Chapter 37
16:58, 8 October 2021*Alex's POV. 1 Month Later*
It's been a little over one month since Odin gave his life for me and the guilt has started to slowly go away. I still worry Loki and his family blame me for Odin's death, but they've been nothing but kind and loving to me. The Asgardian nurse who examined me told me I should see a human doctor on Earth as well a monthly visits to Asgardian doctors. Pepper made an appointment as soon as we got back to Earth the day after Odin's funeral. Buuuut she booked an appointment with a normal citizen doctor and I found it hard to talk to her about everything. The baby inside of me was half God and none of us knew what kind of powers it would posse or how it would affect my body. Tony had me come to the Hellicarrier and meet with the doctor who helped me when I first discovered I had powers.
I found out her name is Harper Cunningham. She's been so understanding and helpful since I started seeing her. I found out today that I'm around 2 months along and the baby is growing very quickly. Loki's worried that his Frost Giant DNA will cause problems, but I'm not too worried about it.
"Hey." I greeted Peter as he and Eddie walked into Tony's living room. We decided not to tell anyone that I was pregnant because there was honestly no need for it. Loki was my partner out in the field, he was the only one who needed to worry about me.
"How was your vacation?" Peter asked as he plopped down on the couch next to me. Eddie sat in the loveseat and put his feet up on the coffee table as he leaned back.
"Good. We just did a lot of sleeping and eating." I laughed as I crossed my arms over my chest. Dr. Cunningham said I was lucky so far since I wasn't experiencing any morning sickness or cravings, yet. Eddie twitched a little and then quickly sat up as he stared at me. I raised a brow and Peter furrowed his as we watched Eddie twitch again before his eyes slowly examined me.
"What?" I asked him. Eddie's eyes lingered on my stomach and I tensed up as I adjusted my arms so that they were hiding my stomach.
"Nothing." He replied as he relaxed and leaned back.
"Are you sure?" Peter asked his friend as he narrowed his eyes a little.
"Yeah, Venom is just hungry is all." Eddie shrugged.
"T.J!!" Tony yelled out from the lab below us.
"What??" I yelled back.
"Porker here yet??" He asked.
"Yeah!" I yelled out before looking over at Peter.
"He needs help with some new weapon he's making for his suit." I informed him as the man stood up.
"Porker!!" Tony called out. Peter rolled his eyes but smiled as he walked away from us and down the steps to the stairs. Eddie jumped up from his seat and took Peter's place next to me, a wide smile on his face.
"What?" I asked, raising my brow. Eddie and I had grown to become friends over the years and he was weird, but he was acting even weirder right now.
"Venom can sense it." He quietly said.
"Sense what???" I asked, narrowing my eyes. Eddie inhaled and quickly looked around the room before leaning in close to me.
"The baby." He whispered. My eyes went wide and Eddie happily nodded as he looked down to my stomach.
"Symbiotes can sense thoughts and emotions of other creatures, he said he can sense two presences in you." Eddie shrugged as he leaned back and put his feet back up on the coffee table. Eddie was engulfed in black goo and Venom appeared as he sat up and looked over at me. He looked down at my stomach again and then smiled.
"Shut it." I harshly said before he could ask any questions. He formed back into normal Eddie and I shook my head as I exhaled and leaned my head back.
"Can he keep a secret?" I asked, staring up at the ceiling.
"Nope." Eddie said, popping the 'P' at the end. I groaned and closed my eyes as I uncrossed my arms and ran one hand down my face.
"Why do you wanna keep it a secret anyway?" He asked. I looked over at him and then sat up before looking around to make sure no one was around. The team likes to sneak into Tony's place to try and scare him.
"Because I don't want anyone to make a big deal about it. At least, not right now." I said as I shrugged a little.
"Can you still go on missions?" He asked me, raising a curious brow.
"Yeah." I shrugged again.
"I'm only 2 months along and Loki's with me all the time. No reason to sit around doing nothing." I added.
"Isn't it dangerous?" He asked as he looked down at my stomach.
"Maybe. I mean, everything is technically dangerous when you're pregnant. Cars, stairs, untied shoelaces, doors swinging open." I replied.
"But I'm not exactly a normal human and this isn't exactly a normal pregnancy." I laughed a little.
