Through Fire and Ice
12:15, 16 June 2021Bruh I forgot about the whole filler arc with that shrinking giant girl, and im sure u did too. So we are not refreshing anyone's memory bc that was lowkey boring. Skipped (Almost forgot to slap a chapter on this one too)---
We emerged from the ocean with the help of a bunch of huge whales, and then got wrecked by the completely random weather that went from violently raining to literally splitting the sea and almost swallowing the ship. I will admit I fell over multiple times while the ocean rocked the Sunny to and fro violently. When I got up for maybe the fifth time already, I saw that the ocean seemed to literally be on fire. First of all, how is the water on fire, and second of all, how is the rain not putting it out.
"Look! The volcano's erupting! Let's go to that island!" Luffy called out. I squinted my eyes to see that there was actually land behind the fiery waters. Land that was just as on fire as the water surrounding it.
Obviously, Nami did not want to go there, and the fact that none of the needles on her new log pose were pointing to the island seemed to give her more reason to not go. Luffy didn't care one bit, as always, and after a few more minutes of the two of them going back and forth there was...crying coming from inside the ship? I went inside with Luffy, Sanji and Nami to see what was going on, and it turned out that the den den mushi was sobbing it's eyes out.
"Oi, what's wrong?! You have a stomachache?!" our ebony haired capatain questioned the snail.
"Fool, that's an emergency signal," Sanji told him. "Somebody's calling for help."
"Yea... how could you not know that?" I muttered toward Luffy. I didn't know that either.
"If I pick it up, can we hear them?" Luffy asked.
Robin made her way into the room and tried to stop him from answering the call, "Wait, Luffy! More than 50% of emergency signals are fake! It could be a Navy trap- one they use often. If the line is tapped they will find out where we are."
"That's our Robin!" Usopp praised as he made his way into the room as well. "Oi, Luffy, you have to be careful-"
"Hello?!" Luffy called into the speaker of the den den mushi, completely ignoring the warning. "My name is Monkey D. Luffy! I'm going to become the King of Pirates!"
The sniper of the crew smacked the man over the head and yelled, "You picked up too fast and said too much!"
"HELP ME!" a male voice from the other end of the den den mushi responded. "It's cold... is this the boss?!"
"No, I'm not the boss. Is it cold there?" Luffy queried.
"I dunno, I'd say you're pretty much the boss," I commented, leaning over his shoulder.
"Ah, you're right, yes I'm the bo-!" Usopp smacked me and Luffy over the head, successfully refocusing us.
"My colleagues are getting cut down one after another! The samurai are gonna kill us!" the stranger panicked. The mention of samurais pulled Brook's and Zoro's attention to the conversation, not to mention mine. Samurais usually mean worthwhile swords.
"Hey you, what's your name?! Where are you?!" Luffy called to them.
The snail just kept on sobbing, "Somebody help me... I'm on.. PUNK HAZARD! Agh-" The snail coughed up blood to mimic what was going on across the line. It turned off right after that.
Our captain put the speaker back onto the den den mushi and held his chin in his hand. "Hmm.. I smell trouble..." he muttered calmly.
"OF COURSE THERE'S TROUBLE! SOMEBODY JUST CUT HIM!" Usopp screeched into Luffy's ear. Chopper had the same spooked energy and chanted that the New World was scary.
Robin hummed and butted in, "Maybe he was acting and it's a trap."
In the end, we headed to the flaming island to help the man who sent the signal, suspecting that it was Punk Hazard. That's what I'd like to say was the reason, but Luffy just wanted a reason to get on the crazy island. Brook explained earlier that the previously mentioned samurai was from the land of Wano, a completely solo country that wasn't even connected to the World Government. Why a samurai would be here is a question that is definitely worth asking, but we won't know anything until we see what's up with this island. The guy on the den den mushi said that it was cold where he was, and from what I can see, this island is as formidable as the hell I spent two years in. Where would it be cold on that lava land?
"So who's going? Since there is uncertainty, we shouldn't all go," Sanji said.
Luffy turned to Franky and grinned, "I'll be needing the Mini Merry!" The cyborg agreed to get it, but once again, they were stopped by Nami, who ended up having everyone picking lots to see who would go on the island and who wouldn't. Of course, I always get what I want so I was chosen by fate to go on the island with Luffy. Surprisingly, that wasn't sarcasm this time. Robin, Usopp, and Zoro were also going with us. Nami made a cloud path to the island like the ones on Sky Island, and we all rode on the Mini Merry to get over there. Not before everyone got a bento box from Sanji, though. Luffy started eating it immediately while the Mini Merry trudged over the fiery water on top of the cloud path. We could now see that there definitely was land to walk on since the cloud path was so tall.
