Chapter 1

17:03, 28 March 2025

*The Image is what I imagine this Peter to look like. A mix of all three Spider-Mans.*

*Alex's POV*

"Stop shaking!" I yelled at myself as I rode the elevator up to the 15th floor.

"You already got the job. Don't make them regret it!" I kept reminding myself. The doors opened and Mr. Stark's head of security, Happy, stood in front of me. He had a stern look on his face but I remember Mr. Stark telling me that Happy was a sweetheart.

"Miss. Morrison." He greeted me with a cold tone and quick nod.

"Mr....Happy...?" I was never told his last name and felt sever embarrassment after those words left my lips. The corner of Happy's lips tilted up a little, almost like he was forcing back a smile.

"This way." He said, clearing his throat and furrowing his brows before turning and walking down the long hall. I quickly followed him to the end of the hall, where Mr. Stark's office was. Happy knocked twice before entering, not even waiting for a confirmation from Mr. Stark. I followed close behind him and looked around the empty office.

"He'll be in shortly. I'll go get your I.D badge from the front desk." Happy said, his voice less stern and more relaxed. I nodded and he closed the door, leaving me alone in the office of the richest man in the world.

"Pretty lousy security." I mumbled as I freely walked around and admired the expensive items Mr. Stark had decorating his walls.

"We've done a very thorough background check on you and everyone you've ever had contact with. No reason to have high security around someone like you." That familiar voice said from behind me. I turned around and felt my cheeks turn red as I stared at Mr. Stark. I didn't hear him come in through the door, but noticed one of the large windows behind his desk was gone. He must have adjusted it so he could fly in and out of his office when he's needed.

"Wait. Someone like me?" I asked myself. Almost as if he could read my mind, Mr. Stark chuckled as he sat at his desk. His desk was easily the biggest I'd ever seen. Despite it's massive size, it was almost empty. He had a large computer screen sitting to the right of him, tilted towards him so only he could see what was on it. To the left of him was a few scattered papers and above that was a picture of him and his girlfriend, Pepper. There wasn't even a pencil holder or paper weight. No planner or calendar like most office desks have.

"As in someone from a clean background. No crime, no run-ins with the police or FBI. Just a smart kid from a small town in the middle of America." He gestured for me to take a seat in one of the leather chairs in front of his desk. I sat down and he leaned back in chair and threw his feet up on his desk.

"You seem nervous, kid." He chuckled. He wasn't wrong.

"Oh, um, sorry." I shyly said as I looked down to his desk and avoided his intense eye contact. I had bad anxiety when it came to literally anything. Being around new people, especially new people who were important, like my new boss, made it even worse. All I could think about was every single way I could mess up and get fired.

"No need to be sorry. I get it. Your boss is a handsome billionaire. Smartest man in the world. Iron man. Tony Stark. I'd be nervous too." He nodded while shrugging his shoulders a little. I let out a small laugh as I looked back up at him. He removed his feet from his desk and sat up, putting his elbows up on his desk and resting his chin on his outer fists.

"Alright. I got a laugh from you. That's a good start. Relax kid. You're gonna be fine." He assured me.

"Sorry Mr. Stark. This is just...it's such a huge opportunity for me. Working here. Even if it's just as an assistant. It's huge and I appreciate you hiring me." I said as I picked at my nails a little. It was something I did when I was nervous.

"Well, you were the best pick for the job. I wasn't doing it for charity or anything. I do enough for those organizations every year with my charity ball. Speaking of! First thing I want you to do is call Pepper and start on that ball." Mr. Stark nodded before removing his hands from his chin. He drummed on his desk and smiled before standing up and walking back towards the large window.

"After you do that take the rest of the day off, kid. You're new to the city, right?" He asked as he turned and looked at me.

"Yes, sir." I nodded.

"I'll have someone come by your apartment and give you a tour. Get you relaxed and familiar with your surroundings." He smiled and turned back to the window. Mr. Stark was suddenly covered in small Nanos that quickly formed his Iron Man suit around him. He looked back at me and only his face was visible.

"Cool, right?" He asked, smirking at his invention.

"Very." I was barely able to get that word out. I was so amazed by what I was seeing. I've seen Iron Man before on TV and in magazines, but I've never seen the suit in person. And I've NEVER seen it form on his body before. It was amazing.

"Alright, peace, kid." Mr. Stark threw up a peace sign as his Nanos covered his face with his signature Iron Man mask. The glass window disappeared and he flew out of his office and into the sky. It reappeared just as Happy opened the door.

"He just leave?" He asked as he walked in and handed me my badge. I nodded and then looked down to the small rectangle I.D in my hand. I actually liked the picture of me that was on it. It was better than my license picture, that's for sure.

"Alright. You're all set. I'll send you a text with the passcode to his office, the passcode to his house and the passcode to his lab. Oh! As well as the address for his main house and safe house." Happy casually said as he gently grabbed my arm and lifted me from the chair. I was surprised that they were willing to give me that much information. But then again, Mr. Stark did say they did a hard background check and found I was to be trusted. Plus, he's literally Iron Man.

Happy nudged me out of the office and back to the elevators. He pressed the down button and we silently waited for the elevator doors to open. I looked back down at my badge and smiled as I gently ran my fingers over the black lettering. S.T.A.R.K.

"You seem like a nice kid. Tony wouldn't have chosen you if he didn't think you'd be right for the job. Being his assistant is a big responsibility. He's a man child." Happy chuckled. I smiled at his comment as I looked over at him. I could see the sincerity in his soft eyes.

"Thank you." I replied. Happy chuckled as the doors to the elevator opened up. He stepped inside and I followed as he pressed the second to last button on the panel.

