Chapter 49
17:00, 8 October 2021I came to and felt the cool wind on my face. I opened my eyes and the first thing I saw was a bloodied Loki's face. His brows were furrowed in worry, his jaw clenched, but his green eyes were bright again. I felt the knife still in me and did my best not to move.
"Loki?" I whispered. He looked down at me and his worry only seemed to worsen. I assume I look pretty bad.
"Shhhh." He gently shushed me as he looked back ahead of himself.
"Where are we going?" I weakly asked.
"You are too injured to teleport, we are flying back to S.H.I.E.L.D's base." He informed me, his voice was cold but I knew that it was because he was hiding his fear.
"Can't you heal me?" I asked as I laid my head against his chest and closed my eyes. I felt so weak and dizzy, I felt like I was drifting off to sleep.
"I...tried. You were poisoned like the Thors and...I don't know if it...and the knife...are harming other things." He didn't want to straight up say he wasn't sure if the knife killed our baby, but I get that.
"If it did...I cannot heal both. Believe it or not, I am limited." He admitted before swallowing hard.
"You're telling me that all of your astonishing, glorious, perplexing, curious, breathtakingly unbelievable magic can't heal a little wound like this?" With my eyes still closed, I forced myself to laugh but it hurt, so my laugh turned into a wince and I furrowed my brows.
"Alex." Loki warned as his eyes shot down to me.
"I know I know." I waved him off as I relaxed my face and body.
*Loki's POV*
I felt Alex relax into me but her breathing was becoming shallow. I stopped flying and felt tears swelling in my eyes as I stared down at her. Her beautiful face had that retched man's blood splattered all over it. I have never felt fear like I do right now. Fear of losing her and or our baby.
"Brother?" Thor called out to me. I sniffed and shook my head as I looked over at him, the tears escaping my eyes.
"She will not make the flight, brother. She is dying." I choked out.
"Isn't she immortal?" Peter asked as he flew back over to us. I wiped my tears and inhaled as I looked back down at her face. Her pale pale pale face.
"Yes, as is Thor and I, but...Tony had a poison that almost took my brother out. A concoction made by Evil Loki no doubt." I harshly replied. There are ways around immortality and Evil Loki knew this, pushing him to create a poison that could kill Gods. I could not heal the poison, even if I really tried, like with the Thors, and the baby being involved makes it messy. I was not sure if I could heal it or if that would do damage if I tried.
"So...what do we do?" Sebastian asked. Second Thor had the honor of carrying him. I did not know him but he was able to weird the hammer, so I trusted him.
"We must take her to Asgard." My Thor nodded before his eyes closed and he inhaled. He and Second Thor were still very weak from the poison and I felt so hopeless because I couldn't help any of them.
"Perhaps Odin can help us." He added as he opened his eyes.
"He might be able to." Second Thor nodded as he tightened his grip on Sebastian.
"Why is Alex so much worse than both Thors?" Peter asked as he crossed his arms and looked between the three.
"Well, Spider, since you bring it up." My Thor nodded before hunching over and vomiting to the world below us. The wind blew some of it to the side and around, causing all of us to cringe and move quickly. Second Thor closed his eyes and shook his head as he began slowly floating to the ground. He caught himself and nodded at Peter.
"We're just hiding it better." He said.
"I think I'd feel safer if the tree carried me." Sebastian nervously chuckled.
"Good idea. You will all ride with the Elders. We will call upon Heimdall and-"
"Heimdall is dead." Second Thor interrupted me.
"What?" My brother and I both asked him with surprised brows raised.
"Evil Loki killed him first to stop him from closing the bifrost and warning Odin." Second Thor explained as we all slowly floated down to the ground and waited for The Elder to catch up. He had the two other beings on his shoulders.
"Then how do you travel?" My Thor asked as he leaned against a tree and closed his eyes.
"Evil Loki....kept Heimdall's eyes and hands and used them to create his own personal bifrost." Second Thor explained.
"Jesus." Peter scoffed.
"Since it's the only thing we have left, we still use it. But your people have created an alternative and we'll be able to lay all of Heimdall to rest." Second Thor nodded as he slumped down and leaned back against the same tree my Thor was against.
