Chapter 21
21:04, 12 March 2013Zayn POV
“But why Zayn?” Perrie protests.
“Because the Doctor says it isn’t a good idea,” I tell her.
“But I can walk now!”
“You can’t dance and you can’t take the tour Perrie. You haven’t recovered enough.”
“Why are you doing this? All I want is to be on stage with the girls.”
“I want that for you as well but you need to be ready. You’re not ready yet.”
“No all you want is for me to be with you all the time You’re so selfish,” she shouts. She pushes my arm in anger.
“Perrie, stop shouting,” I say, trying to calm her down.
“Stop dictating my life! Leave me alone Zayn,” she says, pointing at the door.
“No! I’m not leaving,” I say.
“I want you to leave. Can I not just make one decision?” she says, not shouting anymore, she just seems upset.
I turn around and walk out the door, slamming it angrily behind me. I get in the car and start driving. My mum told me I shouldn’t drive when I’m angry but I need to. I need to get away from that house, it’s driving me crazy. Perrie’s mum left last week and me and Perrie have just been fighting since. She can’t stand me being near her, she is always picking a fight. This injury is tougher than I thought it would be. It is tough on our relationship and is putting the biggest strain on it.
I drive to Niall’s house because it is the nearest and I knock on the door over and over again so he knows it is me.
“Zayn, what’s wrong?” he says as he sees me. He can see the tiredness in my eyes and he pulls me into a hug. “Come in. Do you want some food?” he asks.
“No thanks,” I say and I sit myself down on the sofa while Niall makes himself a sandwich.
“Where’s Perrie?” he asks, sitting down on the sofa next to me.
“At home. We’ve been fighting quite a bit lately,” I tell him, looking down.
“How is she on her own?”
“She can walk now,” I say smiling. “But she wants to go back on the tour and I don’t think she is ready.”
“What does the doctor say?”
“He doesn’t think she’s ready either.”
“So why are you fighting?”
“She’s just getting sick of me. It’s like she can’t stand to be even in the same house as me. She is always picking fights and I just don’t understand what is happening to us.”
“Mate,” he says as he rubs my back, “I’m sure she’s just sick of not going out and she is taking it out on you.”
“Well it is my fault,” I say. She has only recently started walking but it has been 2 months now since the injury.
“Do you think you should give her a break for a bit? Maybe now isn’t a bad time to go to America now she can walk and everything,” Niall suggests.
“You might be right but I don’t want to leave her,” I say.
“Zayn come on mate. You’re never going to want to leave her. You’re always going to be over protective, you’re like that with me and the boys. But you’ve got to give her a bit of space.”
“Ok ok, I’ll go tell her. Thanks bro,” I say as I get up and head towards the door.
“See you late mate,” Niall says as I leave his house and shut the door behind me. On the drive back to my house I run through in my head what I’m going to say to Perrie and how I’m going to do it without her picking a fight.
“Perrie,” I call as I enter the house. “Oh my god. Have you been crying?” I say as I rush over to her side.
“Zayn I’m sorry I shouted at you. I’m a terrible girlfriend,” she says as she buries her face in my chest.
“You’re not. It’s okay,” I say, “I was thinking that maybe you need a little break from me. I’m going to go to America with the boys.”
“What? When?” she asks.
“I don’t know, maybe in the next couple of days.”
“You didn’t think to ask me?” she says, stepping away from me and looking up at me in disgust. “You dictate my whole life for me and you don’t even fucking ask me! Is that a joke?”
“This is why I need to go! We’re always fighting and I can’t stand it anymore.”
“Well I can’t stand it either. We’re over,” she says and my heart drops to the ground. I stand back in shock with my mouth wide open at what Perrie has just said.
“Don’t do this Perrie,” I say, reaching out to hold her hand but she pulls away from me.
“Just get out Zayn,” she says and storms upstairs and into our room, slamming the door behind her.
I follow her upstairs and say through the door, “please Perrie. Please just talk to me.”
She doesn’t open the door. all I hear is muffled sobs.
“Perrie, open the door,” I beg and the door is slowly opened. I take her frail body and wrap my arms around her, “please Perrie. I’m sorry, I wont go.”
“No you’re going. We need space and time apart. I need to think things through and so do you,” she says as her tears soak my t-shirt. I grab her face and desperately press my lips on hers but she quickly pushes me away. “No Zayn. Go to America, have fun with the American girls. We need this break,” she says through the tears.
“I don’t need this, I don’t want this Perrie,” I say as the tears start falling down my face.
“I’m going for a walk. Get your stuff and go to Niall’s. I’ll be out of your house by the time you get back from America,” she says and she grabs her coat and walks out of the bedroom and down the stairs. She looks back up at me before she leaves, shutting the door behind her. I sit down, leaning against the wall with my head in my hands. How did I lose her? Why did I lose her?