"Pretty quiet though." He added as he slightly tilted his head and raised a brow at me.

"Sorry, just nervous. Mr. Stark is kinda my hero in the science world." I admitted.

"You remind me of another young college kid who Tony took under his wing. He was pretty starstruck around Tony too." Happy laughed as the elevator descended down the many floors of the S.T.A.R.K building.

"Tony mentored him for years. The kid got a job working as one of our scientists here. Well, that's his day job anyway." Happy chuckled. I raised a brow as the elevator came to a stop.

"And what's his 'night job'?" I asked the man as the doors opened.

"Being Spiderman." Happy whispered before exiting the elevator and walking away. I stood there with my eyes wide and my mouth slightly open, looking like a fool. Spiderman was another person I looked up to in the science/ hero world. And to find out he works here, in the same building as me??? I was starting to feel starstruck myself.

"Come on, kid!" Happy called out. I composed myself and quickly left the elevator just before the doors closed again. I caught up with Happy by the large glass doors and he smiled as he nodded.

"You're gonna do good here, kid. I can feel it." He said.

"Thanks. Mr...um, I never got your last name." I nervously chuckled.

"Everyone just calls me Happy." He replied as we walked outside. The hot air hit my cool skin and it felt like a mini fire engulfed me. New York was experiencing one of the hottest weeks in history and it just had to be the week I moved here.

"Hey Hap!" A man laughed as he jogged towards us. He was taller than I was, and I was 5'7. I was above average height for a female in America and almost average height for the males. That meant a lot of people I meet were shorter than me. Or the exact same height. It caused me a lot of body issues because I've been this height since I was 13. I hit a growth spurt to 5'7 in middle school. I'm sure you can imagine the bullying I dealt with.

Once the man stopped I was able to get a good look at him. He was around 6 foot tall, lean but very muscular, he had dark brown eyes and short, but slightly messy brown hair to match. He was wearing black glasses and had a lab coat draped over his left arm. I assume he worked here.

"Hey Peter." Happy smiled at the man. The man looked at me and extended his free hand out to me.

"Hi, I'm Peter Parker. I work in the science division down stairs. And you are?" He politely asked me. He seemed to be a sweetheart. At least, so far.

"Alex Morrison." I smiled as I gently shook his hand. His skin was softer than I expected it to be.

"Never seen you around here before, Alex. You new?" He chuckled as he pulled away and crossed his arms over his chest, smashing his coat down.

"My first day, actually. I'm Mr. Stark's new assistant." I felt proud of those words. I know it's just an assistant position, but it still made me proud.

"Oh! Yeah! He told us you were starting today." Peter smiled. His phone suddenly went off in his pocket and he excused himself as he turned around and answered it.

"Speak of the devil, huh?" Happy laughed, leaving me completely confused.

"Huh?" I asked. Happy raised a brow like he was confused too.

"You know, the saying? "Speak of the devil"? Something people say when they talk about someone and then that person ends up being the next person they see?" He slowly explained it to me like I was a child.

"No, no. I know what the saying is. I just don't get why you said it." I replied as I looked over at Peter. He had the phone to his ear and was nodding as he walked in small circles.

"Alex." The man chuckled. I looked back at Happy and he had a small smile on his face.

"Peter Parker is Spiderman." He casually, but quietly, informed me. My heart leaped into my throat and I forced it back down into my chest with a harsh swallow. My whole body locked up and I felt frozen in time. I slowly looked over at Peter and he put his phone back in his pocket as walked back over to us.

"That was Tony. He wants me to give you a tour of the city since you're new here. I have a few things to finish up in the lab first but I can stop by your place around 7?" He offered. I stood there like an idiot and stared at him with slightly wide eyes. I was screaming at myself to say something, anything to save me from how embarrassing this was. But I was speechless. I mean, I was standing in front of SPIDERMAN.

"Happy." Peter not-so-quietly whispered, keeping his eyes on me.

"Is she okay?"

"Yeah. She's just a huge fan of Spiderman." Happy whispered back. Peter relaxed his body and chuckled as he nodded.

"I did the exact same thing when I met Tony." He crossed his arms again and I mentally smacked myself out of it, letting my tense body relax a bit.

"I'm sorry." I said, my cheeks turning red.

"Nah. Don't be. I get it. I still get all frozen when I get called in for an Avengers meeting and Captain America is there." Hearing Peter admit that made me feel a bit better about this.

"I still get that way when I see Peter's aunt." Happy added. Peter crunched his nose at that and glared at the man.

"Ew." He slightly scoffed.

"It's been 2 years Peter. When are you gonna accept that your aunt and I are in love??" Happy asked as he crossed his arms at the man.

"I don't wanna talk about this." Peter shook his head and I couldn't help but crack a smile at the two. Peter smiled at me and Happy rolled is eyes as he turned around and looked at the doors to the building.

"Alright. So, tonight at 7? Tony gave me your address already." Peter said as he pulled his white lab coat on over his clothes.

"Tonight at 7." I nodded, repeating his words. He waved bye and nudged Happy as he walked into the building. It was clear that he and Happy had a good relationship and I had a feeling Peter was just being protective of his aunt. But I'm sure Happy was good to her.

"Anyway. Be here tomorrow at noon. That's normally around the time Tony shows up for work. Any earlier or later Tony will text you. Or I will. Most likely me. Tony never texts anyone." Happy said as he shook his head a bit.

"Thanks Happy. See ya." I waved bye and walked down the street towards the crosswalk. I was so excited about my new job but meeting Spiderman kiiiinda took that excitement and doubled it. I had a feeling I was gonna meet most, if not all, of the Avengers sooner or later.