"After we heal all of you. Get the bifrost here however you do it." I firmly nodded before looking down at my sweet Alex. Her breathing was now slower than a few moments ago and her body was limp. I felt my heart fall to pieces in my chest as the others approached us. The two Thors leaned against the Elder and the others placed their hands on him. I touched my foot against my brother's and Second Thor reached into his pocket and pulled out a small button with the same symbols as mine and Alex's uniform. He pressed it and the bright bifrost overcame us and I let out a small exhale as we were taken away.
We landed in what used to be Heimdall's place and I examined the destruction done to it. It was almost unrecognizable. Second Thor fell into Sebastian and the human helped him walk out of the room. We walked down the broken and beaten rainbow bridge and into the sad city that was once Asgard. Warriors glared at me as we passed by. They were trying to rebuild but it was a clear struggle. We walked up the palace steps and through the large doors. We were greeted by no one. We continued down the hallways and stopped at Odin's throne room doors.
"I haven't been home in months." Second Thor admits with a weak laugh. The doors opened and I felt my heart tug at the sight of this Odin. He looked exactly like mine and it brought memories out of me, memories I tried to forget so I could heal from his death.
"Son?" Odin cautiously asked as he walked down the steps and towards us. The two Thors fell to their knees while Sebastian and Peter tried to keep them up.
"We have been poisoned with something strong enough to out damage Loki's heal." Second Thor's voice was shaky. He closed his eyes and fell forward, passing out. Odin knelt down next to the God and the my Thor's eyes rolled into the back of his head and he passed out too.
"And the girl?" Odin asked as he looked over at me.
"Is she a Goddess?" He asked while staring at her injured body.
"No." I honestly answered.
"Then I have no time, supplies, nor want to bother. Take her back from which she came." He waved me off as two guards walked over to us.
"She is carrying the child of a God." I quickly added. This peaked Odin's attention and he motioned for his guards to back off.
"I see." He replied as he looked away from Alex and down to the two Thors.
"Bring them to the infirmary at once." He ordered his men. They waited for Odin to move away and then lifted the Thors up in pairs and carried them to the infirmary down the hall. I followed and set Alex down in a bed between the Gods and gently touched her cold skin before backing away. Four nurses came in and ushered us away from the trio and out of the room. They closed the doors behind us and I furrowed my brows as worry continued to build.
Odin motioned for us to follow him but I was reluctant to leave. Peter assured me she would be okay and I sighed as I followed the group down to the garden. The Elder stayed outside with Lithitam and Beraoin, they did not feel it was right of them to enter such a place as this and the Elder was too tired from the fighting. Sebastian and Peter relaxed on the single bench in the garden room and I stood by the small pond as I remembered preforming the spell on Alex and my father. I have not been to the garden room since that day.
"The way that you and your Thor were looking at me back there tells me your version of me has passed." Odin suddenly said as he put his arms behind his back and stared at my reflection in the pond.
"He has." I nodded.
"In battle?" Odin questioned.
"No. Something far more honorable." I replied as I glanced over at his reflection.
"What could give a more honorable death other than battle?" Odin chuckled as he looked away from the pond and over at me. I tore my eyes from the water and met his as I clenched my jaw.
"His life for the immortality of the woman carrying the child." I proudly replied.
"He gave his life for a human?!" Odin scoffed.
"What madness! I love and care deeply for my Thor but I would never give my life for a mere human, with child or not." He half laughed.
"The child is not Thor's." I harshly said as I gripped intertwined hands together. Odin's face slowly came to realization as he stared into my eyes.
"It is a child of a Loki. The last Loki. The...good Loki." His words were softer this time.
"By giving his life he secured the future of my family as well as all of Asgard and Midgard." I nodded.
"My Thor and I rule together." I added.
"That is not something I ever thought possible." Odin had a hint of a smile forming on his lips but he quickly forced it away.
"I take it your Frigga is delighted to finally have a grandchild." He chuckled as he looked back over the pond. Realizing I hadn't seen Frigga since arriving and that it was unlike the woman to not greet guests, especially when one was her son, I looked back over the pond with Odin.
"She is. Where is your Frigga?" I asked.
"Died. Loki killed her." Odin's voice was low and sad but he tried his best to hide it.
"I am sorry." I sincerely replied.
"She tried to talk to boy out of it. He had killed Heimdall and a few guards when she intercepted him. His last words to her were 'you are not my mother.' And then he stabbed her." Odin swallowed hard as he furrowed his brows.
