Chapter 3

23:38, 28 June 2023

Sophie's POV

"Sophie. Wake up you're going to be late for school," a voice said, cutting into her sleep-induced haze.

Sophie groaned when she realized school meant confronting Keefe.

"Sophie Elizabeth Foster!" Sandor shouted in her ear.

"Ugh, okay! I'm up; I'm up," Sophie replied grumpily.

Sophie got up, making her way downstairs, and saw a delicious breakfast of mallowmelt.

"What's wrong?" She asked, noting was more suspicious than mallowmelt.

"Nothing. I felt like baking." Edaline replied happily.

Sophie accepted that as an answer and munched happily on the smooth buttery cake. When she was finished, she left for Foxfire.

...

Great Sophie thought as she glittered into view of the school. Keefe was waiting for, presumably her, smirking by a bush.

"Hey, Foster. Why so grumpy." He asked as she walked by.

"I'm not grumpy," Sophie replied with her best leave me alone look. Keefe either didn't get the message or ignored it.

"You can't lie to an Empath!" Keefe replied, brushing his perfectly styled hair out of his face.

"Ugh, do you have to be so annoying?" Sophie asked getting annoyed.

"Yes, he does" Ro cut in.

"I'm not annoying." Keefe put a hand over his heart as though the thought offended him.

"Yes, you are." Sophie and Ro both answered.

"Ow, Foster that stings."

"How long have you had a crush on me?" Sophie blurted out before she could stop herself.

"You finally stopped being so oblivious," Ro said looking genuinely surprised.

Keefe just looked nervous and embarrassed as he mumbled something about getting to class.
