Chapter 2
16:51, 8 October 2021*That night*
After I got home I looked through the massive list of number Happy sent me and found Pepper's. I called her first and we made plans to meet up tomorrow for lunch to talk about the charity ball. She seemed really sweet. Seems like everyone Mr. Stark works with is just super nice. Which is funny because he comes off as a massive arrogant asshole in the media. After meeting him, I have to say, I disagree. He seems down to Earth and only a little arrogant.
After that I made sure to save every number Happy sent. I also saved the addresses he sent me and spent the next hour trying to memorize the passcodes. I looked at the time on my phone and realized it was already 6:40.
"Shit shit shit shit." I said as I quickly got up and ran to the bathroom. I touched up what little make up I had on and ran my fingers through my hair, trying to control the frizz the heat was causing me. My deep brown hair sat in natural tight beach waves. It was also thicker than most hair and I always had trouble controlling it. I ruffled it a bit and pushed it back on my head, away from my face. I tossed it around and shook my head as I leaned back, giving it room to move a bit but also hiding the top frizz layer. I looked in the mirror and nodded.
"Good enough."
I left the bathroom and went straight into my room. I pulled off my dress pants and white blouse I had on for work and hectically searched my closet for something that said casual but not a bum. I grabbed a pair of black skinny jeans and a loose fitting black shirt and shrugged as I tossed them on the bed. I grabbed a pair of black socks from my top drawer and quickly put them on as I hopped over to the bed. I quickly stuffed myself into my jeans and pulled on my shirt just as I heard a knock on the door.
"One second!" I called out as I adjusted my hair one more time and grabbed my black Vans form my closet floor. I grabbed a hair tie from the top of my dresser and slipped it on my wrist as I grabbed my keys and wallet. I inhaled and exhaled as I tried to calm myself by the door. I set my shoes down and opened the door, greeting Peter with a smile.
"Hey." He smiled back.
"Ready?" He asked me. He was still wearing his clothes from work but his clothes were more casual than mine were. He had on dark blue jeans and a black flannel with red and white checkers on it.
"Yeah." I nodded as I slipped my shoes on. I quickly grabbed my phone and then walked out of my apartment and locked the door. I put my keys in my pocket and nodded at Peter again, letting him know I was ready for real this time.
"Let's go this way." He said as he nodded towards the stairs. I followed, curious as to why he was leading me to the roof. My apartment sat on the 3rd floor of an 8 floor apartment building. And I hated stairs.
"I've been up here already." I informed him. Just in case he didn't want to make me come up here twice.
"And what did you think of the view?" He asked as he turned to the next set of stairs. I still couldn't believe I was talking to Spiderman, but I managed to calm myself down. Mostly because I was prepared to see him this time.
"I thought it was beautiful. I come from a small town and I've never seen a city like this before. All the lights and signs and life that fills this city is amazing." I laughed a little. We turned the next set of stairs and continued on, making small talk as we headed towards the top. Peter opened the door and gestured for me to go first. I walked out to the roof and admired the small area again as he walked past me. We walked to the edge of the roof and I inhaled hard as I looked out over the city.
"Well, if you think this city looks that amazing from down here-" I heard Peter chuckle from behind me. I turned around and felt my heart leap back into my throat, much like earlier.
"-you're gonna love it even more when we get higher up." He said as the small Nanos, similar to Mr. Stark's, created the mask that covered his face.
"What." I nervously laughed. Peter walked over to me and stared down at me and I just knew he was smiling under that mask. I was terrified at this point. Not because of him, but because of the thought of flying through the air. He wrapped one around my lower back and pulled me against him. His suit was surprisingly soft to the touch. I clenched my jaw as he lifted his free arm above us. I heard the shooting sound of a web and inhaled as we flew from the rooftop. I held in my scream because I didn't want to seem like a baby.
"It's okay to be scared. It's your first time doing this!" Peter laughed as he flew us through the air. I had immediately closed my eyes as tight as I could and gripped my arms around his neck, trying not to choke him but also trying not to fall to my death.
"Alex. Look!" Peter laughed as the wind hit my back. I could feel him getting faster and faster, flying us to God knows where.
"No thanks!" I yelled as I shook my head a little. We suddenly stopped moving and I slowly opened my eyes, looking up at Peter. He nodded ahead of us and I closed my eyes as I mentally prepared myself to look. I slowly opened my eyes as I turned my head away from Peter and towards the world around us. I gasped and gripped him tighter as I stared down below us. We were much higher than my 8 story apartment building. We weren't anywhere close to the highest building or anything, but we were pretty up there.
"How's the view compared to the roof?" He laughed as we hung in mid-air. I felt my heart pounding in my chest, it felt like if it started beating any harder it would bust through.
"Breathtaking." I whispered as I stared down over the city. The beauty I was seeing almost made me forget I was hanging in mid-air. Almost. It felt like I was staring down into a little world full of rainbow fairies flying around. The multicolored lights that littered the city seemed to dance in time with the people around them. It was beautiful.
"Hey, call Tony for me. He's calling me but I can't answer while in this position." Peter laughed as he gripped me tighter.
"That involved letting you go. So...that's gonna be a no for me." I half laughed as I looked back at him.
"Either you risk falling or I risk dropping you to answer. Your call." He shrugged. I realized that it would be safer for me to let one arm go and call Mr. Stark myself, so I did. I slowly reached into my pocket and pulled my phone out. I dialed his number and he answered after 1 ring.
"Hey kid. Where's Peter?" He asked. Mr. Stark gave me dad vibes and I was loving it. It made me feel more comfortable about working for him. It meant he wasn't gonna be crazy or hard on me like a normal boss would.
