other clothing as their uniforms were still wet from the sea water. Raina felt uncomfortable in the dress she borrowed from Lucy. It was a beautiful white and blue dress, but it was in stark contrast to what she wore prior. She tied half of her hair up with the hair tie Susan lent her. She was staring at the floor when she felt someone tap her shoulder.

'Are you alright?' She looked up, and it was Edmund.

'Oh yeah, absolutely, I'm completely alright, I'm some all-powerful being, who according to your legend, should be thousands of years old, but I'm 15, and from Finchley, here with my friends who are the Kings and Queens, and I land up here through a train station with them, right when I was thinking about the biology test we had this morning, but I'm completely alright.' Raina ended her rant, dripping with sarcasm.

Edmund rolled his eyes briefly before looking at her sympathetically. Something came over him and he hugged her tightly. She was completely taken aback, as she realised that she didn't even hug him back at the station, so this is her first hug from him in over a year. The blood rushed to her cheeks as she hugged him back. Someone cleared their throat, causing Edmund and Raina to jump. They looked up and saw Peter, standing with his arms crossed, trying not to laugh. Susan and Lucy had a similar expression too. Raina caught it and created some distance between her and Edmund, her shy nature taking over.

'Raina, I know you're likely capable of controlling everything, with you being the Protector, but I think you should still learn to use a weapon. Who knows what lies ahead.' Peter said.

'Oh, she should learn the bow and arrows! Susan could teach you!' Lucy said.

'She should have a sword.' Edmund said, catching everyone off guard.

'Why?' Peter asked.

'She knows how to sword fight.' Edmund said simply.

All eyes were on Raina, as she tried to answer.

'My dad taught me how to swordfight. We were about to finish lessons when the war started, and he had to go.' Raina ended, sadly.

Peter nodded and walked over the weapon chest and pulled out a sword, fitting for her stature and height, along with a belt to keep it in. She attached it to her hip.

'So what's the plan Pete?' Edmund asked.

Peter was about to say something when Raina froze up. No one had noticed this, until she started walking towards the door.

'Raina? Is everything alright?' Edmund asked.

In a distant voice, Raina said,

'Guys, I think something's wrong.'

The Pevensies shared worried glances before catching up to Raina. Their eyes widened when they took her in. Her dark brown eyes now pulsed violet. She was experiencing a vision.

Flashes came by. A boat, two men, possibly soldiers because of their armour, and a tied up...dwarf? A river came into view, as the men held up the dwarf ready to throw him in. Once the vision passed, Raina's eyes returned to their normal colour, as she looked at the Pevensies worriedly.

'Guys, we need to get down to the beach NOW.' She said urgently.

The Pevensies looked at each other, before taking off. They ran out of the room, down the hill, when Edmund stopped and pointed out to the distance. It was exactly what Raina saw in her vision.

'Look!' Edmund yelled.

He and Peter unsheathed their swords, ready to run. Susan aimed her bow at the boat.

'Drop him!' She yelled. The soldiers looked at her before dropping the dwarf into the water.

'We won't make it, they're too far away..' Lucy said worriedly.

Peter and Edmund started running towards the river, even though they knew deep down they wouldn't make it.

Raina suddenly felt something course through her. Something warm, with the intensity of fire. Even though she couldn't work her powers before, she knew she had to try again.

Her arms formed a cross in front of her chest, and she squeezed her eyes shut. Once she opened them, her eyes flashed a brilliant blue. Everyone on the beach gawked, dumbstruck. (Picture Scarlet Witch but instead of scarlet, picture cerulean witch lol)

(A/N in my mind it would look something like this but imagine they're glowing too)

Her arms were now jerked to her sides, and they began to glow with a pale blue light. She stretched her right arm forward and the water formed a crater, where the dwarf was thrown in. She lifted her arm again, and the dwarf was lifted out of the water, pale blue light surrounding him as well, in a protective embrace. He safely landed on the sandy beach.

Susan went in for the kill, and shot one of the soldiers with her arrow, while the other jumped into the water, out of fright. The light surrounding Raina's arms dimmed down, and so did her eyes. The moment the light left, exhaustion took over. She collapsed on the sand, but thankfully Edmund caught her before she got hurt. She looked up and she felt the blood rush to her cheeks again, in spite of her exhaustion.

Why does this happen ugh. She wondered to herself despite being on the verge of passing out.

'Are you alright?' Edmund asked kindly.

Raina straightened herself, still slightly woozy, and nodded.

On the other hand, Lucy used her dagger to cut open the dwarf's bonds, as he spit out the water that went into his lungs. Once he stood up, he looked up at Susan and yelled,

'Drop him?! That's the best you could come up with?'

Susan looked him dead in the eye, before saying,

'A simple thank you would suffice.'

The dwarf then looked to Raina, awe taking over his features.

'Thank you M'Lady.' Was all he said and he bowed to her.

'Oh please, don't do that.' Raina said feeling uncomfortable, as she helped the dwarf to his feet.

'Are you her?' He asked, awestruck.

Raina looked to Peter, who nodded. The dwarf noticed and he looked like he was relieved. Suddenly something clouded over his features.

'Why did you abandon us? Why did you leave us to these barbarians?!' He asked angrily and sorrowfully.

Raina jerked back, afraid, as Edmund positioned himself between them.

'Mind yourself.' He said in a threatening voice. The dwarf slinked away.

'Why were they trying to kill you?' Lucy asked, in a small voice.

For a moment the dwarf's demeanour calmed down, before it clouded over and he spoke up.

'They're Telmarines, it's what they do.' He replied, annoyed.

'Telmarines. In Narnia?' Edmund asked, looking at Peter.

'Where have you been for the last few hundred years?' The dwarf asked ruefully.

'It's a bit of a long story.' Lucy replied.

The dwarf suddenly took note of Peter's sword, something clicking in his mind. A realisation dawned on him and he looked at the Pevensies with a shocked face.

'Oh you've got to be kidding me. You're it? You're the Kings and Queens of Old?' He asked in disbelief.

Before anyone could say anything, Raina noticed one of the Telmarine soldiers that tried to kill the dwarf, heft a crossbow over his shoulder, pointed at them. The soldier aimed for Edmund. Raina's eyes widened, as she scrambled to react.

'Edmund, MOVE!' She yelled before pushing him away, and he fell to the ground.

The soldier released the arrow that now zipped at Raina. Her eyes flashed a pale blue, as she held up her hand, and the arrow freezes, midair. The Pevensies and the dwarf once again, gawked at this display of power.

She flicked her wrist, and the arrow zipped back at the soldier, embedding itself deep in his chest. The glow left her eyes as she swayed on her feet. She fell on the sand, clutching her head. The Pevensies ran to her, fussing over her, to see if she was alright.

'I'm alright, I'm alright.' She reassured them.

'How did you do that?' Lucy asked.

'I honestly don't know, it was almost instinctual.' Raina tried to explain.

'At least you don't doubt that you're the Narnian Protector, right?' Edmund said sarcastically. Raina rolled her eyes.

'I could very much dump you in the water right now if I wanted to.' She said in a menacing tone. Edmund came closer and looked her dead in the eye.

'Is that so? You want to have a go?' He asked almost flirtatiously. Raina suddenly felt confident and she stared right back.

'I'm game if you are.' She said, smirking.

Someone cleared their throat, as the two teenagers jumped apart, clearly being oblivious to the fact that there were 4 other people out. The person that cleared their throat turned out to be the dwarf.

'My name is Trumpkin. There are some things you need to know.' He said, gravely.