"Well, we're happy for you, congrats." Eddie smiled as he looked back up at me.
"Thank you." I happily said as I smiled back.
The elevator to Tony's living room opened up and Fury walked in with his two agents following close behind him. He looked pissed. His harsh eye landed on me and I lost my smile as I stood up from the couch.
"What's wrong?" I asked him.
"What's wrong is I've been calling all of you for the past 20 minutes! We have a very important meeting about to start on the Hellicarrier! Or did you all forget that we're briefing the new President today?!" He screamed out at me.
"I'ma be honest, I did forget that was today." I nodded a little.
"Me too." Tony said as he and Peter walked up the steps from the lab. Fury exhaled hard and clenched his jaw as he looked over at the billionaire.
"Get there, now." He harshly said through his clenched teeth. Tony saluted him like the ass he is and then winked before walking over to his balcony. Peter and the rest of us followed close behind him and his and Peter's suit's slowly formed on the pair.
"When am I gonna get a cool suit?" Eddie asked as he crossed his arms.
"You have a cool suit, it's called Venom." Tony replied as he rolled his eyes and flew into the air. He flew off and Peter threw a web, catching the ankle of Tony and pulling him up and into the air with him.
"Yeah, but Eddie wants a cool suit too!" Eddie yelled out.
"In time." I laughed as I patted his shoulder. I flew off into the air and caught up with Tony and Peter as Peter threw another web, catching the under part of the Hellicarrier. He climbed up to the deck as Tony and I landed, the others were already waiting for us. Loki and Thor went to Asgard to organize some things a few days ago and this was the first time seeing the pair since. I rushed into Loki's arms and he kissed the top of my head as he hugged me back.
"Save it!" Fury yelled out from the small plane he and his agents were exiting. I rolled my eyes and let Loki go as Fury stormed past us. We followed him into the Hellicarrier and to the large conference room, where the new President was waiting for us. He was Brad's vice President and after the world learned of Brad's death, he was appointed President. It took a few months to make it official and Fury felt that since Brad was involved with us, Oliver should be too. Oliver was a few years younger than Brad, he had light blonde hair and bright baby blue eyes. I didn't know a lot about him since I didn't vote for Brad, but I heard he was nicer than the former President.
"Hello President Durbin, so sorry to keep you waiting." Fury said in his professional voice. Oliver was sitting in Fury's seat at the head of the table. We all took our seats and Oliver inhaled as he looked down to the files sitting in front of him. They were all of our files, everything S.H.I.E.L.D knew about us, our powers, our families, our past.
"No worries. It just gave me more time to read over everything here." He smiled as he looked back at us.
"Since they are grown people, I'll let them introduce themselves." Fury nodded as he looked over at Steve and put his arms behind his back. Steve quickly stood up and saluted the President before putting his hands behind his back as well and clearing his throat.
"Sit, son." President Durbin said as he looked away from Steve and down to the files. It was funny to hear him say that considering Steve was at least 30 years older than the guy. Steve sat back down and raised a brow as he looked around at the others.
"I already know a lot about you guys." President Durbin said as he looked up and around the table.
"Tony Stark. Billionaire turned hero." He said as his eyes landed on Tony. Tony leaned back in his chair and raised an unamused brow at the man.
"Steve Rogers. American Hero." He nodded, looking over at Steve, who nodded back and crossed his arms.
"Thor. God of Thunder and now King of Asgard." His attention pulling over to Thor. Thor proudly smiled at that.
"Loki. Villain turned hero." He said as he nodded at Loki. Loki crossed his arms and also leaned back in his chair like Tony, unamused and bored with this already.
"Peter Parker. Genius boy bitten by a spider and hero to the city he loves." The President said as he looked from Loki over to Peter. Peter's eyes trailed from Oliver's face to the files on the table and then back up, like he was picking something up with his senses.
"Natasha Romanoff and Clint Barton. Double trouble spies." His eyes falling on Nat and Clint. Nat just stared blankly at him and Clint raised his head a little as his eyes slightly narrowed.
"Bruce Banner and Big Green. A wonderful accident." He chuckled as he looked to Bruce. Bruce looked down and licked his lips as he leaned forward him his chair. Bruce hated that some people only saw the Hulk when looking at him and not the accomplished Bruce Banner.
