Chapter 16

Keefe's POV

As soon as Keefe got home, he collapsed on his bed. He tried to hold it together for a week now. Yes, it had been a week but to Keefe it felt like an eternity. He started crying. Why Sophie? His mom wanted him! 

"You good?" Ro asked looking concerned.

"What do you think!?" Keefe shouted back.

Ro silently retreated back to her post in the corner. Normally she would have yelled at him but things with him and Sophie had finally been going well. Now no one knew if Sophie was even alive. Soon the room filled with soft snoring. Ro smiled he needed sleep. He had barely slept the past week.

When Keefe got to Foxfire Magnate Leto was waiting for him. He looked at him suspiciously kind of hoping it was the Neverseen again.

"It's me Mr. Sencen I promise you." Then under his breath he mumbled "You kids these days."

Keefe normally would have smirked, but he most definitely was not in the mood today. "What do you want." Keefe demanded.

"The council has an announcement for you and your friends."

Keefe perked up at that. "Did they find Sophie? Is she ok?" 

"I'm not sure. They just told me to gather you and your friends."

"Well let's go." Keefe said eagerly

"Yes, this way."

"You're kidding." Keefe shouted with a dry laugh.

"Mr. Sencen please this is not a joking matter." Bronte growled.

"You were wrong before. You're sure this time?" Dex asked.

"Yes Mr. Dizznee. We are sure." Bronte answered. 

"She can't-" Tam choked up "This is all my fault."

"Tam don't you couldn't have known they would kill her." Linh said trying to comfort her brother.

The council had told them Sophie was dead. The thing was they had no real proof.

"Grady, Edaline, you may do whatever you want with Sophies stuff." Emery said. 

Everyone soon left the only people left were Keefe and Ro. 

"So, Lord Hunkyhair what are you thinking about." Ro asked hoping the use of his nickname would cheer him up. No such luck.

"She's not dead." Keefe said firmly. "And I'm going to prove it. You in or do I have to find some way to ditch you."

"Yeah, as fun as it sounds for you to try to ditch me, I think your right. The council have no real proof. So, I guess I'm in.
