t w e n t y - t w o
13:30, 21 December 2020Maybe he did love me. Maybe he still loves me. But if that was true... why would he tell me that he didn't care. He didn't say it like a joke, oh no. He was super serious and he didn't even sound sorry when he said it. But then, he constantly told me that he loved me. And he asked me to move in with him. And he bought me a car.
Half of me was desperate to talk to him and listen to his explanation he'd tried to tell me 4 weeks ago but the other half wanted to go back inside the restaurant and carry on working. I chose the other half and maybe it was fate or maybe it was just a coincidence that while I was sat on a bench outside, 5 famous singers had entered the restaurant.
When I pushed open the restaurant door and walked back to the bar, Peter was drying a wine glass with a white tea towel identical to every other tea towel.
"Lily!" he hissed as soon as I had stepped back inside, "Lily get your sexy bum over here now!"
I walked over to him and leant on the desk, listening carefully to what he was saying.
"Go take the order of the people at table 24. Benny just told me it's a group of famous people," Benny was guy who ran the front desk, "He wouldn't tell me who so you have to go and see and then come back and tell me!"
"Table 24? But that's upstairs," I tried to say but Peter just shoved my notepad right into my boobs, making me groan a small ow, and spun me around so I was facing the large glass stair case that led up to the upstairs where all the posh and rich people ate.
"You'll be fine. Now go!" Peter said a little to loudly and a few heads turned to look at us and I smiled apologetically. I'd only been upstairs twice in my entire 10 months while working at the restaurant, once when I was being given a tour of it by Peter and once when I had to clean all the tables down at the end of an evening.
Peter nodded at me when I looked back around when I was halfway up the stairs and I flipped him off which just made him laugh and get back to drying wine glasses even though they were probably already dry as a bone.
The upstairs floor was more fancier than the downstairs even though the downstairs was already very fancy. In the center was a waterfall of fairy lights that came all the way down to the floor. I'd never seen the fountain on before until that evening and it was so beautiful that I wanted one in my bedroom. The tables were all circles with white table clothes that were the perfect length. The chairs were dark brown that matched the wood of the table leg that you could just see. All the cutlery, glasses, place mats, coasters, napkins, candles and menus were all perfectly placed on each table and we're all exactly the same space apart. The entire layout was flawless.
I heard quiet chatters from the direction of table 24 and made my way over to it while getting my notebook and pen ready.
The 4 men who were sat on the circle table made my eyes go wide and my breath catch in my throat.
"Lily is that you? How are ya?" Louis Tomlinson asked me when I began coughing a little, his accent stronger than ever.
"Yeah, yeah I'm fine. What can I get-" I began but Zayn shouted something loudly from across the table and all the boys looked behind me.
"Niall where are you going?" Zayn's loud voice would stand out in a crowd even if he didn't want it to.
I spun around when I heard Zayn shout Niall's name and saw him walking towards the stairs. The half of my brain that I'd ignored earlier took full control of my body and before I knew it, I was running towards Niall and grabbing his wrist so he didn't go down the stairs.
He turned to look at me like he was waiting for me say something but I couldn't speak because I was already regretting stopping him from leaving and I had no idea why I was doing it.
"I was gonna go," he rubbed his neck with his free hand and looked down, "You told me never to speak to you again so I was just gonna leave to save a load of trouble."
"Well... the food here is really good so..." I drained off when I remembered I was meant to be being mean to him and he looked back up at me.
"I'll have a cheese burger, onion rings and chips. You do serve that right?" he said with a smile that I knew he didn't want to be on his face but it was there anyway.
"Yeah we serve that," I said blankly and wrote it down in my notebook with the pen that was running out.
"I'm gonna go sit back down," Niall said and I followed him to the table to take the orders of everyone else. Zayn got ribs with extra BBQ sauce and chips. Liam got spaghetti and meet balls and when he ordered it he became so excited about what he would soon he eating it scared me a bit. Harry and Louis both got pizzas, Harry just a margarita and Louis a Thai chicken one. They each ordered a beer and when I went to give Peter the order for 5 beers he began asking questions.
"5 of them?! Are you serious? Your waiting on 5 celebrities?" he said as he handed me the 5 beers on a tray along with 5 glasses that they would be able to poor their beers into if they wanted to although people never did.
"Yep," is all I said as I walked away before he could ask even more question, especially who they were. I knew one direction had broken up, Liv had cried for days about it, so I wasn't sure whether I was allowed to tell people that I'd seen them all together out for a meal.
"The chef doesn't have much to cook right now so your meals should be out shortly," I told the 5 boys when I'd given them all their beers.
"Why not sit with us and talk for a bit while we wait for our meals," Harry offered me when I picked up the tray that I'd carried their drinks up on and turned to walk back down stairs.
"Thanks but I'm working," I said quickly. I wanted to sit with them but I forced my body down the stairs and away from the group because I knew if I sat with them I would end up talking to Niall and probably be nice to him.