"And Alex...Potts. Nice of you to change your last name to your mother's." He smiled at me. I flattened my lips in a weird awkward smile and nodded at him. He was giving off a little bit of a judgmental vibe and I could tell the others were picking up on it. Apart from Thor, as always.
"Assistant turned hero." He added as he looked away from me and back at the files.
"Now, from my understanding you guys just go out and kill bad guys?" The President asked as he looked back up at the group.
"I can assure you it's much more than that, sir. We travel all over the galaxy and even to other galaxies to help and aid those in need. We stop threats, big and small." Steven sternly nodded.
"We also try to take our...enemies alive." He added.
"And how do you get alerted to these threats?" He asked as he intertwined his hands in front of him.
"Contacts and satellites spread as far as we can get them." Tony replied.
"And how do you determine who's best for these space missions?" The President asked, looking back at Steve.
"We get as many details as we can and then go off of that. We typically send Thor, or Loki and Alex and if they're busy we call in help from Captain Marvel or the Guardians." Steve nodded as he leaned back in his chair.
"And why isn't Carol apart of the Avengers?" The President asked as he looked behind him and at Fury.
"She likes to freelance." He replied, shrugging a little.
"And the Guardians?" Oliver asked, raising a brow.
"Not my people." Fury deflected. I saw where he was going with this and so did Fury.
"Black Panther, Scarlet Witch, Venom, AntMa-"
"Look, Mr. President, all of those heros are just allies to the Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D. The Avengers and "unofficial" Avengers are the only ones I actively worry about. And these 9 right here are the only ones you should worry about." Fury sternly said as he crossed his arms over his chest.
"Actually, Mr. Fury, after this meeting you won't have to worry about any of them." Oliver smiled at Fury, who uncrossed his arms and tilted his head to the left and furrowed his brows.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Tony asked, sitting up in his chair and raising a brow. Oliver turned back around and smiled at the rest of us but this smile was very unfriendly.
"Send them in." Oliver ordered to his security man to his left. The man mumbled something into his arm mic and then the door busted open and a swat team quickly entered, guns pointed at all of us.
"What the hell is this?!" Fury shouted as the President's personal security apprehended him and cuffed his hands.
"S.H.I.E.L.D, the Avengers and all of your allies are being arrested." Oliver smiled as he stood up from his chair. The men lined up one behind each Avenger and held the tip of the guns at our heads. I tensed up, momentarily forgetting I was immortal.
"For what?" Steve scoffed as he quickly stood up. The man behind him cocked his gun and Steve exhaled as he sat back down.
"Terroristic acts, endangering the world, maybe treason." Oliver shrugged.
"Tons of little reasons too, like harboring illegal immigrants." He said as his harsh eyes darted between Loki and Thor.
"Murder, assault, possession of illegal firearms, flying without a permit or license." He added, shrugging.
"This is ridiculous." Tony scoffed.
"No. This." Oliver harshly said as he motioned to the Avengers in the room.
"Is dangerous. It brings us more problems than we need! Aliens, invasions, world ending events! All because of this little team!" He screamed out.
"Without this team, you wouldn't be here right now. None of us would! Earth would be destroyed ten times over." Fury shouted back.
"Aliens wouldn't have known we existed without your people. They would have never bothered us." Oliver argued as he glanced back at Fury.
"You truly think you can arrest us?" Loki asked, chucking to himself.
"Oh, I know I can you cocky royalty wannabe son of a bitch." The President harshly said as he looked over at Loki.
"Excuse me?" Loki's smile quickly faded and he clenched his jaw as he tensed up.
"Arrest them." Oliver ordered his men.
"Fury??" Steve asked as the men poked our heads with their guns, motioning for us to get up.
"I suggest you don't fight back!" The President yelled out. Tension was high but none of us moved from our seats. Loki slowly reached over and placed his hand over my stomach as he stared at the table. Nat and Clint already had their hands under the table, getting their guns and bow ready. Bruce was staring at the man behind me and I could sense Tony and Peter's Nanos waiting at their feet. Steve had his hands on the sides of the seat of his chair and Thor was staring out the window, preparing to call his hammer.