"See? I told you there should be an entrance," Luffy chirped as bob wire fences that had signs all over it came into view. He already finished his food.
"Like I said, maybe somebody was living here in the past, but no one can live here now! The emergency signal earlier must have come from somewhere far!" Usopp responded. "Right, Robin?!"
Since I was sitting between Usopp and Luffy, I had to turn around to see that Robin and Zoro were eating their lunches right now, too. I pulled mine out as well and began eating since I had the feeling I wouldn't get the chance to later. I almost melted into the seat from Sanji's cooking. I would marry him if I could. Well, I can... I'm sure he wouldn't mind, especially since I got a special bento box. When I say special, by the way, I mean I got heart shaped things in here. Have I seen this from him before, yes, have I seen it directed only at me, no. Robin didn't look like she had any.
"It didn't look good but I like the taste," I heard Robin say from behind me. I wasn't too concerned with it, though, considering I was still thinking really hard about my own food. "Would you like to try some Luffy?"
"Yep!"
"You two are eating lunch, too?!" Usopp asked. "And you too, (y/n)?!"
"You're not gonna eat yours?" Zoro questioned back.
"I don't feel like it right now!" he screeched.
Robin reached over and fed Luffy some food from her bento box. "He's an excellent cook!" Luffy chimed.
"Yep, he really is," I thought aloud. I turned around and looked at Robin, "How bad do you think it'd be to ask for Sanji's hand in marriage-"
"THIS ISN'T THE TIME TO THINK ABOUT PROPOSALS!" Usopp yelled at me, hitting me on the top of my head. I rubbed it and sat correctly in my seat, rolling my eyes a little. "The disorder I had 2 years ago is recurring! Hey guys, the truth is, I have a Fear-of-Unknown-Islands-osis."
"I know," all four of us said plainly.
While Usopp kept listing his fatal symptoms, Luffy was staring at my "Love" bento from Sanji. "Do you want some?" I asked with a quirked brow.
His eyes refocused and he looked at me, processing what I just said. He smiled and nodded, "Yes!" I offered him my chopsticks so he could grab it himself, but he just opened his mouth expectantly. I fed him half of my stuff by the time we beached the Mini Merry. I stuffed the rest in my mouth quickly and set the box down in the small boat while Zoro cut down the gate that was keeping us from entering deeper into the island. No extra luggage for me.
While we walked in, all of us shed some clothes. It was hot here. Almost as hot as my two year hell. Almost. Luffy and Zoro went shirtless, and Robin took off her green dress to reveal ANOTHER a tanktop and some shorts. Prepared as always. I didn't have any clothes to shed, so I just suffered. It's alright, though, since I'm used to it. Usopp started stress eating as we walked, our group coming across many melted buildings that looked more like factory buildings rather than town houses. Everything was on fire, too, and when I say everything, I mean everything. The road pavement was on fire, and some of it was even cracking, letting lava peek through. Luffy kept calling out for the samurai and the panicked guy on the den den mushi earlier, but we got no response.
Noises started getting closer to us, and some rubble was thrown behind us. All of us turned around to see what was going on, and low and behold...
"EHHH?!" Usopp shrieked.
"Huh? Those actually exist?!" Luffy exclaimed.
"No.. It's a mythical creature! There's no way that it's real!" Zoro stated
"But look at those features... I don't think it could be anything else!" Robin said.
"Yea, that's definitely a dragon," I confirmed, staring up at the giant red scaled creature.
I didn't sit there and contemplate if the animal was a dragon or not, I started running when that thing threatened to breath fire, which it did. Luffy tried to punch it in his Gear 2, but it didn't work. He got smacked away by the dragon's tail because he got distracted when he "heard a voice". Zoro was the next to take on the dragon, and it almost seemed to pass out when he stopped it's headbutt with his own attack. He had to defend again when the dragon tried to chomp at him. Luffy popped out of the building he was thrown into earlier and he kicked the dragon away from the green head.
It batted its wings and started flying above us, then a male voice started speaking, "Bu! Are you people allies of the Shichibukai too?"
"Shichibukai..?" Robin repeated in confusion.
We didn't have any time to mull that over because fire breath was shot down at us again. I jumped out of the way and ran up to the tallest building, kicking a piece off and throwing it at the dragon's wing. It didn't pierce it but I definitely pissed the dragon off for sure. When it was about to come at me, Luffy shot into the air and landed on the dragon's back. After a few seconds, he said that there was actually a person stuck in the dragon and that was where the voice was coming from. The red creature noticed him on its back by then, so Luffy just made the dragon bite its own wing to pieces, and Zoro cut it's head off while it was falling. Robin caught our two falling crewmates. Now we need to deal with this guy stuck in the dragon.
