Chapter 20

Keefe's POV

"Sophie!" Keefe shouted as he, Ro, Sandor, and a weird snake thing tunneled through the earth.

"We aren't even there yet," Ro said rubbing her ear which Keefe had just yelled into. 

Oh no. Keefe thought. "Smoke," Keefe whispered mostly to himself. 

"I'm sure it's the humans. They set fires all the time." Sandor grumbled.

Keefe believed him for a second then the transmission came. Keefe, please hear me. I can't breathe...

"Sophie!" Keefe cry-screamed. He burst into tears. "Can this thing go any faster?!" Keefe yelled at Sandor. The snake thing then sped up.

"Keefe, what's happened?" Ro and Sandor asked in unison.

"Sophie said......" His voice choked off. 

"We can't help Sophie if you don't tell us."

Keefe took a big gulp. "She said she couldn't breathe." Keefe finished his voice barely a whisper.

"We have to find her." Sandor declared. "Faster!" He shouted at the snake making it speed up.

When they arrived at the hideout the whole thing was covered in flames. The only flames that humans couldn't create. Everblaze. Luckily, Keefe kept a supply of frissan on hand. Once he had put out the fire, Keefe bolted through the door coughing at the smell of smoke. Then he saw her barely conscious on the floor.

"Foster?"

"Ke.....ef.....e" She managed to choke out.

"It's ok. I'm here." Keefe told her softly. Then pulled Sophie into his arms. She leaned up and soon their lips were touching. They were kissing.

Ok is that a good end? I know it only took Sophie and Keefe 20 chapters to finally kiss but it happened.
