Chapter twenty nine

I walk up to the stands with Jiwon, we take our seats pretty close to the ice as we wait for the game to begin

A few minutes later the game begins and I scan the ice, searching for him

My eyes finally lay on Heeseung, leaning against the bench, arms folded, eyes locked on the game and not once looking over at me

Jake approaches us with his usual calm presence, slipping into the seat beside me and giving a quick hi to Jiwon, which she responded with a slight smile

"Hey" he says to me softly, handing me a bottle of water with a small smile

"Thanks" I whisper

Jake's smile faltered as he studies my face, "you okay?" He asks me

I shrug, "Yeah, just tired"

"Why isn't he playing?" I ask Jake, signalling to Heeseung

"He's on after the first session, his coach wants to see how the first session plays out and if he needs to be put on"

"Well it looks as if he'll need to be put on" I watch as the score goes up to one, for the enemy team

"Look who it is" All three of us turn our heads to the side and spot Gunwoo, but his eyes are only focused on me

"Gunwoo?" I question, "Why are you here? Cheong-San isn't playing"

"You didn't answer my texts, thought I might run into you here" He replies as he takes a seat beside Jake

"Long time no see" Jake chuckles

"Still hanging with Heeseung?" Gunwoo asks and I can feel the tension between him and Jake

"Yeah" Jake replied, but this time his voice isn't his usual tone, it's more of a colder one

"How's he doing? Is he doing okay?" Gunwoo asks, seeming genuinely interested in about how Heeseung is doing

I turn away and start up a conversation with Jiwon, "New boyfriend?" She whispers looking at Gunwoo

"Nope, just an old friend" I shut her down immediately

"Well he came all the way here to see you, just because you didn't answer his text— wait did you ever get your phone back?"

"No... I haven't been home" I admit

"If you want I can come with you, I mean when you do go home"

"You'd do that?"

"Of course I would" She smiles widely at me

"Is it just me or is he playing not great today" I whisper to Jiwon

She nods in agreement, "I don't know what's going on with him, he's gonna make us lose—"

"Come on Heeseung, what are you doing?!" Jake jumps up and yells as Heeseung misses the goal by a mile

Heeseung looks up at us and then goes back to playing, but he's playing so aggressively

He's pushing and shoving everyone, trying his hardest to get the puck, but he never does

Then he throws his hockey stick on the middle of the ice and skates off to the side, but instead of sitting down, he leaves the whole rink

"Is he okay?" I ask Jake, worried, he's never acted like this, especially when playing

"I have no idea, I'm gonna go check on him" Jake replies before jogging off away from us

"You coming?" Jiwon asks as everyone begins making their way to leave, or to congratulate our team

They thankfully won, but it was a close call with Heeseung getting sent off and storming out

"Yeah" I smile and run up to her as we walk to the locker rooms, Ni-Ki walks out with his bag and spots us

He walks up and smiles, "Hey"

"You played good today" I admit with a smile

"Thanks, it was a very close game" He chuckles as the other team leaves the locker rooms, not happy

"Yeah" I chuckle as we make our way to the exit, we decide to wait for Jake and Heeseung as they haven't made an appearance since they both disappeared

"Haerin!" I turn around to see Gunwoo walking my way, I smile and meet him halfway

"Want to grab something to eat?" He asks me with a smile on his face

"Yeah, that sounds good—" I get interrupted by a certain silver haired boy standing appearing beside me

"She can't"

"What?" I question looking up at him, why is he doing this?

"Your dad showed up"

"W-what?" I repeat, confused

"Just come" His hand wraps around my arm and begins dragging me away from Gunwoo

"I'm sorry, we can grab food another time!" I call out to him and he nods, still smiling

"What do you mean my dad showed up?!" I finally stop him at his motorcycle

"What exactly is going on between you and Gunwoo?"

I blink, surprised by this question

"Are you being serious? Did you just lie about my dad showing up?!"

"I knew you wouldn't talk to me otherwise"

"Is that some sort of a joke? You could've been like, 'hey Haerin, can we talk for a second', not drag me away with some lie that you know affects me!"

"And also, you and Jake? You two seem pretty close" He ignores my statement and carries on with his conspiracies

"Me and Gunwoo— just friends"

"Me and Jake— also just friends" I scoff

"And besides why do you care? You've been avoiding me all week Heeseung and I don't understand why. I mean what did I even do?"

"Nothing— you did nothing" He sighs and looks down

"Then why?!"

"I just needed to make sure" He turns and puts on his helmet, getting on his motorcycle

"And now you're leaving" I do a full turn and let out a groan of frustration

He doesn't say anything just holds out another helmet, I can't see his expression since his mouth is covered, but his eyes are pure

"I have a ride home" I walk away from him and try to find Jiwon

This chapter was lowk taking ages to come out ngl, but it's finally here and let me tell you— the next???

I've been planning it for ages, I'm so excited to write it
