Slughorn Class with Smells

04:07, 5 August 2024

Draco came into Snapes class almost 30 minutes later and sat next to me, I looked at her, he looked at me and raised a brow. "What?"

"No talking Mr. Malfoy." Snape stopped his lesson to say. "You already missed more than half of the lesson."

Draco nodded to him, Snape continued his lesson, I nudged him and slid my notebook between us.

|What took so long?|

Draco grabbed the pen. |Nothing important.| I read it then looked at him with a raised brow, he sighed and looked back at the paper. |I was redoing my hair if you must know.|

I choked on a chuckled. "Is there something funny to you Miss Solace?" Snape scolded.

"No. Sorry." Snape glared then continued his speech.

I grabbed the pen. |For half an hour?|

Draco grabbed the pen. |Shut it.|

I smiled and took the pen. |Remember when you use to slick back your hair? Thank god you don't do that anymore.|

Draco read it, looked at me then looked back at the paper and grabbed the pen. |It looked fine.|

I raised a brow and grabbed the pen from him. |Im more interested in knowing how you had so much gel.| Draco read it and rolled his eyes. |Did you buy a gel factory or was it actually just grease?|

Draco pushed the notebook away with a scowl, I smirked and nudged him. He looked at me and rolled his eyes.

I pushed the notebook back. |I have to make up for the years of bullying.| Draco sighed as he read it. |Right Ferret?|

"I hate you." Draco grumbled, I smiled.

Snape stopped talking and looked at us, the whole class turned. "Would you two like to share with the class?"

"No." I smiled, Snape glared. "We'll be quiet." Snape turned back to the projection.

I looked at Draco, he side looked at me and I pressed a finger to my lips. He rolled his eyes and leaned his cheek on his hand as he looked at the projection. . . .

After lunch we had Potions, the class with Professor Slughorn.

I stood in next to Draco as we listened to Slughorns life introductory and greetings. That was until we were interrupted by Harry and Ron walking in the room.

Slughorn turned around to them. "Harry, my boy, I was beginning to worry." They walked into Slughorn class. "We've brought someone with us, I see."

Ron introduced himself. "Ron Weasley sir. But I'm dead awful at potions, a menace, actually." Ron went to leave but Harry stopped him.

"Nonsense we'll sort you out. Any friend of Harry's is a friend of mine. Get your books out."

"I'm sorry sir but I haven't actually got my book yet, and nor has Ron." Harry told Professor Slughorn.

"Not to worry. Get what you want from the cupboard." Slughorn pointed at a cabinet then turned back to us. "Now, as I was saying, I prepared some convictions this morning. Any idea what these might be?" Hermione raised her hand. "Yes, Miss...?"

"Granger, sir." Hermione walked up to the cauldrons. "That one there is Veritaserum. It's a truth-telling serum. And that would be Polyjuice Potion."

Harry and Ron started to fight over the books. (Children.) I rolled my eyes.

"It's terribly tricky to make. And this is Amortentia... the most powerful love potion in the world. It's rumored to smell differently to each person according to what attracts them. For example, I smell... freshly mown grass, and new parchment, and spearmint toothpaste."

I smirked. (Still likes Ron.)Hermione went back to her spot. (I miss her... But I should, I can't. What if they make her my weakness.)

Slughorn nodded in a 'Correct' response. "Now, Amortentia doesn't create actual love. That would be impossible." The group of girls move forward to smell the potion. "But it does cause a powerful infatuation or obsession."

I smelled the air but all I could identify was Draco's cologne. (Why- Maybe Draco put on extra today... But I also smell apples...I can't possible.. No way...)

"And for that reason, it's probably the most dangerous potion in this room." Slughorn covered the potion and the smell went away.

My eyes widened slightly. (No way... That can't... No, not real.)

"Sir, you haven't told us what's in that one." Katie pointed to the small vial of clear liquid.

"Oh, yes." He picked up the vial off the stand. "What you see before you, ladies and gentlemen... is a curious little potion known as Felix Felicis. But it is more commonly referred to as-."

(Liquid Luck.)"Liquid Luck." Hermione said it as I thought it, just like we use to....

"Yes, Miss Granger. Liquid Luck. Desperately tricky to make, disastrous should you get it wrong. One sip and you'll find that all of your endeavors succeed." I looked at Draco who finally lifted his eyes to listen to Slughorn. "At least until the effects wear off. So this is what I offer each of you today. One tiny vial of liquid luck to the student who, in the hour that remains, manages to brew an acceptable Drought of Living Death. The recipes for which can be found on page 10 of your book." Everyone quickly opened there books. "I should point out, however, only once did a student manage to brew a potion of sufficient quality to claim this prize. Nevertheless, good luck to you all. Let the brewing commence." Everyone started towards there stations.

I went to a neighbor station to Draco who started to get his potion ready. I started to boil my cauldron then opened my book and the first step was to cut the Sopophorus bean.

(Cut? Why would they...) I watched as beans went flying around the room and across tables.

Draco seemed to keep his locked in his grasp but couldn't cut it. (This can't simply be cut...)

I grabbed mine and placed it in front of me. "Draco." He looked up at me. "We only need to juices. Can't we just crush it?" I whispered.

He raised a brow and looked at the book then to his bean. "I guess." He took the knife and pressed the flat edge to it and pushed down to crush it, he smiled slightly. "Good thinking."

I smiled and crushed mine. "What else am I good for?" Draco shook his head slightly and continued to brew his potion.

A while later we got through half the potion but something didn't seem right. "Have we ever made this before?" I looked to Draco with a questionable expression.

Draco shook his head. "No." My brows furrowed and I looked back to the book. "Why?"

"Well... It just seems familiar." I looked at the potion. "Something isn't right..."

Draco looked at me as he stirred. "You saw Snapes memories, right?"

My eyes widened slightly. "Oh.. Maybe that is it." Draco nodded. "Maybe he altered it in his memory because the instructions seem familiar but also different."

"Maybe." Draco put in the next ingredient. "If only you could remember the memories you steal."

I added my next ingredient. "That would be cheating." Draco nodded with a frown. (He really wants this potion.)

•"Merlins beard! It's perfect." I turned around to Slughorn with Harry. "So perfect I dare say one drop would kill us all." Harry smiled.

(Harry? He has never been good at Potions.)

Slughorn moved to our table and came to mine. "I've heard quite a lot of your skills Miss Solace. Your father of course was quite good but your mother..." Slughorn stopped talking and nodded. "Let's see, shall we?" He grabbed a leaf and dropped it in my cauldron, it fizzed and disintegrated. "Very good, excellent indeed. I see why you are well spoken for by Professor Snape."

I nodded. "Thank you."

He nodded and turned to Draco. "Malfoy is it. Snape spoke of you as well." Draco nodded and stepped back so Slughorn could test his, the same thing happened with the leaf. "Your potion is good as well." He smiled softly. "Good." He moved to the next student who was Goyle, he simply gave a disappointing smile and continued without checking his potion.

Draco looked tiredly at his potion, I poked him and he looked at me. "It will be fine." Draco nodded and turned off his burner.