"Does my being here stir your emotions?" I asked as I glanced over at him.
"No." He cleared his throat.
"No. I know the difference between my Loki and you. I cannot blame you for his wrongdoings." He nodded.
"Thank you." It was a relief to hear that someone wasn't angry or hateful towards me because of Evil Loki's actions. It felt even better knowing that that someone was Odin.
"Excuse me? Prince...Loki?" A small voice asked from behind us. We turned and one of the nurses stood at the entrance, her white gown covered in blood.
"What has happened? Are they okay??" I asked as I quickly walked towards her. She flinched at this and I slowed my walking as she collected herself.
"We managed to find an antidote for them. They're recovering." She nodded.
"And the child?" My voice was loud and scared and I didn't care to hide it anymore.
"He is okay." She smiled a little. Relief washed over me and I felt the tears building up in my eyes over her words. I looked down as Peter and the others joined me and then I wiped my eyes as I furrowed my brows and looked back at the nurse.
"H-He?" I half laughed as I ran my fingers through my messy hair. Her eyes went wide when she realized I didn't know the gender.
"No way." Peter excitedly laughed.
"I-I, w-when we were checking for damage w-we, t-the, we had to do an ultrasound and...saw...it. I-I'm sorry I-I didn't know." She cautiously stuttered as she took a step back. It was clear she was terrified of me because of what her Loki did to her but I couldn't blame her.
"No, it's okay. Alex didn't want to know until it was born but I desperately did. Thank you." I smiled at her, calming her down.
"Can we see them?" Peter asked as he put his arm around my shoulder. I shrugged him off and he rolled his eyes as the nurse nodded. We followed her back to the infirmary room and my heart dropped when I saw the swarm of nurses surrounding Alex's bed.
"What is happening??" The nurse who brought us here asked as she rushed over.
"She started convulsing." One quickly replied as a few tried to hold Alex's shaking body still. Both Thors laid awake in bed watching in worry as more nurses rushed into the room. They began shouting over one another about medicine and her condition but everything soon turned to white noise as I watched on. I tried to connect my mind to hers to help her calm down but once the connection was made, I was greeted by horrific screaming. She then disconnected herself from me... somehow. The world moved in slow motion as they nurses tried to save her.
*Alex's POV*
I opened my eyes and stared up at the black sky. I was covered in blood, my whole body hurt and all I could smell was burning flesh. I slowly got to my feet and coughed from the smoky air as I squinted my eyes and looked around. I took a few steps forward and tripped over something, causing me to fall back down. I rolled over and sat up as I looked down at my feet. My eyes went wide and my body tenses when I saw that it was an older version of my Tony, dead. HIs eyes had dried blood coming from them and his skin was covered in ash.
"Wh-What the fuck?" I asked as I slowly stood up. I threw my hands out and the smoke cleared, revealing that I was standing in Tony's living room, the ceiling almost completely gone and the walls still burning. I heard whimpering coming the kitchen so I cautiously made my way around the body and into the kitchen. There, I found an older Pepper crying on the floor in the corner by a busted elevator. Her knees were to her chest and her body was covered in blood and ash.
"Mom?" I worryingly asked. Pepper's eyes met mine and she gasped as she tried to back up even more.
"Stay away from me!" She screamed.
"What? Why? What happened??" I asked as I looked around the destroyed area.
"I'm not dumb! I know who you really are!" She began crying again as she put her head on her knees. I walked over to her and knelt down but she pushed me away, causing me to fall over on my butt. My rapid and shaky breathing filled the silent air as I stared at Pepper.
"Wh-" Before I could finish my sentence the building began to violently shake around us. I grabbed the wall for support and pulled myself up to my feet as the fire behind us spread.
"We have to get out of here!" I yelled as I reached for Pepper. She covered her ears with her hands and shook her head as she cried.
"The whole building is gonna go down!" I took a step forward to grab her but a large concrete piece from the ceiling above us came crashing down between us. I pushed the dust away and inhaled hard when I realized Pepper was completely gone. I furrowed my brows in confusion because there was no way out from her side, the elevator was broken and she was cut off from the rest of the apartment.