~~~
"And you ended up like that?" Usopp asked the centaur Luffy. First those legs are stuck to the dragon and now they're stuck to Luffy. What a weird occcurance. Nonetheless, Luffy was having fun with it, so it didn't matter much. Next time we shouldn't let him run off after a pair of legs, though.
The legs picked Luffy up and slammed him on his head, but everyone basically ignored it, including Luffy, and started getting a move on. I noticed Zoro walking off, so I naturally followed after him in order to keep him from getting lost.
"What the hell?" I said in surprise, seeing a lake, and across said lake being snow.
"Oi, guys! Come and take a look at this!" Zoro called back to everyone. Luffy was the first one to run up the small set of stairs that led to where Zoro and I were standing, the other two following him. "Look."
Luffy made a noise of surprise, causing Usopp to ask, "What is it?" He didn't need us to verbally explain because it seemed he saw what was on the other side of the body of water splitting one climate from the next. "EHH?! S-SNOW-CAPPED MOUNTAINSSSSS?! No... are those mountains of ice?"
"So one of the mysteries is solved," Robin hummed.
"Hmm, you're right. The guy on the den den mushi said he was cold. He must have been on the other side," I rationalized.
Luffy grinned, "This island is so interesting! That's snow on the other side, right? It's so hot here, I wanna eat a snowcone!"
"We're not gonna go there! It's too cold!" Usopp yelled. "And it's a long way! Let's go back to the ship for now!"
"Oh no, it's going to be cold this time," Robin calmly said.
"If there are animals, we can make coats from pelts so it'll be ok," Zoro replied.
"NO IT'S NOT GONNA BE OK! HOW CAN YOU GUYS GO ALONG WITH THIS?!" Usopp shouted.
I nodded, "Yea, that's kinda gross Zoro. We don't know how to make sanitary coats from animal fur."
"Then freeze-"
"THAT'S NOT THE PROBLEM!" Usopp interrupted.
I was already walking off after Luffy, who took off to find out how to get a snowcone from the other side of the lake. Usopp came running down, freaking out about how he saw a monster woman on a nearby building, and since we saw nothing where he gestured to, we ignored his frantic-ness.
~~~
Besides having to beat up a giraffe an leopard centaur and finding out that everyone but Brook was kidnapped from the Sunny, the journey towards the lake was easy. We were now standing in front of the water with no coats and no boats.
"Are you really planning to cross that lake, Luffy?"
"Yep."
"And just how are you going to cross it?! Parts of it are on fire, others are frozen!"
"Then the water temperature might be fine. And I am pretty sweaty. Shall we swim across?" Zoro butted in.
"It must be difficult being so hot-"
"DON'T BE RIDICULOUS!" Usopp yelled at Zoro, probably not hearing what I just said over his mind borderline going insane around us. Robin definitely did though. She started chuckling at my little comment, and it made me smirk to myself, proud of my work. Meanwhile, Zoro was looking right past Usopp and at me, but I was too busy ignoring that confrontation to look back at him. He heard my joke as well.
"Me, Robin, and (y/n) can't swim, you know," Luffy stated.
"Ah, you're right," I hummed. All three of us stared at Usopp and Zoro with a smile.
"You're thinking of making us carry you over there, aren't you?!" Usopp cried out, realizing what the staring was about. "Stop looking at me like that! Fine, I guess I'll take care of it."
The sniper took out some seeds from his bag and a banana boat formed when the seeds sprouted, along with leaf paddles for rowing. We all hopped in while Usopp tried to tell us the story of how he got such a large arsenal of seeds, but Luffy interrupted him, causing him to mope and hop on board. When we were halfway across the lake, the leopard centaur came back on the lava side and blew a horn which seemed to summon a bunch of guys on the snowy end of the island. He called the guy Boss, so I'm guessing one of their men was the one who sent out an emergency call. Though, it is a broad title.
Usopp stood up and motioned to the group once we were close enough to the pack of people. They seemed to all be part animal. "OI! We're here to help you people! Let's talk first!" the long nosed man called out, trying to stop them from attacking us. We could pretty much sense that the horn was more of a call for battle.
"You're lying through your teeth! You're with the samurai! So there's no doubt you're intruders!" the tallest man, who I'm assuming is the boss, accused.
"Samurai...? He's talking about you!" Usopp realized, looking at the green head on the banana boat. The sniper turned back towards the group of strangers and yelled, "He's not a samurai- he's a swordsman! He's a dumb meathead who picks fights sometimes but he's not the one who attacked your people!"
"Who did you call dumb?!" Zoro growled.