"Um, he's, uh...we're kinda hanging from a building." I couldn't believe those words just came from me, but they did.
"Ah, he went the Spiderman route with the tour. Nice. Tony approved. Woulda been so boring if he just walked you around the city giving facts no one cares about!" He shouted that last part, I assume for Peter to hear. Peter laughed to himself and I tightened my arm that had become slightly loose during my conversation.
"Anyway. Tell Porker to get here asap. Thor is coming back from Assgard and I promised him his favorite little bug would be there." Mr. Stark informed me. From his tone he had and the way he said the name of Thor's home world it seemed like he didn't like it very much.
"Assgard?" I asked, repeating how he said it.
"Yeah! You know they laughed at me last time I was there? Said my technology was outdated to them. Primitive. Can you believe that, kid? Me. Tony Stark being laughed at for my work?? Coming from a bunch of people who's leader looks like my grandpa and talks to birds." He mumbled that last part but I heard it and it made me laugh.
"He going on about Asgard again?" Peter asked, laughing a little.
"Yeeeaahh."
"And another thing-"
"I'll tell Peter to get there." I quickly interrupted him. I had a feeling we would be here forever if I hadn't and, even though Peter was strong, I'm sure he was getting tired.
"Right. You come too. Peace." And with that Tony hung up on me. I locked my phone and slid it back into my pocket before quickly wrapping my arm around Peter's neck again.
"Thor's coming back and he wants both of us there. And Mr. Stark called you Porker?" I laughed. Peter shook his head and laughed as he slowly began swinging us towards S.T.A.R.K building.
"Yeeaahh. He was trying to teach Cap how to use a laptop and their fighting made me laugh so hard I snorted. Ever since then he calls me Porker." He explained.
"Harsh." I laughed. I looked over my shoulder and my body tensed up as we gently flew through the air. It felt like we were riding the wind because of how gently and elegantly we were going.
"He loves his nicknames." Peter added. I watched the world literally fly by as we went through the city. We passed through some taller apartment buildings and a few people spotted us. Some knocked on their window and Peter nodded a hello to them while others just pulled their phones out for a quick picture.
It took us about 10 minutes to get here but I feel like that's because Peter went slower than normal. Worried he might scare me or something. Which I was totally fine with. We landed on the very top balcony, which I was told leads to Mr. Stark's personal living room. I was a little nervous about being in Mr. Starks' personal home, but Peter mentioned that since I'm his personal assistant, I'd be here a lot.
"There you two are." Mr. Stark scoffed as he crossed his arms. I ran my fingers through my hair, trying to calm it down a little from the windy flight over here.
"First time flier here. We had to go a little slower." Peter chuckled as he patted my shoulder. His mask slowly disappeared but the rest of his suit stayed on.
"When will he be here?" Peter asked as walked over to the counter Mr. Stark was leaning on and leaned next to him. I awkwardly walked over and stood next to Peter with my hands behind my back, like some formal weirdo.
"They should be here soon." Mr. Stark informed Peter as he looked over at me.
"They?" I asked myself. Mr. Stark only mentioned Thor on the phone.
"Hey kid, come here." Mr. Stark said as he patted the spot on the counter next to him. I walked over and he quickly grabbed my head and gently examined my face and hair. I furrowed my brows in confusion as I watched him thoroughly inspect me.
"Umm." I said as he moved my head left and right.
"We're about to get real personal right now." He warned me before prying my mouth open with his fingers. My eyes went wide and Pepper walked in just as Mr. Stark began examining my teeth.
"Tony! What are you doing to the poor girl??" She asked as she quickly walked over and gently smacked his hand away from me. He rolled his eyes and removed his hands from my face and I shut my mouth as I stared at him, confused as hell.
"She flew over here without a mask on. I was checking for bugs." He explained as he took his position back against the counter.
"What-" Before Pepper could even ask, Mr. Stark interrupted her.
"Imagine how embarrassing that would be for me, Pepper, imagine. Hey guys, this is my new assistant Alex and the bugs she keeps in her teeth."
"You're ridiculous, Tony, you know that?" Pepper asked him. He rolled his eyes and she shook her head as she looked at me. She tensed up a little as her slightly wide eyes examined my face, it was like she as taking a mental picture. She quickly realized what she was doing and cleared her throat before she laughed a little.
"I am so sorry about him. Sometimes he doesn't understand what personal space is." She said as she glared at him.
"I mean, he's right though. Woulda been embarrassing for the both of us." I had to admit it. If I had anything in my hair or teeth from the fly over and met Thor like that, I'd probably launch myself right off the balcony.
"See, she gets it! I knew I was right to hire you." Mr. Stark nodded at me. Pepper rolled her eyes at the both of us but cracked a smile as she leaned on the counter next to me. A bright white light suddenly appeared in the middle of the room and I had to shield my eyes from it. I turned my face away as my hand sat in front of my eyes but heard the distinct sound of two sets of boots hitting the ground.
"Ah! My favorite Spider!" A deep voice boomed through the living room. I had a feeling that was Thor himself. I heard he was a loud talker but an absolute sweetheart.
"Thor!" Peter laughed as he walked towards the light. It began to die down and I lowered my hand as I looked towards the voice. I spotted Thor first. He was even bigger in person. He was taller than Peter and extremely muscular. He had on his traditional Asgardian outfit, his blonde hair was still short and his hammer was tightly gripped in his right hand. He was a very beautiful man. Well, God. A very beautiful God. I tore my eyes from him as I looked to the person behind him. I gasped a little when I spotted him and my body tensed up.
"Loki" I whispered.
