Chapter 9

Leya's POV:

I approached the plank leading up to the deck of Juleka's ship and bent down and knocked on it to make them aware of my presence. Then, I walked up, catching sight of a head with black and blue on the far side, looking intently at me.

"Oh, uh, hi, Luka. Is Juleka around? She asked me to drop off something for her..."

"Well, she's not here right now, but you can go and leave it on her bed in her room. I'm sure she won't mind." Luka's soft voice replied, as he went back to playing his guitar. I opened the door in the middle of the deck, and went down into the hold, passing Luka's room on the way to Juleka's. When I had put her homework assignment that she missed on a sick day on her bed, and emerged on the top deck again, I could hear the sweet melodies of Luka's guitar making their way to my ears. Instead of leaving straight away, I walked over to him silently, and just stood there, listening.

He looked up at me and abruptly stopped.

"Is something wrong?" He asked.

"What? Oh, oh no," I replied, shaking my head frantically, "I just...I really like your music. I would normally play something more upbeat for my taste, but it's still really nice."

"You play guitar?"

"I used to, I stopped when I was about 13." Luka put his guitar to the side and sat on one of the seats, before gesturing for me to sit on the other one.

"It's been a while since I've seen a fellow musician like me. So, what was your favourite thing to play?"

Gingerly, I took his guitar, tuned it a bit, and racked my brains for the notes I had converted to memory 3 years ago, before I started playing.

My music was definitely a bit different from Luka's. It was less slow and sensual and more, fun and poppy. As I played one of my favourite riffs, my fingers flying across the strings, I looked up, and Luka was staring at me. Again.

"What?" I asked, smiling, as I gave him back his guitar.

"You have fire in your heart. A passion. Determination, and positivity." When I was silent, he added,

"I like it."
