Ch 141
02:17, 4 July 2025Ibiki didn't respond right away. He just stared, unmoving, as if dissecting everything I'd just thrown into the open.ย
I met his gaze, jaw tight, waiting for the inevitable pushback, the cold dismantling of my words. But he just nodded. A slow, measured movement.ย
"Alright," he murmured, his voice low but clear. "Speak your case."ย
I didn't relax, not even a little. My head had started to pound, just behind my eyes, like something was pressing from the inside. Still, I nodded back, if only slightly.ย
"Thank you," I responded, keeping my voice steady. "I don't like your methods. But you've been respectful. I'll return the favor."ย
The pain behind my eyes didn't go away, and neither did the knot in my stomach. I was wary, on edge, even though no one had moved against me.ย
There were too many eyes, too much history, too many cracks in the floor beneath my feet. It wasn't the best feeling, but I had gone through worse.ย
I can get through this.ย
I can do this.ย
I will do this, even if I have to risk everything.ย
I turned to Tsunade. Of everyone here, she was the only one I trusted the most. Not because she'd given me any guarantees, but because she hadn't pretended to.ย
She hadn't spoken to me like I was a symbol or a threat. Just a person. That meant something. Even when she first spoke, she was blunt and truthful. She cried and I helped her, now I'm in a bad situation and she's the judge.ย
"If you're the one listening," I told her, "then I'll keep talking."ย
Before I could say more, Shikaku spoke up from his seat near the wall. His voice wasn't cruel, just tired. Honest in a way that made me freeze.ย
"You're an emotional mess," he said bluntly. "This isn't the same Ishi from years ago."ย
I didn't look at him, but his words echoed in the back of my mind.ย
"Back then, you had confidence. Even with the things you'd been through, even with the weight you carried, you weren't buried under it. You had your demons. But they didn't define you."ย
Now I turned toward him, just slightly. I look him straight in the eyes, unblinking, unflinching. My gaze is wide, fixed, not narrowed with anger but sharp with warning.ย
I don't need to speak. The silence between us is loud enough. He's talking about something he shouldn't, something I don't want dragged into the open.ย
My stare holds him there, testing his nerve. Is he really going to keep going? I dare him to. My face is still, my breath even, but everything in me says: Don't.ย
This isn't a threat, not exactly. It's a boundary, drawn with eyes alone. I am not okay with this. And he knows it. I am not ready for this talk. But it seems like he is.ย
"Now?" he continued. "All I see is pain."ย
There was a pause before he added, "Is that why you don't want to go back to Orochimaru?"ย
He said it anyway. The words left his mouth like a slow drop of poison, and I felt each syllable hit. I didn't move. I didn't look away.ย
My eyes stayed locked on his, cold. No blinking. No reaction. But inside, something coiled tight. I could feel the heat crawling up my neck, pressing behind my eyes, not from embarrassment, but from the sheer audacity of it.ย
He knew better. He should've known better. Still, I kept staring. Let him see it. Let him feel the weight of what he'd done. My silence wasn't forgiveness. It was pressure.ย
I wanted him to regret it, not just the words, but the moment he decided he'd speak them to me. I didn't speak. My eyes said everything: You crossed a line. You don't get to pretend you didn't.ย
But for now, I would let it slide. This is not the time. I took a breath, slow and careful, calming my thoughts as I broke away first. I turned to Tsunade, addressing her only.ย
I was not happy.ย
"That's part of it," I answered. "But it's not the whole story."ย
I rubbed at my temple, the headache pulsing harder. I shifted in my seat, feeling the intensity of the question settle around me.ย
My headache hadn't eased. If anything, it was spreading, behind my eyes, down my neck, through my spine. Still, I met Tsunade's eyes.ย
"I can't go back to him." The words left my mouth before I even had time to shape them with care. They came out flat. Emotionless. Blunt in a way that surprised even me.ย
"I won't go back. That's all there is to it." I didn't have a list of reasons. No dramatic retelling. Just a deep, gnawing certainty that lived in my bones.ย
"It's not about something he did. Not directly," I continued, gaze fixed on the space between Tsunade's tea cup and the edge of her desk.ย
"There wasn't a breaking point. No final straw. I just... can't." My hands were still, folded in my lap. My voice never rose, but there was something hollow in it. Like the words were being pulled from a place too far down to reach easily.ย
"How would I even know the answer?" I asked, more to the air than anyone in the room.ย
"How do you explain something your body knows before your mind catches up?" I looked at Tsunade.ย
"When I think about going back, it feels like something inside me closes. Like breathing would get harder. Like I'd stop... healing, if I even started." I paused, voice low.ย
"There's no fixing myself there. That place... him... I wouldn't survive it again."ย
And that was it. It wasn't a cry for help. It wasn't defiance. It was a fact. Just a quiet truth I had learned the hard way.
A/n I'm sorry these chapters of kind of short but it's the only way I can keep getting them out to you guys! Enjoy~