"You aren't arresting my team!" Fury yelled out as he pulled away from the security men.
"Steve, you're the leader for a reason." He said as the security team tackle him and held him down on his stomach. Steve looked over at Tony and then to the rest of us before lightly nodding.
"Avengers." He loudly said, the whole room going quiet. When Steve shouts out that word it always sends shivers up my spine. The men behind us cocked their guns and Oliver's smirk on his face fell.
"Assemble." Steve quickly ordered. That one little word sent us into action. Bruce immediately went Hulk and flipped the table as I phased Loki and I through it. Steve ducked down as he pulled his chair out from under him and swung it at the man behind him. Peter fell left and rolled under the table as it knocked over the men behind us and quickly suited up as he covered the guns on the floor in a thick webbing. Tony grabbed the President by the tie and pulled him out of the way as Nat shot the men next to him. Clint shot arrows into the men who were holding Fury down and Thor's hammer came crashing into the window, hitting two other men as they tried to stand up.
A stray bullet hit me in the shoulder and I winced in pain as I grabbed the wound. I could feel my body pushing it back out of me and the blood flow stopping as I healed myself. It felt pretty strange but I was all for it. This new immortality thing was gonna be great. Loki teleported us to the other side of the room to avoid any more damage. When we reappeared, I held my hand out and crushed the guns Peter didn't cover with his web.
"I told you." Fury said as Steve helped him up.
"You aren't arresting my team." He chuckled as he dusted himself off. We gathered behind Fury as Tony let Oliver go and pushed him towards his own injured men.
"Brad may have been as asshole, but at least he understood that the world needs us." Fury scoffed as he crossed his arms.
"If I can't arrest them, I'll kill them!" Oliver shouted out as he quickly pulled a gun from his waist band and shot it at Fury. I waved the bullet off to the side and crushed the gun in his hand. The others didn't even bother moving because stopping a little bullet was child's play.
"Did you just try to kill me?" Fury half laughed as he cocked his head. The President inhaled and clenched his jaw as he took a step back.
"Here's how this is gonna work, Mr. President." Fury said as he stepped towards the man. His voice was quiet but full of hidden rage and authority.
"You're gonna get your men, get on your plane, head back to the white house, classify the S.H.I.E.L.D organization from yourself and leave us alone. I'm so sick and tired of you suit wearing, office jockey, dick sucking mother fuckers thinking you know what's best for the world. I know what's best and what's best is MY Avengers and their allies." Fury sternly said as he put his hands behind his back.
"You and your government will have absolutely no involvement with my organization ever again. It ain't none of your business. You sit pretty in your oval office while we handle shit." He harshly added.
"Got it?" Fury asked, his voice returning to normal and a smile appearing on his face. Oliver swallowed hard and then quickly nodded as he took a few more steps back. He turned on his heels and ordered his men to get up before leaving the room.
"Damn straight!" Tony laughed out as he clapped a little.
"I honestly wasn't expecting shit to go down like that." Fury said as he shook his head. Oliver's men all gathered themselves up and slowly made their way out of the room, closing the door behind them.
"Hopefully this'll keep them away now." Nat shrugged as she holstered her gun.
"We'll see." Fury nodded as he crossed his arms.
"Alex, were you shot?" Bruce asked as he eyed the hole in my suit.
"What? No." I half laughed as I inched behind Loki a little to hide the evidence.
"But-"
"Now, back to work kiddos!" Fury shouted as he suddenly clapped.
"Loki and Alex." He said as he turned and looked over at us.
"Welcome back." He sweetly smiled at us. I returned his smile and Loki crossed his arms as he nodded at the man.
"You two are going to Wiltrith Z. They have some sea type creature causing chaos." He informed us.
"Now?" I asked as I looked over at Loki and then back to Fury. I really wanted some quality time with Loki since we haven't seen one another in a few days but I guess we had a whole month for that.
"Yeah." Fury nodded.
"Unless you feel too sick. I can send someone else." He added as he raised a brow. My eyes went wide and I tensed up as I quickly but slyly shook my head no, telling him to shut up. Tony said he told Fury because the pregnancy was put on my file, but I don't think he told Fury that it was a secret.
