Names from a Fire

04:07, 5 August 2024

(Alabaster feels the same as the man at the Tournament. Alabaster has two different personalities, I believe, but I dont now since I don't exactly know him. Alabaster enjoys punishing, or hurting, it shows every time he demonstrates a spell on one of his insects. Alabaster always drinks from that flask. And I swear one time I saw him flick out his tongue, not a 'My lips are dry' tongue movement but like a creepy tongue movement.)

______________________"Liv?" Mione shook my sleeping form. "Liv, wake up, its time."

I groaned. "Time for what?" I yawned and opened my eyes.

Mione smiled. "People are starting to gather in the Great Hall for the champion reveal."

I sat up with another yawn, the curriculum and library books that were sprawled out on the table were now stacked neatly, I looked out the window to see the night sky. "How long was I asleep?" I rubbed the sleepies out of my eyes.

"An hour at most." Mione stood up with her books in her arm. "You seemed tired so I didn't wake you."

I smiled, picked up my books and stood. "I stay up late, I couldn't get my mind to calm down." I walked around the table and walked with Mione out of the library. "What do you think of Alabaster?"

Mione scoffed. "You know what I think."

I nodded. "Yea, but I mean more of his personality. It's like he... I dont trust him. Something is wrong with him and I cant put my finger on it."

"Please, not this year." Mione groaned. "Your reputation with the Defense Against the Dark Arts professors is unbelievable."

I smiled. "Well, that all ended up being true."

Mione shook her head. "Please be careful."

"I know, I know." I sighed. "It's just... It bugs me."

We walked into the Great Hall, students already gathered and standing around for the selection to start. Mione and I found Harry and Ron on the bleachers and joined. "Hey, Hermione, Olivia." Harry greeted.

"Hey." Mione said, I smiled at him.

"Sit down please." Dumbledore announced.

Everyone that was standing around the room sat down, I sat next to Mione who had Harry on the bench in front of her and Ron behind her. Dumbledore moved his hand slowly around the room, the hanging bowels of fire dimmed.

"And now the moment you've all been waiting for, the champions selection." Dumbledore walked to the Goblet, approaching the blue flame and it glows red. A name comes out. Everyone looks on anxiously. "The Durmstrang champion is ... Viktor!" The Durmstrang crowd cheer for their champion, another name comes out. "The champion from Beauxbatons... Fleur Delacour." The Beauxbatons girls cheer as Fleur walks up to collect her paper, another name comes out. "The Hogwarts champion... Cedric Diggory." Hogwarts pupils cheer as Cedric takes the stage.

I frowned and grew nervous, Mione nudged me. "Hey." I looked at her. "Cedric will be fine."

"Mione people die in this, or get seriously hurt."

Mione linked our arms. "Dumbledore wont let that happen."

"Excellent!" Dumbledore exclaimed. "We now have our three champions! But in the end only one will go down in history. Only one will hoist this chalice of champions, this vessel victory the tri-wizard cup!"

People cheered until the Goblet of Fire turns red once more and another name flies out. Dumbledore catches the smoking paper and brings it to his gaze to read.

I leaned to Mione. "I thought there was only one per school." She shrugged.

"Harry Potter." Dumbledore looks up. "Harry Potter?" He looks around for Harry but Harry crouched down to hide from him. "Harry Potter!" Dumbledore exclaimed.

Mione lifts Harry up and pushes him towards Dumbledore. "Go on Harry. Harry for goodness sake." Mione said worriedly.

Harry slowly walks up to Dumbledore as he looked at all the sneering faces, Dumbledore gives him the paper, Harry takes it and walked down the path between tables to the room where the other champions gathered. Voices in the crowd shout out, calling Harry a cheat, others were murmuring to each other.

"Now are you afraid of this tournament?" I looked at Mione.

Mione looked nervous. "Harry will be fine. Dumbledore wont let him enter, he cant."

Ron snapped out of his seat and stormed towards the door, Mione and I looked at each other in confusion before going after him. "Ron?" Mione called out to him.

All three of us went down the hall before he turns to us. "Did you guys know? Did he tell you that he entered?" Ron eyed both of us with anger and jealousy.

Mione shook her head. "We didn't know."

My brows furrowed. "Wait a minute." They both looked at me. "If there is only one champion allowed per school how could Harrys name come out after Cedrics?"

Mione squinted her eyes in thought, Ron looked around. "I'm sure there is a charm or something to make sure it flew out."

I raised a brow. "Ron."

"What?"

"Go take a breather. You've known Harry for four years, right now your jealously is blinding you like a child."

Ron glared. "I'm not jealous." I raised a brow, he huffed. "Bug off, Olivia." He walked away.

I sighed and looked at Mione. "Can you handle him?"

Mione nodded. "I'll see you tomorrow?" Mione walked fast to catch up with a frustrated Ron.

I turn to the staircase and walked to them. (Should I talk to Sirius? He would want to know if Harry is in danger. But would that draw him out of hiding, he cant come out of hiding.)

"Pureblood." I walked into the Slytherin common room then up to my room, I fished into my drawer of the nightstand and took out the mirror. (Should I call him here?.. Screw it.)

I opened the compact mirror. "Sirius?"

A couple more calls later and he finally appeared. "It's been a while, O."

I smiled. "Hello, Gold... Harry got himself in a pickle."

Sirius smile fell. "What happened? Has it got anything to do with the Tri-Wizard Tournament?"

I nodded. "The Goblet of Fire had an age restriction for anyone below 17. The Hogwarts champion was picked but after Harrys name flew out. I think someone planned for Harry to be picked, that's the only logical explanation."

Sirius's eyes grew distant in thought. "Did Harry get someone to put his name in? Maybe there was a mistake."

I shook my head. "Harry looked as dumbfounded as a person could get when Dumbledore read his name aloud."

"Igor... He use to be a Death Eater, maybe he put Harrys name in the fire."

"Uh? He doesn't... He doesn't seem to be bad though. Other than the normal distaste for the mix of bloods at Hogwarts."

"Who else could it be? Olivia, people die in this tournament." Sirius exclaimed nervously. "Who would want Harry to die?"

I folded back the top part of the mirror to make a stand, then placed it on the bed. "Do you know an Alabaster Moody?"

Sirius smiled. "Yes. Back in the day we were friends until I was framed. He was friends with all of us." Sirius eyed me. "Why?"

I looked down to my fingers an fiddled. "During the Quidditch Tournament I saw a young man cast the Dark mark into the sky, I got the normal... the sixth sense caught his..." I sighed. "I dont even know what to call it but Alabaster Moody is almost the same. In class he goes between different personalities from nice to yelling. He finds joy in hurting the insects he uses for his spells. There is just so much and I dont know if I should be worried or not."

"Alabaster has always been a strange man, most of it came with his work with Death Eaters." Sirius rubbed his chin. "What did the man at the tournament look like?"

I looked away in thought. "It was dark but when he cast the mark I saw he wore a long coat, his hair was short and dark, skinny, a huge grin and his eyes were big... or maybe he was just opening them wide. But it was dark so his features weren't that noticeable."

Sirius nodded. "If you see anything, anything of importance call me. There is someone inside Hogwarts that wants Harry hurt. Do me a favor and keep an eye on Igor, I know you said it cant be him but maybe you weren't looking enough."

I nodded. "I will."

Sirius smiled. "Thank you, Olivia."

I smiled. "Anytime, Gold. I'll talk to you later."

"Goodbye." Sirius said as his face faded away.