"M-Mom?" I called out as I turned around and looked for her. I saw some light shining down from one of the holes in the ceiling and carefully walked over to it. I shielded my eyes from the falling dust and squinted as I looked up at the source. It was the sun shining in the blue sky. I looked back down and gasped when I saw that the apartment was completely fine and Tony's dead body was gone. I looked back up and the hole was gone. I heard Pepper crying once again but this time she was upstairs. I ran up the steps but the few that were there turned into hundreds. I stared up at the never ending staircase and slowly took a few steps back. I turned to go back into the living room but saw that it was gone and all I could see was more never-ending staircase.
"Okay, just...think." I nodded as I sat down with my back against the wall. I closed my eyes and when I opened them back up, I was standing in the apartment once again but there was a little boy sitting on the couch and crying. His face was buried in a pillow and Pepper was comforting him.
"Mom?" I called out. Neither of them replied or even looked over at me. Like I was invisible.
"What the hell is going on?" I half laughed as I ran my hands down my face. I dropped them and tensed up when I saw that the apartment was gone and I was standing on top of our building, overlooking the beautiful city. The sun was suddenly covered by dark clouds and people below me began screaming as they ran away from something.
"Peter?" I asked as I watched Peter swing towards me in his costume. He landed next to me and grabbed my by the throat and began squeezing.
"Peter?!" I called out as he lifted me up to my tippy toes. I tried to phase out of him but my powers weren't working anymore. His mask left his face and I could see that his eyes were swollen, like he had been crying and his overall face looked older. At least 20 years older.
"You killed them." He whispered as he tightened his grip.
"Killed....who...?" I forced the question out. A loud, deep voice screaming at us to stop drew our attention.
"An illusion." He harshly scoffed as he stared into my eyes. Peter dropped me as his mask formed on his face once again and then jumped from the building, swinging towards the voice. The voice felt familiar to me and I clenched my jaw as I ran to the edge of the roof. I frantically looked around the air and buildings until I spotted the figure. He was wearing all black, his long wavy black hair was a mess as the harsh wind blew it, and he had a plain black mask covering his face, apart from his eyes. One iris was bright green and one was a greyish white color. I furrowed my brows and swallowed hard as his eyes connected with mine. He disappeared and the air went silent and dead, it felt like I couldn't breathe. I took a step back and bumped right into him. I tensed up and closed my eyes for moment before opening them and turning around. I stared up at the figure and he tilted his head to the left as he stared back down at me.
"Wha-" I was interrupted once more as a bullet hit the figure from behind. Startled by this, I jumped back and closed my eyes tightly. I quickly opened them and my eyes fell to the bleeding wound in the figure's chest. He straightened his head and looked down at his wound as well, his body tensing up. The bullet fell from his chest and his wound healed right before my eyes.
"No...no, no, no." I whispered to myself as I looked back up into his eyes. Everything that was happening, the eye color, the black hair, the lean figure, the self healing, was telling me this was Loki.
"What have you done?" I whispered as I gently reached my hand out towards him. I put my hand on the side of his face and he closed his eyes as he relaxed into me. Another shot echoed through the air and everything began to move in slow motion as he opened his eyes. I slowly turned my head to the left as Loki put his hands on my chest. He pushed me back as the bullet zoomed past my face. I hit the ground and the world returned to it's normal speed as Loki snapped his head in the shooters direction. I followed his gaze and my eyes went wide in shock when I realized it was Bucky, Steve and an older looking Sam.
"Oskar, you have to stop!" Bucky yelled out, his gun now pointing at the man. I furrowed my brows as I looked back at the figure in confusion. The figure pulled his mask down and smirked at the men, revealing to me that he wasn't Loki, but a young man who looked similar to Loki.
"I will stop once all of The Avengers are dead!" He harshly yelled back.
"It wasn't our fault!" Steve yelled out.
"Of course it was!" Oskar screamed as he threw his hands out towards the men. Bucky's gun crushed in his hands, Sam's wings tore from his back and Steve's shield flew from his hands and threw the air back towards Oskar. He caught it with his hand and gripped down on it, causing the shield to crumble in his hands.
"Oh my god." I whispered as I watched with fearful eyes.
"She knew the risks when becoming an Avenger, so did your father!" Steve yelled out. This only angered Oskar more, causing him to scream out in pain. The air became thin and the men began gasping for air as they fell to their knees.
"Stop!" I cried out. Oskar's eyes snapped over to me and the three men gasped for air as I held his attention.
"Why should I?" He asked, his voice calmer and more curious to my answer instead of angry and hateful.
