A Weakness

09:18, 25 December 2023

As Draco sat pondering his life, Hermione was only pretending to watch the movie. In fact, she was watching him out of the corner of her left eye and was barely paying any attention to what was playing. Unfortunately, even though she wasn't watching the TV, she could still hear it, and at that moment a sad part came on that always made her cry.

Tears inevitably filled her eyes so she casually brought up her hand to hide them from Draco. That was pointless though, because with the tears came a runny nose which was difficult to hide, and she had no choice but to sniff.

Draco turned to her, startled. "Are you okay? Wait, are you crying?" He had never seen Hermione cry, even when he (regrettably) humiliated her at Hogwarts, years before. The woman had nerves of steel.

She kept her hand by her eye and faced forward. "No, what do you mean?"

He leaned toward her and pulled her hand off her face, which revealed red splotches. "Not crying, eh?" He asked, not convinced.

She threw her hands up in defeat. "Alright, I was crying, but it's this dumb movie's fault. I always cry at this part, but I'm always alone so it never matters."

Draco sat in silence, observing her. He felt the sudden urge to comfort her, though he wasn't sure what that was all about. He also didn't know how to comfort, never having learned.

The words came out before he knew what he was saying. "Alright, well at least come over here and rest on my shoulder. You look so lonely all the way over there."

She was surprised at that but did feel lonely on the other side of the couch. Usually, it was just her so she wasn't separated from anyone, but since there was another person there, it felt different. She scooted over to him and rested her head on his shoulder, feeling the warmth radiating from his neck. With her wand, she accioed a blanket over and rested it on top of them so they were warm.
