90: Can't win them all

19:09, 2 May 2023

We probably should have thought about morning. I wake up in a groggy bliss, that only lasted only a moment. I noticed the sun well up into the morning and a sleeping, naked, Bokuto still in my bed at my side. Turned over on his stomach, arms wrapped beneath his pillow.

This house hole wakes at freaking dawn, I know we out slept everyone. Meaning everyone would know that Bokuto is not where he should have been.

"We're dead," I shake Bokuto but he doesn't move with as much urgency as I'd like, "Bokuto get up, we overslept."

He groans, places his hands down and pushes up, "I'm up, I'm up." Before flopping back to the pillow, "I'm down."

"Get up, I don't wanna die like this," I push him, but he doesn't move. Had to fall in love with such a solid guy.Though I wasn't complaining about these muscles last night.

He sits up slowly. "I don't know. I feel like last night was a good note to go on."

I give him another useless push, "Just go get cleaned up and get dressed."

"Fine," He groans, crawling out of my bed. He snatches his clothes from the floor and throws them on as he moves toward the door. He peeks out first, checking the hall before rushing out and across the hall to JK's room. There's a 50/50 chance that the twins could have rated us out. There's no telling with those guys. And Ros, she just love to drop hints and her mother us always picking up on those hints. As if aunty needs hints. She can probably smell it on me.

Literally smell it on me, shit.

I didn't think sex had a smell, but it does. And it's all over me and my bed.

I hop up and rush for the shower and sprayed some perfume over my bed before heading downstairs. The maids will clear my bed anyway, but I'd rather the maids didn't talk either. Their the twin's number one source.

Bokuto made it downstairs before me. He sat with my family and his mother at the dining room table, which has already been cleared.

Hana noticed me first, smiling. "Oh cousin, nice of you to join us."

"Good morning everyone," I say as I walk into the room.

Uncle Kaoru jokes. "Is it still morning?"

They all seem too light to know anything.

KJ laughs saying, "The way Bokuto was knocked out last night. I wasn't sure if he would ever wake up."

"Show her the picture," Ros chuckles. And now I know, my cousins have decided to side with me this time. They have a cover story, with evidence. Bokuto was in KJ's room, where he was supposed to be.

My cousins all laugh as KJ pulls his phone out and Bokuto cries, "Come on!" Falling straight in line with fib being told.

KJ turns his phone and just as he said. There was a picture of Bokuto, squeezing the life out of a pillow, curled up on a futon on KJ's bedroom floor.

He planned for the day we messed up. He knew this was coming. And I happy to be on his good side at the moment.

Aunt Bri claps her hands together gathering everyone's attention, "Alright, my children time to head out. We have a few things to discuss."

"But Mom," the chorus starts but aunty shit it down with a wave of her hand, "One of you tell the cooks to whip up some breakfast for Zara and Bokuto, while you are on your way to mind your own business."

"Yes mother," my cousins groan as they head out of the dining room. Leaving aunt Bri, uncle Kaoru, my sister, my Mom, Mrs. B, and my grandparents. Adult conversation. And Bokuto and I are adults now, I guess.

"So," Uncle Kaoru dives right in, "Bokuto your father has not been arrested and is still in the home on a leave from work. Because of that, we don't feel comfortable putting you or your mother back in that home so-"

"I'm fine," Mrs. B pleas, "Really, he's my husband. I can go home, I can handle him. If you keep my sin away from the house then things will be better, I mean-"

"That's a dumb plan," Grandpa blurted. "You have a free escape plan and people with money and power willing to back you and you want to got back to the drunk that beats you?"

"Mom, think about this," Bokuto begs.

But his Mom only looks down at her hands in her lap, "I'll be fine… things were okay before the kids came… maybe now that Bokuto will be leaving, it could go back?"

"She's hopeless," My mom sighs.

But Aunty sits tall saying, "Just hear my offer first. I'm not the biggest fan of sending my loved ones places with no one they know nearby. So what I can arrange is a move. Set you up in a small house, not too far from NCU, Zara and Bokuto will be just 20 minutes away. We already have a job lined up for you and the home is ready to go. We can have you on a plan graduation night if you want. And the home is not connected to any names your husband can trace. You could disappear. Pick yourself and your children. Or you could stay and pick the man who died long ago. Your choice. We will not attempt to persuade you otherwise.

Though I can't speak for your son."

"Mom, come on. Just get away from the nut already. Maybe your daughters will even come back."

Aunty and her husband gave each other glances. It's not well known that Bokuto has two older sisters. Who left the moment they could and never came back.

Mrs. B's brows pulled together and she muttered, "My daughters left me."

"No," Bokuto corrects, fist balled on the table, "They left him, and I'm about to to… I was just hoping you'd be brave enough to go with me… but your just-"

"Bokuto," Uncle Kaoru stopped him, "That's still your mother."

Grandma chimed in, "She's a grown woman. She can make her own choices. And she can change her mind too, but," Grandma stood up and started for the door as she says, "I taught my children not to help others more than they help themselves. My daughter will put her hand out, but if you don't take it, she might not reach again. Husband. Let's go. I want to go to that shop I like while I'm here."

Grandpa got up with a nod and followed his wife out of the room. The cooks came in with plates of food and set them down before me and Bokuto. Neither of us reached for it.

We just listen as Aunt Bri said, "Another matter is the school. I'm pretty sure you guys will me suspended, but with graduation being so close that's probably ideal. I'll pitch that you guys arrive for the pep rally, then stay away until graduation. You two can stay here in the meantime and Bokuto, you're free to stay with us until you head for NCU. Sounds good?"

Bokuto and I both give a simple thumbs up. Aunty stands along with everyone else, "Alright. We'll let you two eat your breakfast. Feel free to just rest today, I'm sure you could use it after the work you two put in this week."

They leave and we stay quiet, food stays untouched.

"You okay?"

"Can't help people more than they help themselves, right?" He sighs, reaches for his fork and takes a bite.

He's pissed he can't save her. Not this time.