"Help! He's gonna kill me!" Usopp fake cried.
"I'm not gonna kill you! Stop saying that!" the swordsman yelled.
I pushed Usopp behind me and held up a hand, joining in the Usopp Original Play, "Don't start fights like always, meathead! Calm down!"
"What is wrong with you two?!"
A blast went off and Zoro deflected the iron ball that was shot at us out of nowhere, then Luffy took to bouncing the other oncoming shots as well. Their bazooka things aimed at the water after that, seeming to have realized that devil fruit users were on this small boat. It finally capsized when Luffy pissed off the captain and made the boss fire his bazooka at us. After that, all I knew was that I was freezing cold and in equally freezing water. I think Usopp was holding me right now and Zoro was just now dragged underwater by sharks, but I was not feeling the will to try to understand anything else that was going on besides that.
Well, until Usopp and Zoro pulled everyone onto the top of an iceberg. I was shivering like no tomorrow while I tried to stand up. I can now see that Brook was the one who saved us from sleeping with the fishes, or rather sharks in this situation.
"Hey! Where'd they go?!" Brownbeard panicked, seeing the sharks cut up in the water instead of us.
"Here!" Luffy called out, shivering just as much as the rest of us.
"You came just in time, Brook," Robin commented, also freezing cold. Brook laughed happily at the praise.
"You've really done it now, you half man, half beast freaks! Do you really think my training was so weak, that I'd die to some sharks?!" Zoro growled down at the group of centaurs. He was crossing his arms, trying to keep from getting frostbite. We all had ice forming on us at this point. "But... the human body...cannot train against the cold..."
"Freezing... I'm turning into ice!" Luffy cried through chattering teeth.
"I told... you guys... that trying to cross the frozen lands... in these clothes-"
"But, look. We're in luck. We should be thankful... that we met them..." Robin interrupted in a weak mutter, crouching down and hugging herself to try to get some kind of warmth.
All of our eyes locked onto the people surrounding Brownbeard. "That one will do... I'm taking the fourth one from the right," Zoro claimed.
"I've decided... I'm taking the one next to him," Luffy followed.
"I'll take that one... The one the girl at the far left is wearing..." Robin declared.
"I'm picking the closest one," I said, having activated my devil fruit so I didn't feel like dying and looking at the closest guy I could locate. Could I still feel cold with the activation of my fruit? Yes. Was it nearly as bad as before? No.
The four of us smirked evilly and stared each of our victims down. "Those clothes look warm," we all said in sync.
"Alright, go! Get one for me too..." Usopp cheered.
We pounced right after the group of centaurs seemed to realize who we were. It was already too late.
~~~
There was a huge crashing sound in the distance as we sat on Brownbeard's back. Luffy was making him run towards the building that Brook had said the others we taken into since we easily beat the crocodile centaur up.
"Fine! Then run faster! To the building Brook said he saw! We've got to hurry and rescue everyone!" Luffy ordered after the man refused to answer what the crash was about.
"How humiliating... he's just a kid and he cruelly stole my underlings coats! You damn highway men!"
"Stop trying to make us look like the bad guys! You attacked us first. This crocodile guy doesn't seem to regret his actions at all," Zoro grunted from beside me.
"Anyway, Brook, you've got no skin so why did you take a coat?" Usopp questioned.
"I do have feelings. I'm so happy that I found you all safe and sound, I want to share the feeling of being cold with you!" the skeleton explained.
"That's actually kinda cute," I piped up.
The man turned to me, "Ah, (y/n)-san, may I see your panties?"
"I take it back."
Robin spoke up after my change of heart, saying, "I feel bad for Nami and the others. They didn't get the chance to change their clothes before being kidnapped. I hope their limbs didn't fall off from frostbite."
"Stop it, Robin! Don't worry in such a cruel way!" Usopp snapped.
"(y/n), would you like to switch coats?" she asked me out of the blue, paying the sniper no mind.
I blinked and quirked a brow, "Why would I want to change coats?"
"You're swimming in the one that you stole, that's why," Zoro stated.
I looked down, seeing that I did in fact have a very large coat on. There were a bunch of big guys there, what do you expect from me? I just wanted warmth and to not be heavy as hell. Trudging through snow when being waaayyy heavier than in base form is the worst. The coats are already big because they're freaking centaurs anyway. "No, I'm alright. You wouldn't be any better off with the coat anyway, Robin," I responded. Even if she was taller than me (I just looked it up, she a stallion. A beauty. A model. 6'2.), the sleeves and everything would be just as big, or even bigger on her.
She nodded. I just leaned against Usopp, looking back at where we just left. I wonder what the others are up to.
