Rescue
06:59, 20 August 2022You stand-up from the chair in the office. You could cut the tension in the small room, and it was worse than a silent first date. Ward had just been swirling his drink, waiting for you to give him the information he wanted, "Since I am of no use to you, I'll just be leaving."
Ward hums, "I forgot that you were making the decisions here." Now he stands as well.
You're about to turn to the door when it opens, Marcus from earlier walking in. You bite your top lip and laugh, "I knew you were shady, you son of a bit..."
Marcus hands you a drink, "Figured I would bring the drink to you."
You put on a fake smile, take the drink, and then throw it in his face, "Let me know how it is."
If smoke could come out of his ears, it would. Marcus takes a few steps to you, but Ward stops him.
He pushes him back outside of the office door and closes it once more, "Sorry about that. You've been introduced it seems?"
You fold your arms and lean on the back of the chair you were just sitting in, "Don't play dumb. It's not a good look for yo..."
You're interrupted by Marcus outside, "Hey! No one is allowed back here!"
"I did not ask permission, nor do I need it," another voice says, causing you to stand straight again, with you and Ward turning to the door.
You both hear a loud thud, and the hall is silent for a few seconds, before the door to the office is kicked open, revealing Loki, "For such a lavish party, one would think the doors would be of better quality."
Loki looks to you, "I don't know about Asgard, but here, we have these things called 'door knobs'. They're usually used to open the doors."
A smirk spreads across Loki's face, the one you would love to slap right off of him, "Did you not find my entrance rather...heroic?"
"Why don't you ask the door?" you nod behind him. "I think you hurt its feelings."
Guess that counts as a verbal slap, since the smirk leaves Loki's face instantly, "I do believe you meant to say 'Thank you for coming to save me'."
"And I do believe that you're still delusional!" a cackle escapes you.
"I'm not the one implying that a DOOR has feelings!" Loki walks into the room more.
"You two are..." Ward takes a breath in and shakes his head. "Am I on TV right now? Being pranked? Marcus?!" He calls into the hall.
Loki's attention is brought back to Ward, as is yours, "Ah, yes. You." He uses his magic to lift Ward into the air, a few feet off of the ground.
"Ok; not TV then," Ward kicks his legs.
"Loki! No need to unalive him. He technically didn't harm me at all," you move to stand next to Loki.
Loki's head turns to you, but his hand remains raised to keep Ward in place, "You're joking, right?! He was keeping you in this room!"
"Well, yes, but..."
Loki rolls his eyes, "Fine." He motions with his hand and Ward gets slammed against one of the walls, "He will be out for about an hour. He's fine."
"You're SO kind," you say sarcastically, as you move around the back of the desk and sit. You pull a flashdrive from your purse and stick it into the laptop on the desk.
"What're you doing?" Loki stands next to you, leaning his hands on the surface.
"The mission? Getting the codes they need," you click download and sit back in the chair, taking a deep breath for the first time in what feels like 2 days. You then finally turn and look at Loki, "Your suit..."
Loki looks down at his Asgardian armor, "What of it?"
"It's quite...green," you almost want to reach out and touch it, but just when you're about to, the flash drive pings, indicating that it's done downloading the files.
"Good, you know your colors," Loki nods once.
You ignore Loki and press another button on your glasses, so your voice will be picked up, "Tony, if Thor is with you, can you ask him if Loki's always been this obnoxious?"
"That he has, Y/N," you hear Thor call over through a little speaker planted in the side of one of the arms of the pair of glasses.
"Well, you BOTH seem to annoy me just enough to make me this obnoxious," Loki says loud enough and close to your ear.
"It's a special talent," you put on a fake smile to Loki, which gets short lived by the sound of movement just down the hall. "And that's our cue," you quickly stand.
"There's only one hall outside of that door," you hear Tony. "Loki, I've temporarily enabled your teleportation power in the bracelet. You should be good to get out of there."
Loki nods and looks to you, "Take my arm. You may be a little unstable for a few seconds upon our landing."
You loop both of your arms through Loki's.
"Close your eyes," Loki whispers just above your ear.
For once, you follow his directive, and when you open your eyes again, you're back in the cabin.
"Your flight home is tomorrow night. Great job out there," Tony commends, and then you hear the click of Loki's bracelet locking once more.
Kicking off your shoes is one of the best feelings in the world right now, which you place by your door. You follow that by pulling the 2 pins in your hair that were holding it in place.
Loki starts walking to the kitchen, when Tony speaks again, "Oh, and Loki. Thank you. At least you answered the phone when we called to get to Y/N."
The connection is clicked off by Tony, leaving you and Loki in silence and frozen in your walking.
"Y/N, I..." Loki starts.
You shouldn't be hurt, but a part of you is, not that you would ever admit. You hold up your hand to stop Loki's words, "Don't worry about it. After all, I was your responsibility." Now it looks like the steam could come from Loki's ears, but you continue, "Like Tony said, thank you for coming. Since it was requested of you."
Loki continues to stare at you, something in his eyes, but you can't tell which emotion.
You're about to walk away, but your anger is getting the better of you. Guess it runs in the family, "Would you have even realized if I was missing or didn't come back?!"
"You went to the bathroom! You made it very clear that you wanted space! Away from me!" now both of your voices are raised, and thankfully the cabin is secluded.
"And what if Tony never called?! Maybe after an hour you might have thought, 'Huh. Didn't I come here with someone?'!" thank goodness you weren't holding anything, or you probably would have thrown it against a wall.
Loki folds his arms, "Are you quite finished? Gods, maybe I should have just left you there."
You exhale a laugh, "Maybe I'll head back then." You turn and walk to the door, "I need to find out how Marcus liked the drink that I poured on him anyway."
Suddenly, Loki's next to you and he takes your elbow to turn you to him, "That is not funny!"
"Pouring the drink on him was," you grin at the memory.
"You are NOT leaving this cabin! Especially back to them!" Loki growls. "In all of the realms, you must be the most infuriating being I've ever met!"
His hand remains on your arm, "As. Are. You." With each word, you seethe, moving your head closer to Loki's.
Right when you finish the last word, a static sound fills your ear, and the images and memories of being in a car 'crash' on a dark street, play through your mind and into Loki's.