"I-I don't know what happened but I can assure you that killing them won't fix it." I softly said as I slowly stood up.
"You see her, don't you?" Steve asked as he and the others slowly made their way towards Oskar. He glared over at them and a light green aura surrounded us, preventing them from getting any closer.
"You're father saw her too, ya know. That's why he locked himself back up on the Hellicarrier. He thought he was going crazy." Steve's voice was soft as he walked around the aura and behind Oskar. I suddenly realized that Oskar was my son and I had named him after the planet Evil Loki was defeated on. I felt tears building in my eyes as I stared up at my grown son, my angry, dangerous boy.
"I know what happened." Oskar snapped as he looked over to the right and at Steve, who had stopped walking.
"Then you know we didn't have any control over what happened." Bucky pleaded as he stood on Oskar's left. Peter had landed behind Oskar and Sam took a spot in front of him as he returned his gaze back to me.
"What happened?" I softly asked Oskar as I slowly stood up. He gripped his fists at his sides and tensed his jaw as he stared down at me.
"When I was 10 years old, aliens invaded Earth. They...had the ability to control the minds of humans and Asgardians. The Avengers thought it would be best to send you and father to fight them, alone." He began as he furrowed his brows.
"They did that because father would often have the three of us practice mind control tricks to protect us from others who could do it, so The Avengers felt you were the only two strong enough to handle it." He continued.
"The aliens still managed...to...get into your minds and pinned you against each other. The fight traveled all over New York and caused so much damage. At one point, you crashed through grandpa's ceiling and father landed on top of you. I desperately tried to help but members of The Avengers tore me from the scene. In the end, father killed you while under their control. It was brutal....and it killed him. After that, The Avengers decided to join the fight and managed to take the invaders out." He said as he shook his head and furrowed his brows.
"Father was going mad with guilt and...as you heard Steve say, he locked himself up in the glass cage on the Hellicarrier. He died there, alone." Oskar said as he stared down into my eyes. Hearing that broke me more than hearing I had died. I wasn't sure if this was a dream or I was seeing the future somehow, but I hated it.
"I vowed to destroy the worthless Avengers who caused your death." He harshly said as he looked over at Steve, who tensed up.
"No." I quickly said as I grabbed his hands.
"I don't want that." I begged. Oskar looked back down at me and furrowed his brows as he watched the tears fall from my eyes.
"They easily defeated the alien invaders. Ha-Had-" He laughed a little as he shook his head.
"Had they just helped from the start you wouldn't have been killed! Father wouldn't have been so...guilt ridden." He scoffed.
"I knew the risks. We both did." I argued. He tore his hands from mine and took a step back as he clenched his jaw.
"That doesn't excuse the negligence of the other members!" He screamed at me.
"No, but it also doesn't mean you need to get "revenge" for our deaths!" I yelled back.
"It does!" His eyes began to lighten up a little, as if a small flashlight was shining on them.
"If you think you have to kill your friends and family to avenge me because of mine and your father's choices, then we raised you wrong." I sternly replied.
*Loki's POV*
The nurses still couldn't calm Alex. Both Thors left the room to give them more space to work on her. I stood next to the doorway and watched in horror as her heart rate rapidly increased and her convulsing worsened.
"Son." Odin suddenly said, pulling my eyes from Alex and over to him. He was looking over at Second Thor, who had his arms crossed and his eyes on Alex as well. Second Thor looked over at Odin and raised a brow, waiting for him to speak again.
"When you were passed out and received the antidote, what happened inside of your mind?" He asked as he raised his own brow.
"It felt like a war had started. I was desperate to find the way out but...everything turned dark. A nightmare took over." He explained as he tensed up.
"Same for me too." My Thor nodded. I snapped my fingers and a black eyepatch, similar to our father's golden one, appeared over his wounded eye. It was gross to look at.
"Thank you." He nodded as he gently touched it.
"As I was saying, it was like the nightmares I used to have as a child, but instead of snakes, it was Jane. She was being tortured by my enemies and there was nothing I could do to stop it." He added.
"Mine was Clint's death. He's currently in another universe helping others, but, man it felt so real.." Second Thor said as he looked down.
"So...it is possible that this is all caused by her trying to fight her way out of her...nightmare?" I asked as I looked back over at Alex.
"Perhaps." Odin nodded.
"Then all we can do it wait..." I sighed.
