Seven Months Later

Rose’s Point of View
I was sitting in a comfy chair looking out on our back yard through the sun room windows. Something dropped in the great room and I ran-as much as woman who was due in two weeks could-to the source. Eddie had dropped a decorative vase. My favorite one. “Dammit Eddie! This is ridiculous! Dimitri!” I yelled and he was by my side in an instant.
“Rose, go-”
“Do not tell me to sit down. Let. Me. Help.”
“Roza!” he pleaded.
“Rose! You’re about to pop. Personally, I’m not convinced there is only one of your spawns in there.” Christian tried to help Dimitri out. He didn’t. I mean maybe in normal circumstances, but my hormones told me to scream obscenities and throw my shoe at him.
“Are you saying that I’m fat?” I said it evenly, but like I mentioned-throwing a shoe wouldn’t feel wrong.
“Oh, um...no. That’s not what I meant-I-”
“Is that what you think Dimitri? You won’t let me do anything but sit because I’m disgustingly big and it puts me out of your line of vision?” Oh. I was having a full blown bitch fit. I needed to calm down, but a big part of me did not care.
“What! Roza! You know damn well, I’m making you sit because-” he sighed, “Because you are big Rose. You’re nine months pregnant with our child and I sure as hell will not risk the health of you or our girl.” His language told me to shut up, even though it was small little curses you’ve said since third grade when your parents couldn’t hear.
“Fine.” I begrudgingly walked through our victorian home. It was a large two story house and I absolutely loved it. When you walked through the foyer you can see the curved stair case that lead up stairs to the bedrooms, bathrooms, a study, and a second family room(which we were turning into a room to train in). The house was built in the late 1800’s and there was only a sixteen minute commute to the court. Where there was wood, it was cherry and where there was walls there was thick, white sculpted molding. It was elegant and beautiful just like our little Emilia Elvira Belikov. A Russian name. Pronounced ehMEEleeyah EHLveerah. Dimitri chose Elvira because evidently it meant amiable. I chose Emilia because it meant to always excel. So, she’ll be a badass, but a nice one. I rolled my eyes. Then again, most people never learn your middle name. I sat down in my chair and watched the day go through its phases, stopping every once in a while to shift in the chair. It was a boring afternoon. But later Dimitri came in to the sun room and didn’t say anything as he sat down and watched the sun set. When it was finally over, and we were in darkness, he spoke.
“I’m sorry I snapped at you. I just don’t want you to hurt yourself.”
“I know. It’s okay. But you’re just like me Dimitri. I need to be doing something. Even if it’s just carrying in lamps.” I told him.
“I know. I coddle to much. But I coddle because I care.” I giggled and Dimitri soon started to laugh with me. The baby started to kick and I stopped. I took Dimitri’s hand and placed it over my tummy. I couldn’t see him, but I knew he was smiling. “She likes our voices?”
“Yeah. But mostly yours now. Hell. I can’t blame her. I wouldn’t want to be forced upon my mom for nine months.”
“Rose. I’m sure Emilia does not think like that. You’ll be a very good mother.” He was assuring, but part of me wandered.
“I know, but when she’s born that will be two people I’m putting before Lissa.”
“Rose don’t be afraid. You bring death into the world all the time and now afraid of what bringing a life will do? It will work out.” He took my hand and kissed it then stood up. “Come on, I’ll make dinner.” I tried to get up but found my large stomach was in the way. Dimitri chuckled and helped me stand. “What do you want?”
“Something utterly delicious.”
“That can be arranged. Do you...do you want to start unpacking? We already placed all the furniture where it needs to go.” I smiled, he was trying.
“Okay. Remember, delicious.” I walked out of the room and made my way slowly up the stairs. I walked into the olive green room that would be Emilia’s. I was going to unpack her boxes and then stopped myself. I wanted to do that with Dimitri. Christian, Dimitri, Eddie, and surprisingly Abe and Adrian had painted the rooms that needed painting last week. Which was most of the rooms. They painted “Вы всегда будете любимы” on the wall, which meant “You’ll always be loved.” I think Dimitri and I both wanted to incorporate her Russian origin in her life. I walked to our room and started unpacking everything and making the bed. I sat down on the edge of the bed then laid back and closed my eyes.
“Hey. Looks good in here.” Dimitri startled me and I sat up quickly. Damn.
“You scared me.”
“Sorry. Dinner’s ready.” He walked over and helped me up. Then he picked me up effortlessly and carried me down the hall and down the stairs to the kitchen.