"Why would she be sick?" Clint asked as he leaned on his bow a little.
"I'm not." I quickly responded, relaxing my body to look less suspicious.
"So, why would he say that?" Peter asked me, raising me brow.
"Say what?" Loki asked him, causing him to narrow his eyes.
"That he could send someone else if she was too sick." Peter replied as he tilted his head to the left a little.
"He didn't say that." Loki shrugged.
"Don't you gaslight me." Peter warned as he raised his arm, bending it at the elbow, and pointing his finger in the air.
"What is gaslighting?" Loki whispered at me, his eyes still on Peter.
"Something you're too good at." I whispered my reply, crossing my arms.
"Are you sick, Alex?" Peter asked me, ignoring Loki.
"Nope." I responded, popping the P on the end of the word.
"Then why did Fury say that?" Bruce butted in.
"Ya know, now that we're talking about this, I did see Alex coming out of the infirmary a few weeks ago." Nat chimed in.
"Just a routine checkup." I shrugged.
"You've been on vacation for the past month. What's there to check up on?" Steve asked me, crossing his arms. I was annoyed that Fury, Thor and Tony were being quiet during this, letting me fend for myself. At least Loki kinda tried to help.
"I had the flu." I nodded at the group.
"I thought you weren't sick?" Bruce asked, narrowing his eyes at me.
"I'm a liar. Loki is just rubbing off on me, ya know. Lying, stealing, murdering, gaslighting." I sighed.
"Hey." Loki's offended voice said as he looked down at me. I looked over at him and lifted both brows as I slightly shrugged, telling him I had no idea where I was going with this. Peter suddenly shot a web over to the table and grabbed my file. I reached out for it but he had opened it and was reading before I had the chance to do anything. His eyes went wide and I sighed as I dropped my hand in defeat.
"You're pregnant?!" He asked as he lowered the file and stared at me. The other's snapped their eyes on me and I awkwardly smiled as I lifted both hands at my sides.
"Surprise..." I sang out as I did jazz hands.
"Seriously??" Nat asked as she tore the file from Peter. She read over it and then passed it around to the others as I dropped my hands and watched them read my private file.
"Pregnant with Loki's kid, huh?" Clint laughed a little as he handed the file to Bruce.
"Wait, this says you're immortal?" Bruce said as he looked up from the file and over at me.
"Um, yeah." I awkwardly laughed as I looked over at Loki, begging him to save me. He rolled his eyes and uncrossed his arms, snapping his fingers and taking the file from the group.
"She is carrying the child of a God. It would have killed her when she gave birth." He explained as he handed my file to me.
"Odin sacrificed himself and gave her immortality so she could have...my child." He added as he looked over at me and smiled a little.
"Wow..." Peter softly said as he crossed his arms.
"I didn't want to tell anyone because...I just didn't want anyone to make a big deal out of it..." I said as I looked around the group. My eyes landed on Clint and Nat, both smiling down at their phones as their thumbs moved along the screens.
"Annnnd Nat and Clint are texting Laura about this." I sighed as I watched Nat hit send and look over at me.
"Oh yeah." She laughed before looking back down at her phone.
"Great." I said as I clapped my hands against the sides of my thighs.
"She has a ton of clothes stored up in the attic. She never gets rid of anything." Clint said as he shook his head and looked over at me.
"I don't need baby clothes, guys. I'm only 2 months pregnant." I informed them as I crossed my arms.
"2 months turns into 9 months really fast." Clint laughed a little as he looked back down to his phone. I looked over at Peter and realized he was also texting on his phone. He looked up at me and flashed me an innocent smile before glancing back at his phone.
"Aunt May?" I asked.
"Of course Aunt May. She loves babies." Peter laughed as he continued texting.
"Well, that's awesome." I flatly said as I looked over at Loki. He seemed to be enjoying this more than me. I just knew it was going to turn into a huge deal and I didn't want that.
"Loki and Alex, you guys gotta go. Wiltrith Z can't wait any longer." Fury said as he crossed his arms. I nodded and Loki took my hand before calling on Heimdall. I was glad to be going on this mission, getting away from all the baby crazed people down on Earth. I loved the Avengers and their families but sometimes they could be a bit too much, and I knew this was going to be one of those times.
